    • Could hold out of OTAs
Heyward (groin) plans to skip Steelers OTAs unless he receives a contract extension, Joe Rutter of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Heyward is on track to earn $16 million in 2024, but he has no such assurances for after the upcoming season. He's coming off a down year in which he recorded just 2.0 sacks in 11 games, but he'll still probably be a plus starter for Pittsburgh in 2024 if he doesn't continue to hold out for a new contract. • Cam Heyward not planning to attend Steelers OTAs
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Steelers DE Cameron Heyward does not plan to attend OTAs while seeking a contract extension.

Advice: Heyward has not attended voluntary offseason workouts and looks to sit out OTAs as he awaits a contract extension. The six-time Pro Bowler is entering the final season of a four-year, $65 million contract. He has been with the Steelers since getting drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Heyward just turned 35 and is a three-time first-team All-Pro, though his 2023 season was plagued by injury. He appeared in 11 games, tallying two sacks and winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his off-the-field work. Fowler notes that Heyward has never missed an offseason program. The Steelers will work to get an extension done with a mainstay of their defense for over the last decade. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:54 pm

    • On pace with recovery
Elliss (shoulder) should be fully recovered from shoulder surgery by training camp, Mike Klis of 9News reports.

Advice: Elliss underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum six months ago, but he still isn't quite 100 percent. However, the Broncos' 2024 third-round selection was able to take part in walkthroughs and individual portions of the team's recent rookie minicamp. The son of former NFL player Luther Elliss, Jonah projects to be a pass-rush specialist after recording 12 sacks in just 10 games at Utah last season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:49 pm

    • Chiefs release DT Matt Dickerson, again
Chiefs released DT Matt Dickerson and re-signed LB Cole Christiansen.

Advice: Dickerson has appeared in 36 games during his five-year NFL career. The Chiefs released Dickerson last August to make room for waiver claims but he ultimately re-signed with the team, appearing in 12 contests with the team. We could see a similar outcome unfold this time around, although nothing is certain this early in the league year. Kansas City re-signed LB Cole Christiansen in a corresponding move. • Agrees to terms with Carolina
The Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Smith bounced back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of his three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive, 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role in the Panthers defense as the offseason advances. Rotowire.com May 13, 1:55 pm
