    • Kittle (core-muscle) expects to be ready for camp
George Kittle said he underwent core-muscle surgery in the offseason and expects to return to practice by training camp.

Advice: Kittle told reporters he played through the injury around Week 9 or 10 and played through it for the remainder of the season. He has been out of commission for OTAs but wasn’t concerned about his availability for camp, saying his recovery is on schedule. Kittle topped 1,000 yards for the third time in his career and caught 65 passes despite the injury. He didn’t miss any games outside of the rest week all San Francisco starters got in Week 18. Though his production remains streaky, Kittle showed no signs of slowing in 2023 and remains in the middle of the TE1 pack. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

    • Remains on track for training camp
Kittle (groin) has set a goal to be ready for training camp following core muscle surgery this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Kittle stated he played through the injury for about 10 weeks last season, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. Although he was hurting, the two-time All-Pro still managed to accumulate 65 receptions on 90 targets for 1,020 yards and six scores. Even if the 49ers opt to err on the side of caution with Kittle when training camp approaches, it would not impact his status as one of the top fantasy options at tight end. • Jauan Jennings signs two-year deal with 49ers
      49ers re-signed WR Jauan Jennings to a two-year contract.

Advice: The 49ers originally tendered Jennings, a restricted free agent this offseason, at the second-round level. Jennings chose not to sign the tender and managed to get the two-year deal instead. As Schefter notes, the deal functions as a one-year extension on top of the tender he was offered. It’s worth up to $15.4 million with $10.5 million guaranteed. Jennings has been the team’s WR3 for most of his career. He didn’t see the ball much in 2023, only catching 19 passes for 265 yards and a single touchdown. Jennings did, however, catch and throw for a touchdown in the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss. With first-round rookie Ricky Pearsall now in the mix, there isn’t much room for Jennings’ role to grow, but he will be a valuable depth piece for Kyle Shanahan over the next two seasons. • Inks two-year deal
Jennings and the 49ers have come to terms on a two-year deal worth up to $15.4 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: The Niners gave Jennings a second-round restricted free agent tender in March. Given that it was unlikely any team would give up a pick that early for the right to pay Jennings a considerable contract, a trade was the only other option. Both parties were able to avoid that situation with this new deal, which is akin to a one-year extension that keeps him with San Francisco through the 2025 season. This means the pass catcher will be back to fill the No. 3 wide receiver option behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm

    • Returns to limited practice
Jacobs (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.

Advice: Jacobs returned for individual drills but then mostly sat out the team period. He did, however, take at least one carry in full-team drills, and appears to have made it through the day without any setbacks. The hamstring injury shouldn't have much impact on Jacobs as he prepares to lead a Green Bay backfield that also has AJ Dillon and third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd on hand. • LaFleur hopeful Jacobs goes full speed next week
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he is hopeful Josh Jacobs (hamstring) is able to practice when the team goes full speed next week.

Advice: Jacobs missed the first week of OTAs with a hamstring issue but was back for individual drills this week. He was seen cutting and running during individual work and looked perfectly healthy. His light workload to start OTAs is almost certainly a precaution and nothing more. Assuming Jacobs is a full go in practice next week, the hamstring issue will be a non-story by training camp. Projected to easily lead an ascending Green Bay offense in carries, Jacobs is rightfully being drafted as a low-end RB1 to start the summer. Rotoworld Today, 11:53 am

    • Could spell Etienne more often
Coach Doug Pederson said last week that he'd like Bigsby to get more playing time to "take some of the pounding off of Travis [Etienne]," Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Advice: Jaguars brass made similar comments last offseason after drafting Bigsby in the third round, but he had just three games all season with more than three carries and none with more than 17 snaps. A pair of lost fumbles on his first 24 touches didn't help, and the Jags eventually preferred D'Ernest Johnson as the running back to give Etienne occasional breathers. While Johnson is back with the team this year, Bigsby's combination of draft capital, college production (2,903 rushing yards) and size (6-0, 213) should allow him another shot to win the No. 2 RB role. Whether the Jaguars actually end up trusting him enough to take a significant chunk out of Etienne's workload is another question. Rotowire.com Today, 11:36 am

    • Taking snaps as FB/RB
Hill has taken snaps as a running back, fullback and tight end during OTAs rather than getting direct snaps as a dual-threat QB, Matthew Paras of The Advocate reports.

Advice: While Hill presumably will take direct snaps at some point, early signs suggest new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak prefers to use his versatile weapon as more of a hybrid TE/RB/FB/H-back. Former Saints coordinator Pete Carmichael rarely put Hill in the backfield unless he was taking the snap, instead using him as either a power-formation QB or spread-formation TE. Hill scored between five and nine touchdowns each of the past five seasons, not including passing TDs, with last year's 692 yards from scrimmage representing a new career high (besting his 652 from the year prior). His occasional outbursts, often fueled by red-zone work, have made Hill rather useful in leagues where he has TE eligibility and the scoring is non-PPR and/or best ball. His lack of receptions compared to other TEs has made him far less valuable in PPR formats, especially those that set lineups weekly, and that'll probably continue under Kubiak even if Hill's role somewhat changes for his age-34 season. Many fantasy players will be less interested in Hill himself and more interested in how his role impacts the TD projections for QB Derek Carr, RB Alvin Kamara, TE Juwan Johnson, etc. Rotowire.com Today, 11:13 am

    • Dealing with tightness
Legette missed practice Wednesday, with coach Dave Canales noting afterward that the rookie "looked tight" the day before, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It sounds like the 32nd overall pick is dealing with a minor muscular injury in his lower body. Assuming he doesn't miss too much time, Legette is in a good position to earn rookie-year snaps, joining a Carolina offense that's badly in need of a downfield target to complement veteran possession receivers Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson. The Panthers didn't get much from 2023 second-round pick Jonathan Mingo last season, but they went back to the well for a physically similar player this April, hoping Legette's 4.39 speed in a 223-pound frame will translate to the NFL in a hurry.
