  • Undergoes knee scope
Estime underwent a small scope on his knee last week, but he is expected to be ready for training camp, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Advice: Estime is expected to rehab his knee, so he will not be present at OTAs or mandatory minicamp in June. At 5-foot-11, 221 pounds, the Broncos' fifth round pick of this year's draft is projected to bring a physical style to the running back room. Assuming his health is back up to par by training camp, he will presumably be competing with the likes of Samaje Perine, Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie and Blake Watson for a depth role behind Javonte Williams in this year's backfield. • Eric Gray mixing in with the first-team offense
The New York Daily New Sports’ Pat Leonard said "[Eric] Gray got a lot of run” with the first-team offense at Thursday’s OTAs.

Advice: Presumed No. 1 RB Devin Singletary has been present at OTAs but Gray has also had a chance to work with the first-team offense. The Athletic’s Dan Duggan previously reported Gray has “a clear path... to have a bigger role” this year and Leonard’s report seems to affirm the opportunity. Gray played limited snaps as a 2023 rookie, delivering underwhelming rushing results (2.8 yards per rushing attempt) but played well in the passing game, catching six-of-seven passes and winning all three pass-protection repetitions. • Dealing with calf strain
Beck missed Thursday's practice because of a calf strain, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: This is expected to be a short-term issue for Beck. The 28-year-old fullback is looking to hold off Troy Hairston (back) for the starting gig in 2024. Through 15 games last season, Beck rushed five times for three yards and a score and caught 11 of 13 targets for 55 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded 94 yards and a touchdown as a kick returner. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:01 am

  • Returns to practice
Odunze (hamstring) returned to practice Thursday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Odunze was featured in a video from practice catching a contested pass from rookie QB Caleb Williams. With the hamstring tightness behind him, the No. 9 overall pick will continue to build chemistry with Williams while working as the No. 3 receiver for now behind DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. • Could see more opportunities
In his second season as a pro, Washington believes that there's a "strong possibility" he can emerge as more of a receiving threat, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: In 17 regular-season contests as a rookie last season, Washington caught just seven of his 10 targets for 61 yards, but with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith on board, the 2023 third-rounder is a candidate to see more pass-catching opportunities in what figures to be a more tight-end friendly offense in Pittsburgh. At 6-foot-7, 264 pounds, Washington has the size to continue to make his mark as a run blocker, but the Georgia product has some untapped potential as a receiver and should have an opportunity to demonstrate that more in 2024, while working behind top option Pat Freiermuth in a TE corps that also includes Connor Heyward and MyCole Pruitt. • Set to compete for WR slotting
As the coming season approaches, Austin is in line to compete with several newcomers for depth chart slotting behind top wideout George Pickens, Chris Ward of Steelersnow.com reports.

Advice: In the wake of the offseason departures of Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson, the Steelers added Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and Scott Miller via free agency and used a third-round draft pick on Roman Wilson. Austin, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he caught 17 of his 30 targets for 180 yards and a TD while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a TD in 17 games. In his third season as a pro, the speedy 5-foot-9, 162-pounder has an opportunity to carve out an increased role in Pittsburgh's offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith. • Signs lucrative extension
Waddle signed a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension with the Dolphins on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal includes $76 million guaranteed.

Advice: Waddle is now one of the top five highest-paid receivers in the NFL with an annual salary of $28.25 million. The 2021 first-round pick has been dominant since entering the league, ripping off three straight seasons with 1,000-plus yards, including a 2022 campaign where he produced 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. The 25-year-old battled injuries last season but is fully healthy ahead of the 2024 campaign. Waddle is still the clear No. 2 receiver behind Tyreek Hill, but there's clearly room for both players to produce as the fastest receiving duo in the league. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:17 am

  • Lands with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Gathings to a one-year contract Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Advice: Gathings spent time on the Chiefs' practice squad last season and signed a reserve/future deal with Kansas City in February before being cut May 4. The 23-year-old out of Middle Tennessee joins a deep Pittsburgh tight end corps that is headed by Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward, though that group was relatively unproductive last season. • Kittle (core-muscle) expects to be ready for camp
George Kittle said he underwent core-muscle surgery in the offseason and expects to return to practice by training camp.

Advice: Kittle told reporters he suffered the injury around Week 9 or 10 and played through it for the remainder of the season. He has been out of commission for OTAs but wasn’t concerned about his availability for camp, saying his recovery is on schedule. Kittle topped 1,000 yards for the third time in his career and caught 65 passes despite the injury. He didn’t miss any games outside of the rest week all San Francisco starters got in Week 18. Though his production remains streaky, Kittle showed no signs of slowing in 2023 and remains in the middle of the TE1 pack. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:03 pm
