    • Waived by Giants
Brightwell (hamstring) was waived/injured by the Giants on Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Advice: Brightwell ended the 2023 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and has yet to participate in the offseason program. He has rushed 41 times for 164 yards and a touchdown and has caught 11 passes for 92 yards through 37 games with the Giants. Brightwell will need to make an impact on special teams wherever he lands next. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

    • Giants part ways with Gary Brightwell
      Giants released RB Gary Brightwell.

Advice: Brightwell was released with a waived/injured designation. The three-year pro has contributed primarily on special teams and has just 52 offensive touches to his name. Brightwell was a sixth-round pick of the Giants in 2021 and should have a chance to catch on with another team in training camp if healthy. In addition to the release of Brightwell, the Giants also signed safety Elijah Riley, who has spent the last two seasons with the Steelers in a backup role. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

    • Waived due to undisclosed injury
Stepp was waived-injured by the Jets on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: Stepp was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent May 13, but he's dealing with an undisclosed injury. If the running back clears waivers, he'll revert to IR. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:19 pm

    • Returns to limited practice
Jacobs (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.

Advice: Jacobs returned for individual drills but then mostly sat out the team period. He did, however, take at least one carry in full-team drills and appears to have made it through the day without any setbacks. The hamstring injury shouldn't have much impact on Jacobs as he prepares to lead a Green Bay backfield that also has AJ Dillon and rookie third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd on hand. • LaFleur hopeful Jacobs goes full speed next week
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he is hopeful Josh Jacobs (hamstring) is able to practice when the team goes full speed next week.

Advice: Jacobs missed the first week of OTAs with a hamstring issue but was back for individual drills this week. He was seen cutting and running during individual work and looked perfectly healthy. His light workload to start OTAs is almost certainly a precaution and nothing more. Assuming Jacobs is a full go in practice next week, the hamstring issue will be a non-story by training camp. Projected to easily lead an ascending Green Bay offense in carries, Jacobs is rightfully being drafted as a low-end RB1 to start the summer. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:53 am

    • Could spell Etienne more often
Coach Doug Pederson said last week that he'd like Bigsby to get more playing time to "take some of the pounding off of Travis [Etienne]," Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Advice: Jaguars brass made similar comments last offseason after drafting Bigsby in the third round, but he had just three games all season with more than three carries and none with more than 17 snaps. A pair of lost fumbles on his first 24 touches didn't help, and the Jags eventually preferred D'Ernest Johnson as the running back to give Etienne occasional breathers. While Johnson is back with the team this year, Bigsby's combination of draft capital, college production (2,903 rushing yards) and size (6-foot, 213) should allow him another shot to win the No. 2 RB role. Whether the Jaguars actually end up trusting him enough to take a significant chunk out of Etienne's workload is another question. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:36 am

    • Returns healthy for OTAs
McLaughlin (head) has been participating in OTAs, the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Advice: McLaughlin played all 17 games for the Broncos in 2023 after going undrafted last spring, averaging 5.4 yards on 76 carries and 5.2 yards on 31 receptions. He seems to be healthy after suffering a head injury Week 18, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll have a role in Denver's crowded backfield. The team still has Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine under contract and recently brought in fifth-round pick Audric Estime and UDFA Blake Watson. Listed at 5-foot-7, 187 pounds, McLaughlin is the smallest of the bunch, though perhaps also the quickest. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:47 am

    • Potential cap casualty
Perine is competing for a role in Denver's backfield but could end up being a cap casualty if other running backs step up, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Perine has a non-guaranteed $3 million salary for the second season of his two-year contract. That's a reasonable number for someone who offers good pass protection and reliable hands while also playing special teams, but the Broncos could nonetheless cut/trade Perine if they feel comfortable with Jaleel McLaughlin, Blake Watson or Tyler Badie as a passing-down specialist. None of those guys can match Perine for size, blocking or experience, but they'd probably all have him beat on speed and quickness. Meanwhile, Javonte Williams and fifth-round pick Audric Estime are more likely to get playing time on early downs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:53 am

    • Seemingly has minor injury
Hall is working in the rehab area during practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: While nothing has been reported so far this offseason, Hall's presence with the rehab group suggests he picked up some kind of minor injury during a previous OTA or workout. Any absence(s) from team drills could free up first-team reps for Israel Abanikanda, Braelon Allen or Isaiah Davis, with recent signing Tarik Cohen potentially an option for third downs and two-minute drills.
