    • Bryce Young ‘doing fantastic’ in new offense
Panthers HC Dave Canales said Bryce Young is “doing fantastic” in the team’s new offense.

Advice: Coming off one of the worst rookie years in recent memory, anything that’s positive is good news for Young, who is hoping to put a disastrous 2023 campaign behind him. Canales added that Young has “really mastered” learning the routes and desired footwork for plays early on, and praised him for his consistency. Canales was instrumental in Baker Mayfield’s bounce-back with the Buccaneers last season. His success with Mayfield is ultimately what helped him land his role with the Panthers this offseason, as owner David Tepper hopes his former No. 1 pick can display some of the promise that made him the the top selection in last year’s draft. An early mastery of the offense is a great sign for Young, but we’ll have to see how this continues to transfer to the field once training camp starts up in a few months. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago

    • Played through injury in 2023
Smith-Schuster said Monday at the start of OTAs that he never reached 100 percent health during the 2023 season, Chris Mason of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Smith-Schuster said the last 12 months have made a "big difference," and he estimated that last offseason he was only at 60 percent health due to a lingering knee injury. Across 11 games in 2023, he was an afterthought in New England's offense, finishing with just a 29-260-1 receiving line despite little established competition at the position. If truly healthier and now able to move better, Smith-Schuster could earn more consistent targets from Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye, though the Patriots' wide receiver corps has gotten more crowded with the additions of rookies Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker, plus free-agent addition K.J. Osborn. Rotowire.com Today, 1:22 pm

    • Browns sign Lucas Havrisik to deal
Browns signed K Lucas Havrisik, formerly of the Rams.

Advice: Havrisik had a brief stint with the Browns last season but never attempted a field goal for them. The third-year kicker did, however, make nine appearances for the Rams last season, converting on 15-of-20 field goals, with four of them coming from 40-plus yards out. He’ll presumably get a chance to compete with Dustin Hopkins and Cade York for the Browns’ starting kicker role this season. Last season, Hopkins converted on 33-of-36 of his field goal attempts. • Could take slot snaps?
Vaughn (ankle) is a candidate to earn more work out of the slot this offseason, Reid Hanson of USA Today reports.

Advice: Vaughn only suited up for seven games as a rookie before landing on IR, across which he totaled just 80 yards from scrimmage without a touchdown. Now presumably healthy, the 5-foot-6 running back could have a clearer path to backfield opportunities with Tony Pollard having moved on to Tennessee, even with Ezekiel Elliott now back atop the depth chart. The slot could be a more natural fit for Vaughn, though to emerge as an actual fantasy contributor in Year 2, he'll need to earn more than the occasional designed play. Rotowire.com Today, 1:14 pm

    • Absent start of OTAs
Jefferson is not present for the start of OTAs on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: Jefferson is amidst contract negotiations with Minnesota, so it won't be surprising if he doesn't show up for voluntary workouts with the team. The Vikings' mandatory minicamp won't begin until June 4, at which point Jefferson will incur fines if he isn't in attendance. The star wideout currently is heading into the final year of his rookie contract with a fifth-year option that will pay him $19.7 million. In just 10 games last season, Jefferson still managed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, his fourth straight such campaign to begin his NFL career. His value to Minnesota's offense, and the development of rookie first-round quarterback J.J. McCarthy, is impossible to overstate, so the team has every incentive to agree to a new long-term extension with haste. Rotowire.com Today, 12:41 pm

    • Justin Jefferson absent from voluntary OTAs
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Justin Jefferson was not present for the Vikings’ voluntary OTAs.

Advice: Yes, the OTAs are voluntary, but Jefferson’s absence likely stems from his impending contract extension. The Vikings’ WR1 has been in talks with the team over an extension and also skipped out on April’s voluntary workouts for the same reason. While this is somewhat notable, it’s not uncommon for players in the midst of negotiations to skip out on voluntary activities. This will become much more of a story if Jefferson misses any part of training camp while hashing out a deal. Jefferson is currently under contract and set to earn just north of $19.7 million in 2024. Rotoworld Today, 12:21 pm

    • Smith-Schuster ‘100 percent healthy’ entering OTAs
JuJu Smith-Schuster said he feels “100 percent healthy” heading into OTAs.

Advice: According to Smith-Schuster, he felt about “60 percent” healthy during this time last season. The veteran receiver was dealing with a knee injury that carried over from his 2022 season with the Chiefs and said he never reached a point of feeling 100 percent healthy. Now, that’s all changed. Speaking Monday at OTAs, Smith-Schuster said he feels like he is in full health, which is good news for the Patriots, who signed him to a three-year, $25 million contract last offseason. Smith-Schuster caught 29 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games for the Patriots last season, looking like a fraction of the player he was in 2022 when he went for 78-933-3 with the Chiefs. If healthy, he should be the best receiver in New England’s underwhelming wide receiver room. With that said, it’s hard to imagine him having anything more than WR4 fantasy upside until we get a chance to see him on the field. Rotoworld Today, 11:26 am

    • Drake Maye opens Patriots OTAs as QB3 behind Zappe
Patriots reporter Doug Kyed said Drake Maye worked behind Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe on the first day of OTAs.

Advice: We shouldn’t read too much into this, but it is worth noting where the rookie currently stands in the pecking order. The Patriots don’t appear eager to rush Maye into anything he’s not comfortable with — especially this early into the offseason, allowing him to work behind Zappe on the first day of OTAs. Kyed also noted earlier that head coach Jerrod Mayo is impressed with the work Maye has put in since joining the team, saying that Maye has been spotted working by himself in the quarterback room to learn the offense. We wouldn’t expect Maye’s status as the QB3 to carry over into the regular season, but at least we know where he stands at this point in the offseason. Rotoworld Today, 10:54 am

    • Schefter: Rashee Rice to report to Chiefs OTAs
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Rashee Rice will be present at Chiefs OTAs this week.

Advice: According to Schefter, Rice will be present and participate in all activities. The second-year receiver has had a tumultuous offseason since winning the Super Bowl with the Chiefs back in February. In addition to being involved in a hit-and-run and charged with two felonies, Rice is also under investigation for assaulting a photographer at a nightclub earlier this month. Rice posted a receiving line of 79-938-7 during his rookie campaign and averaged 72.1 yards per game over his final eight regular season contests. What should have been an exciting 2024 for Rice has gotten off on the wrong foot, as he’s likely facing some sort of suspension from the league once his legal issues are fully sorted out. Assuming he misses some time, an early selection of Rice in fantasy could make for a risky selection this season. Rotoworld Today, 9:36 am
