In a draft that left everyone scratching their heads, the GB Packers (JP) managed to achieve the impossible: a draft grade of F and a projected finish in 13th place. With the 9th pick in the draft order, hopes were high for this team, but alas, they fell short. Their 16-round draft was a rollercoaster of questionable decisions and head-scratching picks. The highlight of their draft was snagging Aaron Jones at 23, beating his ADP of 33. However, this moment of glory was overshadowed by the worst pick of the draft, where they reached for Jordan Love at 9, who had an ADP of 127. Talk about a wild swing and a miss!

If there's one thing the GB Packers (JP) love, it's synergy. And by synergy, we mean drafting eight players from the same team. Yes, you read that right. Eight players from the same team. It's like they're trying to recreate the magic of the '90s Chicago Bulls, but instead, they've created a fantasy football team that's destined for disaster. With two players on bye week 6, they're in for a rough patch mid-season. And let's not forget their projected record of 1-13-1. Ouch. It seems the GB Packers (JP) are determined to make a name for themselves this season, and that name is 'the team that defies all logic and common sense'.

Inside the Draft

Player Outlooks

- Round 1, Pick 9 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 149 - 2022 Rank: 412

Love is an unknown commodity for fantasy football this year. He's had 83 pass attempts during his short time in the league. Love will be taking over an offense that has questions at tight end and wide receiver. It's possible that Christian Watson will be a star, but it's also possible that he's just an outstanding deep threat. At 6-4, 219, Love has demonstrated decent mobility. That could give Love a stable rushing floor while the passing game rounds into form, though a larger sample size of rushing attempts would be nice. Last year, Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst seasons of his career. Whether that was due to decline or the talent that surrounded him is uncertain. Also, Green Bay has been a run-heavy team for the past couple years, and their quarterback pass attempts have been below league average. Drafting Love as a boom-or-bust option makes sense, due to the uncertainty that surrounds him. He also could be a player who gets better as the season moves forward and he gets more experience.

- Round 2, Pick 23 - Bye 13

2023 Rank: 30 - 2022 Rank: 118

Last year, Jones was typically drafted as a top-10 running back. He ended the season with 1,516 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns. That made Jones a very good early pick. So what happened this offseason? He took a $5 million pay cut. The big difference in the offense is that Aaron Rodgers is out and Jordan Love is in at quarterback. Rodgers was excellent when throwing to running backs, though we don't know how Love will be in that capacity. In early drafts, Jones is being selected outside of the top-15 running backs. His stock may be dropping because he's entering his age-28 season. In addition, fantasy managers may not be excited about the direction of the offense with Rodgers gone. Regardless, Jones has averaged over five yards per carry over his career, including a 5.3 mark last year. In addition, he's posted at least 355 receiving yards in the last four years. He had taken on the lead role over AJ Dillon last year, but once Jones was dealing with late-season injury issues, Dillon cut significantly into the workload. Jones may be the best player on the Green Bay offense, and the coaching staff may need to make him the focal point. If they do, Jones would become a great value in fantasy drafts.

- Round 3, Pick 37 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 42 - 2022 Rank: 135

Watson dealt with a nagging injury to start last season and didn't really come on until the second half of the season. He had an incredible stretch of four games between weeks 10 and 13 when he posted 323 yards, 49 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He was still good down the stretch, posting between 46 and 49 yards in each of his last four games, though he didn't score during that span. His speed is difference making, but his route running is still questionable. The drop off from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love could be problematic for him. However, he should be the clear No. 1 receiver, so he should get targeted often. But he's difficult to predict because if he doesn't improve his route running, defenses already understand that he can get over the top, which will allow them to prepare for that. Those who believe he'll figure out the route running, should project him aggressively, but that's not a guarantee to happen. Those who aren't sold on Watson building his versatility may require a more conservative projection than many analysts who are focusing solely on the upside.

- Round 4, Pick 51 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 97 - 2022 Rank: 265

Doubs had a lot of opportunities early in the season when the Packers were aggressively trying to find an answer at receiver to complement Allen Lazard. Doubs impressed in some game, but often looked like the rookie that he was. It didn't help that Aaron Rodgers probably lost confidence in him from time to time. But due to a lack of weapons, Rodgers had to keep going back to him. Doubs then dealt with a high-ankle sprain that cost him time. If Doubs is to take a big second-year leap, it will be with a new quarterback in Jordan Love. If Love struggles, Doubs will as well, though he has an excellent opportunity to be a starting outside receiver across from Christian Watson, with Lazard joining Rodgers in New York. Doubs' season likely will hinge on how quickly Love develops.

- Round 5, Pick 65 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 128 - 2022 Rank: 752

A 2023 second-round draft pick, Reed has a chance to earn a significant role in the Packers' offense this season. The Packers are young and inexperienced at wide receiver with second-year wideouts Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs his main competition for targets. Reed showed versatility in college and should have little trouble earning a spot in the top-three WRs, even if he doesn't over take Watson or Doubs. But the Packers are likely to remain a run-heavy offense, which could limit the WR targers. New quarterback Jordan Love is also a factor. Reed's development could hinge on Love's development.

- Round 6, Pick 79 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 127 - 2022 Rank: 758

The Packers needed a lead TE, so they drafted Musgrave and Tucker Kraft in the second and third rounds of this year's NFL Draft. Of the two, Musgrave is more of a seam stretcher. He needs development in all areas, and he could have significant struggles as a rookie. It's probable he finishes outside the top-24 tight ends, and he'll likely go undrafted in many fantasy leagues. While he'll likely be limited to a dynasty league option in 2023, it's still worth keeping an eye on quarterback Jordan Love's progression and the offensive scheme as a whole to see if Musgrave could eventually work his way up to a fantasy streaming possibility.

- Round 7, Pick 93 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 284 - 2022 Rank: 1030

Longtime Packers kicker Mason Crosby is not under contract and will be 39 years old when the season starts, so Carlson seems in line to be the starting kicker. Green Bay selected Carlson in the sixth round of this year's draft. With the team going through transition as Jordan Love takes over at quarterback, it's uncertain as to what we can expect from the Packers offense. Between Carlson being a late-round pick and the uncertainty surrounding the team, it may be wise to rank Carlson outside the top-15 kickers.

DEF - Round 8, Pick 107 - Bye 6

2023 Rank: 197 - 2022 Rank: 77

Green Bay was in the middle of the pack in points allowed (371) last year. The Packers had playmakers in the secondary that helped them finish fifth in the league with 17 interceptions. But in terms of pass rush, they recorded just 34 sacks, the sixth-fewest in the league. As has been the case the last few years, the Packers project to be a terrible run defense. They don't have a single run defender who is considered a plus option. The pass defense continues to be one of the better ones in the league, though. Not only is the cornerback group strong, led by Jaire Alexander, but safety Rudy Ford as well as the LBs are outstanding. Rashan Gary is easily their best pass rusher, and if Lukas Van Ness is able to pressure consistently, they'd have great bookends. On paper, this should be an average defense, but they're not dominant in any one area. As a result, this will likely be a middling and uninspiring fantasy unit.
