    • Maye and Polk already building practice chemistry
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports Patriots rookies Drake Maye and Ja’Lynn Polk “made it a habit over the past four weeks to take extra repetitions after practice and were usually the last players to leave the field.”

Advice: “I think it’s important,” Maye said. “It’s picking up little things every day.” This kind of story is often an offseason practice contrivance, but it’s easy to spot the significance in this instance. Maye is the Patriots’ new franchise player and Polk sits atop a ludicrously thin receiver depth chart. Any success they might have on offense this season is going to depend in large part on this connection. It’s a great sign they are already working overtime to establish it.

    • Saints restructure Taysom Hill’s contract
      Saints restructured Taysom Hill’s contract.

Advice: According to Saints beat writer Nick Underhill, the Saints converted Hill’s base salary into a signing bonus to take his cap number from $15.7 million to $6.8 million. The conversion means Hill is now , but they’ll almost certainly find a way to get out of that when the time comes. The league’s ultimate gadget player totaled 692 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns last season and will be 34 before the start of next season. He remains a potential cheat code in leagues where fantasy managers can roster him as a tight end but has no upside as a quarterback at this time. Rotoworld Thursday, 11:24 am

    • Restructures contract
Hill agreed to restructure his contract Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: It's a simple restructure, converting 2024 base salary into a signing bonus to push some of his cap hit from the current season into future years. Early reports from training camp suggested new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was giving Hill more chances as a running back or fullback, but Hill could now see a lot of snaps at tight end following Thursday's announcement that Juwan Johnson will need foot surgery. The Saints hope Johnson will be ready by Week 1, but it sounds like that's far from a sure thing. Either way, it may be tough to get a good read on Hill's role under a new coordinator until the season is actually underway. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:42 am

    • Will head to camp as QB1
Darnold will be the first-team quarterback when Minnesota begins training camp in late July, ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert reports.

Advice: Darnold took all the first-team reps at June minicamp and reportedly looked sharper than 10th overall draft pick J.J. McCarthy. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Darnold will remain the top QB for the start of training camp, but O'Connell cautioned that it's one of the many positions at which he anticipates competition later this summer. • Jets Robert Saleh downplays Aaron Rodgers’ absence
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Robert Saleh said Aaron Rodgers’ absence is “more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.”

Advice: Saleh prefaced the assurance by saying he and Rodgers “are on the exact same page” and, “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates.” Jets cornerback D.J. Reed Jr. validated Saleh’s statement, adding, “That’s our quarterback. If [Rodgers’ prior commitment] is important to him, it’s important to us. It’s really not a big deal.” Rodgers is skipping the team’s full mandatory minicamp, risking more than $100,000 in fines. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:11 pm

    • O’Connell says Darnold is QB1 heading into camp
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Sam Darnold is the team’s QB1 heading into training camp.

Advice: Darnold is the veteran of Minnesota’s quarterback room and has been the first-string quarterback throughout the offseason program, so O’Connell’s comments should come as no surprise. They don’t guarantee Darnold the starting job for Week 1 either. O’Connell also mentioned wanting to create a competitive environment for his quarterbacks in training camp. Redraft fantasy managers can ignore this quarterback room for now as it’s safe to assume we will see Darnold and first-round rookie J.J. McCarthy at some point this year. Best ball drafters will want to pair McCarthy with at least one locked-in starter if they want to take him as a late-round quarterback. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:59 pm

    • Aaron Rodgers decides to skip all of Jets minicamp
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports Aaron Rodgers will miss all of Jets minicamp.

Advice: Russini said Rodgers — who last year decried off-the-field distractions for his Jets team — “prefers to be somewhere else” while his teammates prepare for a make-or-break 2024 season. Rodgers’ minicamp absence is unexcused, and head coach Robert Saleh seemed less than pleased with his quarterback’s decision during a Tuesday press conference. Rodgers attended the team’s OTAs this spring and appeared to be recovered from his 2023 Achilles tear. The football-watching public — and Jets players — patiently wait to hear exactly why Rodgers decided to ditch his teammates during June’s practices. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:52 am

    • Remains limited
Thompson-Robinson (hip) participated in 7-on-7 drills Tuesday, but he is still limited in practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Thompson-Robinson is still not fully cleared from a hip subluxation suffered during the Browns' Week 15 win over the Texans. There was hope he'd be cleared in time for mandatory minicamp, which began Monday, but it does appear the UCLA product is at least making progress in his recovery. DTR is expected to compete with Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley for the top backup role behind Deshaun Watson (shoulder). Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:45 pm

    • Plans to be ready for training camp
Jones (knee) isn't participating in 11-on-11 drills during June minicamp but said Tuesday that he expects to be ready for the first day of training camp, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Jones said his right knee feels "really good" coming off ACL surgery, and that his cuts now feel cleaner than they did earlier this spring. Back in OTAs, Jones managed to shed his knee brace and take part in some 7-on-7 drills, so by all indications his progress has been encouraging. The Giants remain committed to the 2019 first-round pick as their starting quarterback, with Drew Lock positioned in a clear backup role, but this could well be a make-or-break season for Jones.
