    • Breece Hall: ‘I feel like I’m back to my old self’
      Breece Hall said, “I feel like I’m back to my old self,” when asked about how he feels heading into training camp.

      Advice: As ESPN’s Rich Cimini points out, Hall “did miss some OTA practices and the minicamp with an undisclosed ‘lower half’ injury, but it was out of precaution, according to Hall.” Hall played in all 17 games last season after seeing his rookie year come to an end in Week 7 due to a torn ACL. Despite the injury, Hall impressed in his second season, racking up 994 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while adding another 76-591-4 through the air. The every-down back is hoping to build on last year’s success now that he’s nearly two years removed from his injury, and the Jets are also returning quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Hall finished as the RB6 in fantasy points per game last season despite playing on an offense that ranked 29th in points per game and dead last in red zone scoring touchdown rate (32.4 percent). A fully healthy Hall and Rodgers could be enough to propel Hall into the overall RB1 in 2024 in what’s expected to be a much-improved offense. Rotoworld Today, 10:48 am

    • Shanahan: ‘We have to protect’ CMC from himself
      49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said, “We have to protect Christian McCaffrey from himself,” when asked about the possibility of reducing McCaffrey’s workload in 2024.

      Advice: Shanahan added that the team has “guys that can run the ball” and noted that while McCaffery has proven capable of handling 20-plus carries a game, at some point, the team would “like to take some of that off of him and give [the ball] to other guys also. McCaffery signed a two-year extension with the 49ers in early June after rushing for 272-1,459-14 while adding another 67-564-7 through the air. The 28-year-old running back played in 10 of a possible 33 games from 2020-2021 but has played in all but one regular season contest over the last two years. A potential decline in touches for a back who led the league with 339 touches in 2023 is worrisome for fantasy managers, but McCaffrey’s efficiency and pass-catching upside will always keep his ceiling high. We’d also expect him to remain the preferred back near the goal line and high-value areas of the field. Fantasy managers should still feel comfortable taking him at the top of drafts this season.     • Bengals RBs ‘far more active’ in pass game
      The Athletic’s Paul Dehner reports Bengals running backs have been “far more active” in the team’s passing game in offseason practices.

      Advice: It’s unclear who will take on the Bengals’ primary pass-catching role out of the backfield, though Chase Brown excelled in that role as a rookie in 2023. The speedy Brown caught 14 of his 15 targets for 156 yards and a touchdown last season. Zack Moss could also mix in on passing downs, though he seems more likely to take on Cincinnati’s primary early down role. Last season, Joe Mixon saw an 11 percent target share (64 targets) as the team’s lead back. More pass-game usage could be a huge statistical boon for Brown if he seizes the pass catching role this summer. Rotoworld Friday, 10:10 am

    • Kyren Williams hopes to showcase receiving skills
      Rams RB Kyren Williams said rookie RB Blake Corum “can run the ball very well and hopefully it allows me to get to the slot or run routes out of the backfield.”

      Advice: The Rams added Corum to a backfield dominated by Williams last season. Williams has been dealing with a foot issue in the offseason while Corum has been asked to develop a three-down skillset. The two backs could complement each other in the Rams offense. It is most notable that Williams said Corum’s addition as a runner could help him showcase even more as a pass-catcher after catching 32 passes for 206 yards last season. Though Corum’s addition has Williams optimistically thinking about their complementary roles, Williams has a notable injury history and is a risky gamble at cost for fantasy football with the added competition for touches. Corum will see the field next season, but expect Williams to be the lead back. If his comments are any indication, Williams’ pass-catching upside could see a bump for 2024. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:04 pm

      The Seahawks waived Williams on Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.

      Advice: Williams inked with Seattle as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft, but after spending OTAs and minicamp with the team he'll now need to search for a new opportunity.     • Sermon ‘likeliest option’ to be RB2 behind Taylor
      ESPN’s Stephen Holder believes Trey Sermon is “the likeliest option” to win the Colts’ backup running back job.

      Advice: A former third-round pick of the 49ers in 2021, Sermon hasn’t seen much work as a pro, appearing in just 25 games during his three-year career while rushing for 78-346-1 over that span. With Zack Moss now in Cincinnati, Sermon, who joined the Colts last season, has a chance to earn a meaningful role heading into this season. Jonathan Taylor will still handle the large majority of the Colts’ touches, but whoever ends up as his backup could make for a solid stash in fantasy leagues.       Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley reports Tank Bigsby “didn’t have the standout offseason program that he had last year.”

      Advice: More concerningly, Shipley reports Bigsby continued to struggle with drops. Coach Doug Pederson has talked up wanting to get Bigsby more involved as a second-year pro after his disappointing rookie campaign, but he’s off to a poor start. It’s extra bad news for the Jags since they passed on meaningful reinforcements in the draft or free agency. Travis Etienne continues to profile for massive work even though Jacksonville knows he ideally would be more of a 60 percent player from a snaps perspective.
