In a draft that left fans scratching their heads, the Seattle Seahawks managed to secure a less-than-stellar D+ draft grade. With the 4th pick in the draft order, they had the opportunity to make some waves, but instead, they made some questionable choices. Their best pick came at 32 with DK Metcalf, who was drafted just slightly ahead of their ADP at 36. However, their worst pick was a head-scratcher, as they selected Geno Smith at 4, a player with an ADP of 117. It seems like the Seahawks were playing a different game altogether, but hey, who needs logic when you can have chaos?

The Seahawks seemed to have a peculiar obsession with a certain team, as they managed to draft a whopping 8 players from the same team. Yes, you heard that right, 8 players from the same team. It's as if they were trying to recreate a mini Seahawks squad within their own roster. Maybe they were hoping for some sort of team synergy, or maybe they just really love the Seahawks. Either way, it's a bold strategy that could either lead to glory or complete disaster. With a projected finish of 5th and a tough schedule ahead, the Seahawks will need all the help they can get. Let's hope their love for their own team pays off, because if not, they might just be flying solo with their regrets.

Inside the Draft

Player Outlooks

- Round 1, Pick 4 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 116 - 2022 Rank: 22

After throwing 34 touchdowns in 45 career games, Smith threw 30 touchdown passes last year. Before throwing for 4,282 yards last year, his best prior season was his 2013 rookie season when he threw for 3,046. He was an incredible success story after being written off as a fantasy option, and he didn't even win the Seahawks starting job until the last game of the preseason. For most of last season, Smith was very consistent. He threw multiple touchdowns in 10 of 11 games between Weeks 3 and 14. However, Smith ended the season slowly. He threw exactly one touchdown pass in three of his last four games while also throwing for 215 or fewer yards in each of his last three games. There's always concern about paying up for a career year in fantasy football, and with Smith's career year coming at age 31, it raises a lot of red flags. However, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's offense requires a strong processor at quarterback, and Smith has always been that. In addition, he has excellent wide receiver weapons along with a good running game. Seattle also addressed their offensive line last season, so that it was no longer a liability. Overall, Smith is definitely in position to succeed with another strong season. It's also possible the stars aligned perfectly and his great prior season may see him regress back to career form. Since he is typically being selected outside the top quarterback options in fantasy drafts, there isn't a lot of risk in selecting him.

- Round 2, Pick 18 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 14 - 2022 Rank: 87

Walker proved to be a very explosive running back in his rookie season. He finished the season with at least 100 yards rushing in each of his last three games and in five of his last 10 contests. On the season, he ended up with 1,215 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns on 255 touches. Although Walker had an outstanding 96th-percentile broken tackle rate, he posted just 54th-percentile yards after contact. He was very good as a receiver by posting a 67th-percentile yards after the catch rate. But Walker has a bit of a boom-or-bust nature to his game. He often will have a number of short runs before breaking off a long strike, but there are plenty of running backs in the past that have lived that way and been successful. However, Seattle drafted Zach Charbonnet in the second-round of this year's draft, which is not good news for Walker. It seems that Walker will enter the season as the lead runner, with Charbonnet having at least a significant change-of-pace role. Charbonnet required too much draft capital to sit on the bench. The situation will be enough of a timeshare to view Walker as a fantasy RB2 option, instead of the RB1 scenario he was shaping up to be before the Draft.

- Round 3, Pick 32 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 37 - 2022 Rank: 161

In the current iteration of the Seahawks offense, Metcalf isn't quite the explosive downfield threat that he was earlier in his career. Last year, he saw a career low 11.6 yards per reception while posting just a 10th-percentile yardage after the catch rate. After being targeted 129 times in each of the two prior seasons, Metcalf was targeted 141 times last year leading to a career high 90 catches. To this point, 2020 is looking like his career year, when he had 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. As long as the team continues to roll with Geno Smith as quarterback, it's unlikely that this becomes a team that consistently attacks downfield, which will limit Metcalf's upside. but his target volume should continue to help him be a strong weekly fantasy option. Based on volume and talent, he should remain in the top-15 conversation at wide receiver.

- Round 4, Pick 46 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 57 - 2022 Rank: 137

Lockett has been one of the most consistent performers in the NFL over the last four years. During that time, he's posted between 1,033 and 1,175 yards. He's also scored between 8-10 touchdowns in five straight years. His targets have also been consistent, as he has seen between 107 and 117 in three of the last four years. Last year, he had an excellent weekly scoring floor. He posted at least 60 yards in 10 games. He's going into his age 31 season, so decline is likely on the horizon, but from what we've seen, he may likely have a gradual descent opposed to a complete loss of skills. Lockett will likely be a value in drafts like he was last year, and betting on his consistency over many years seems like a safe bet.

- Round 5, Pick 60 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 129 - 2022 Rank: 745

Smith-Njigba was selected with the 20th pick in this year's draft, profiling as a difference-making slot receiver. Although his 40 time was unimpressive, he showed excellent agility at the NFL Combine, which is what great slot receivers need, with elite marks in the three-cone drill (6.57 seconds) and short shuttle (3.93). His biggest roadblock to fantasy relevance is his landing spot. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will take the majority of WR targets on a team that wants to dominate on the ground. Metcalf is the No. 1 receiver and Lockett, even in his 30s, is still playing at a high level. Smith-Njigba gives Seattle the third wide receiver it has lacked in recent years and could make an immediate impact in three-receiver sets.

- Round 6, Pick 74 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 270 - 2022 Rank: 232

Although he's going into his age-25 season, things are not looking up for Fant. Despite seemingly having more opportunity last year in Seattle than he did in Denver, he posted career lows in yardage, targets and yards per reception. Although he's a great athlete, Fant was in the 40th percentile in yardage after the catch. To make matters worse, Seattle moved Colby Parkinson ahead of Fant as a receiver in the second half of the season. It seems unlikely that things will turn around for Fant anytime soon, and he may not be worth a draft pick in many fantasy leagues.

- Round 7, Pick 88 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 236 - 2022 Rank: 5

After averaging 21 made field goals between 2019-2021, the Seahawks offense finally had a successful year. As a result, Myers connected on 34 field goals, which was the most he has had in any of his eight seasons. Although he's had a couple down years from an accuracy standpoint, Myers has made at least 91.7 percent of his field goals in three of the last five years. He just signed a four-year contract, so he has job security. And if the Seahawks continue their positive direction on offense, he should be a top-eight kicking option.

DEF - Round 8, Pick 102 - Bye 5

2023 Rank: 263 - 2022 Rank: 62

The Seahawks were in the top half of the NFL with 45 sacks (ninth) and 14 interceptions (14th). However, they allowed 401 points, which was the seventh-most in the league.Adding back Bobby Wagner this offseason was a huge boost to what was a terrible run defense, though fellow linebacker Jordyn Brooks (knee) may not be ready for the season. Overall, the Seahawks should be better against the run. After drafting Devon Witherspoon with the fifth pick in the draft to go along with Tariq Woolen, Seattle may have two excellent cornerbacks. That would also allow them to dedicate more resources to stop the run. The pass rush is nothing special, so they'll need their corners to play well. They also have three safeties who are excellent in coverage. This is a defense on the rise, and they can emerge as a top-half defense. They should be able to improve their points against from last year while maintaining similar levels of sacks and interceptions.
