  • Exits practice with shoulder injury
Smith-Njigba left Wednesday's practice early with a shoulder injury that coach Mike Macdonald doesn't consider serious, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Macdonald canceled the last day of minicamp (Thursday) to reward his players for a good offseason, so Smith-Njigba's next opportunity to practice will be at the start of training camp in late July. It sounds like the Seahawks expect him to be healthy before then, but we may not have confirmation for a while with players and teams going their separate ways during the league's summer break. • Will head to camp as QB1
Darnold will be the first-team quarterback when Minnesota begins training camp in late July, ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert reports.

Advice: Darnold took all the first-team reps at June minicamp and reportedly looked sharper than 10th overall draft pick J.J. McCarthy. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Darnold will remain the top QB for the start of training camp, but O'Connell cautioned that it's one of the many positions at which he anticipates competition later this summer. • Lamar to have more pre-snap responsibility in 2024
The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec says Lamar Jackson is going to have “even more responsibility in the team’s pre-snap operation” this season.

Advice: In his article, Zrebiec writes, “At Wednesday’s minicamp practice, Jackson was challenged throughout by an aggressive defense to change routes, run schemes and protections at the line of scrimmage.” Jackson excelled in his first season under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, winning his second MVP in five years while throwing for a career-high 3,678 yards along with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Now, with a firm grasp of the offense, it sounds like the team is planning to give him more control at the line of scrimmage, which could bode well for his fantasy outlook this season as he looks to make the most of what he’s seeing on the field pre-snap. Jackson, 27, will continue to have overall QB1 upside as long as he continues to destroy opposing defenses on the ground. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:22 am

  • Commanders trying two-back looks in minicamp
Washington Post’s Sam Fortier reports Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury is using two-back sets in minicamp.

Advice: Kingsbury seems to be experimenting with using Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler in two-back sets out of the backfield. Both backs have different builds and skillsets and can be used in complementary ways. Robinson profiles more as the downhill runner while Ekeler is the pass-catcher. As it stands, Robinson is likely to be the lead back over Ekeler. If Kingsbury breaks out the two-back sets during the season, both backs will be on the field and have utility as pass-catchers for rookie Jayden Daniels. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:03 pm

  • Jets Robert Saleh downplays Aaron Rodgers’ absence
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Robert Saleh said Aaron Rodgers’ absence is “more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.”

Advice: Saleh prefaced the assurance by saying he and Rodgers “are on the exact same page” and, “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates.” Jets cornerback D.J. Reed Jr. validated Saleh’s statement, adding, “That’s our quarterback. If [Rodgers’ prior commitment] is important to him, it’s important to us. It’s really not a big deal.” Rodgers is skipping the team’s full mandatory minicamp, risking more than $100,000 in fines. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:11 pm

  • Joining Jacksonville
The Jaguars signed Trammell on Wednesday.

Advice: The fourth-year wide receiver out of Rice spent the last three seasons with the Rams and Falcons, but he has now found a new home in Jacksonville. Trammell saw the most action of his career in 2023, when he tallied 183 punt-return yards and 101 kick-return yards. He's expected to compete for a depth role at receiver as well as a return gig with the Jaguars this offseason. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:03 pm

  • Past Achilles injury
Rogers (Achilles) was spotted on the field last week participating during the Commanders' OTAs, Bryan Manning of USA Today reports.

Advice: Rogers missed the entire 2023 campaign due to a torn Achilles' tendon, but he looks to be healthy again and ready to compete for a roster spot heading into the 2024 season. The 26-year-old appeared in 11 games in 2022, catching five of his six targets for 64 yards while playing 375 total snaps (158 on offense). Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:08 pm

  • Feels faster than ever
Robinson said Wednesday he's measured new career-high GPS speeds in practice and feels a "night-and-day" difference physically compared to last offseason, when he was rehabbing a serious knee injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Advice: Robinson had his 2022 rookie season cut short due to an ACL tear, and while he returned to play 15 regular-season games in 2023 en route to a 60-525-1 receiving line, it's reasonable to believe that his knee was still less than 100 percent. A truly healthy offseason should pave the road to Robinson taking a step forward Year 3, especially with the addition of rookie first-rounder Malik Nabers to attract more attention from opposing defenses. Still, questions remain about the passing game's overall effectiveness, especially with starting quarterback Daniel Jones (knee) now recovering from an ACL tear of his own. Darius Slayton (undisclosed) is also expected to start in three-wideout sets, with Jalin Hyatt, Allen Robinson Isaiah Hodgins and Isaiah McKenzie competing for depth reps. • Finishes up minicamp strong
Boutte turned in a strong effort during Wednesday's mandatory minicamp session, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.

Advice: On the last day of minicamp practice prior to the Patriots' summer break, Boutte logged a team-high five catches during team drills, which Lazar notes included a sequence in which the 2023 sixth-round pick reeled in three consecutive scores. As the coming season approaches, Boutte will have to compete with the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster, K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton and Jalen Reagor for slotting in a wideout corps that also includes Kendrick Bourne (knee) -- who is recovering from an ACL tear -- as well as likely roster locks in the youthful trio of DeMario Douglas, Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker. Additionally, it's possible that Boutte faces NFL discipline stemming from his January arrest and subsequent charges of computer fraud and gaming prohibited for persons under 21, which occurred during his time in college at LSU.
