Player Notes

  • Panthers select DE, moving him to fullback
Panthers selected West Georgia DE/FB Alexander Armah with the No. 192 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Advice: A two-way player, Armah (6'2/235) was announced as a fullback. Primarily a tight end on offense in the Gulf South Conference, Armah will be making one of the biggest adjustments of any player in the draft. He's a project who will probably begin his NFL career on the practice squad. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:17 pm

  • Jets land RB Elijah McGuire with pick No. 188
Jets selected Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire with the No. 188 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Advice: McGuire (5’10/214) graduated as the Ragin Cajuns’ all-time leader in all-purpose yards (5,968) and TDs (52), posting a career 711-4,312-42 (6.1 YPC) rushing line with 129-1,383-10 (10.7 YPR) receiving. Despite his prolific compilation stats, McGuire’s yards-per-carry average descended every year in college (8.4 > 7.6 > 5.0 > 4.9), and he tested as a 24th-percentile athlete before the draft, running well (4.53) in Indy but flunking the three-cone drill (7.26). Still, McGuire’s pass-catching resume, reliable ball security, and compact build give him some appeal as a potential committee back. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:03 pm

  • Packers select UTEP RB Aaron Jones
Packers selected UTEP RB Aaron Jones with the No. 182 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Advice: Jones (5’10/208) turned pro as a redshirt junior after breaking UTEP’s all-time rushing record (4,114) in only three seasons, finishing his career with 40 all-purpose touchdowns, a 6.25 yards-per-carry average, and 71 receptions. Jones’ stock elevated at the Combine, posting top-two SPARQ results among running backs with a 4.56 forty, springy vertical (37 ˝") and broad (10’7") jumps, and an impressive 6.82 three-cone time. On tape, Jones is a determined inside runner with plus vision, darting quickness, and serious big-play ability. In 2016, Jones led the nation in touchdown runs that began outside the red zone (12), including nine TD runs of 40-plus yards. While probably not an NFL workhorse, Jones is one of this year’s top sleeper running backs. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 12:46 pm

  • T.J. Logan lands with Cardinals at No. 179
Cardinals selected UNC RB T.J. Logan with the No. 179 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Advice: Logan (5’9/196) was a committee back and special teams ace all four years at UNC, tallying a career 398-2,165-19 (5.4 YPC) rushing line with 76 receptions and a 27.2-yard kickoff return average with five returned to the house. PFF College charted Logan with only one dropped pass over his final three seasons. Logan confirmed his long speed in Indy with a 4.37 forty, although the rest of his workouts were sub-par. A change-up back with return value, Logan projects as a low-ceiling niche player, albeit a useful one. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 12:39 pm

  • Niners select Trent Taylor with pick No. 177
49ers selected Louisiana Tech WR Trent Taylor with the No. 177 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Advice: Taylor (5’8/181) complemented Carlos Henderson at slot receiver in the Bulldogs’ prolific passing game, leading the nation in receiving yards as a senior with a 136-1,803-12 (13.3 YPR) stat line and finishing his career with an absurd 327 receptions. Quicker than fast, Taylor’s agility showed up at the Combine in his three-cone (6.74) and short-shuttle (4.01) times. Taylor is a diminutive, slot-only prospect with tiny arms (28 Ľ") and 4.63 speed, but he is sure handed with run-after-catch creativity and has a chance to become a Cole Beasley- or Danny Amendola-type player in the pros.
