• Lands with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Gathings to a one-year contract Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Advice: Gathings spent time on the Chiefs' practice squad last season and signed a reserve/future deal with Kansas City in February before being cut May 4. The 23-year-old out of Middle Tennessee joins a deep Pittsburgh tight-end corps that is headed by Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward, though that group was relatively unproductive last season. • Kittle (core-muscle) expects to be ready for camp
George Kittle said he underwent core-muscle surgery in the offseason and expects to return to practice by training camp.

Advice: Kittle told reporters he suffered the injury around Week 9 or 10 and played through it for the remainder of the season. He has been out of commission for OTAs but wasn’t concerned about his availability for camp, saying his recovery is on schedule. Kittle topped 1,000 yards for the third time in his career and caught 65 passes despite the injury. He didn’t miss any games outside of the rest week all San Francisco starters got in Week 18. Though his production remains streaky, Kittle showed no signs of slowing in 2023 and remains in the middle of the TE1 pack. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

  • Remains on track for training camp
Kittle (groin) has set a goal to be ready for training camp following core muscle surgery this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Kittle stated he played through the injury for about 10 weeks last season, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. Although he was hurting, the two-time All-Pro still managed to accumulate 65 receptions (on 90 targets) for 1,020 yards and six scores. Even if the 49ers opt to err on the side of caution with Kittle when training camp approaches, it would not impact his status as one of the top fantasy options at tight end. • Jauan Jennings signs two-year deal with 49ers
    49ers re-signed WR Jauan Jennings to a two-year contract.

Advice: The 49ers originally tendered Jennings, a restricted free agent this offseason, at the second-round level. Jennings chose not to sign the tender and managed to get the two-year deal instead. As Schefter notes, the deal functions as a one-year extension on top of the tender he was offered. It’s worth up to $15.4 million with $10.5 million guaranteed. Jennings has been the team’s WR3 for most of his career. He didn’t see the ball much in 2023, only catching 19 passes for 265 yards and a single touchdown. Jennings did, however, catch and throw for a touchdown in the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss. With first-round rookie Ricky Pearsall now in the mix, there isn’t much room for Jennings’ role to grow, but he will be a valuable depth piece for Kyle Shanahan over the next two seasons. • Inks two-year deal
Jennings and the 49ers have come to terms on a two-year deal worth up to $15.4 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: The Niners gave Jennings a second-round restricted free agent tender in March. Given that it was unlikely any team would give up a pick that early for the right to pay Jennings a considerable contract, a trade was the only other option. Both parties were able to avoid that situation with this new deal, which is akin to a one-year extension that keeps him with San Francisco through the 2025 season. This means the pass catcher will be back to fill the No. 3 wide receiver option behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm

  • Dealing with tightness
Legette missed practice Wednesday, with coach Dave Canales noting afterward that the rookie "looked tight" the day before, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It sounds like the 32nd overall pick is dealing with a minor muscular injury in his lower body. Assuming he doesn't miss too much time, Legette is in a good position to earn rookie-year snaps, joining a Carolina offense that's badly in need of a downfield target to complement veteran possession receivers Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson. The Panthers didn't get much from 2023 second-round pick Jonathan Mingo last season, but they went back to the well for a physically similar player this April, hoping Legette's 4.39 speed in a 223-pound frame will translate to the NFL in a hurry. • Exits practice early
Corley left Wednesday's practice early with an undisclosed injury and returned without a helmet, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.

Advice: Hughes notes that Corley walked with a limp after the incident, giving another hint that the rookie won't return to practice Wednesday. It doesn't sound especially serious, as a player typically would stay inside rather than joining his teammates to watch the rest of practice if there were concern about a major injury. With Mike Williams (ACL) unavailable for offseason practices, the Jets seem to have a wide-open depth chart at WR behind No. 1 Garrett Wilson. Coming in as a third-round pick, Corley should get some first-team reps and may eventually win a role as the team's No. 3 receiver behind Wilson and Williams. Jets QB Aaron Rodgers apparently is a fan, having recently told reporters that Corley was his favorite wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Rotowire.com Today, 9:28 am

  • No timeline for practice return
Coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that he doesn't have a timeline for Williams (knee) returning to practice, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.

Advice: Williams has been at the Jets' team facility for their offseason program, mostly working indoors with the training staff. Reporters spotted him on a side field last week, but it sounds like the 29-year-old won't practice with teammates any earlier than training camp. Williams profiles as the Jets' No. 2 receiver once he makes it back from the left ACL tear he suffered Week 3 last season with the Chargers. His one-year, $10 million contract reportedly includes $8.3 million guaranteed, with an additional $5 million available via incentives, per Albert Breer of SI.com. Rotowire.com Today, 8:10 am

  • Gets cut loose
Harris (undisclosed) has been waived from IR with an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: Harris reverted to IR on Wednesday after clearing waivers. Instead of being forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign, he'll now have the chance to find a new opportunity once he can prove himself healthy. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:30 pm
