    • Report: Xavier Gipson “figures” to play slot role
SNY’s Connor Hughes reported “The Jets’ three-receiver set figures to be Garrett Wilson, Xavier Gipson (slot) and Mike Williams.”

Advice: Hughes went on to say, “Rookie Malachi Corley will work as a slot/gadget/returner,” though his early-third-round draft capital and post-catch quicks should earn him a role soon enough. Gipson, a 2023 undrafted free agent, makes for a reasonable rookie hurdle. Among NFL returners with at least 15 total returns, Gipson ranks and ties 13th in both yards per kickoff return (23.3) and yards per punt return (9.7), respectively, and his 55 total returns ranks No. 1. He averaged 10.9 yards per reception on 21 receptions but his 0.67 yards per route run belies his moderate receiving successes. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago

    • Commanders sign K Ramiz Ahmed
      Commanders signed K Ramiz Ahmed.

Advice: Ahmed spent two seasons kicking for the University of Nevada, converting on 40-of-44 extra point attempts and 15-of-20 field goals. He had offseason stints with the Bears in 2020 and the Packers in 2022 but never caught on with a regular-season roster. He kicked in six games for the Birmingham Stallions during the 2024 UFL season, going 10-for-13 on his attempts and 4-of-7 on distances of 40-plus yards. Ahmed is far from a lock to be the Commanders’ Week 1 kicker, as the team will likely bring in additional competition for training camp. Rotoworld Today, 10:30 am

    • In stable condition
Thompson is in stable condition after having a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting Thursday, Adam Teicher of ESPN and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report.

Advice: Per Teicher, Thompson was taken to an area hospital by ambulance from the Chiefs' practice facility Thursday morning, after which the team's scheduled OTA practice was rescheduled for Friday. Thompson, a 2023 fifth-round draft pick, played in one regular-season game as a rookie, recording two tackles in Week 18. Rotowire.com Today, 10:28 am

    • Sitting out practice
Pierce (foot) is not practicing Thursday, the final day of mandatory minicamp, as a precautionary measure, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Advice: Pierce hasn't practice this week after his foot was stepped on in a previous practice, but it doesn't appear that there's any worry about his status for training camp. The 2022 second-round pick is competing with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell for No. 3 receiver reps behind Michael Pittman (knee) and Josh Downs, so missing any amount of time could portent a hit to Pierce's stock. In two seasons with the Colts, Pierce has averaged a mediocre 554 yards and two touchdowns, but he could've been held back by questionable quarterback play. Rotowire.com Today, 10:20 am

    • Still managing soreness
Richardson took a rest day at practice Thursday due to shoulder soreness, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Coach Shane Steichen said "there's nothing to worry about," per Boyd, and that Richardson would be in line to play were the Colts preparing for a game-scenario this weekend. Steichen added that Richardson had his shoulder checked Thursday morning, and it was confirmed that the quarterback is only dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Richardson has been participating in 11-on-11 drills and throwing throughout OTAs, and some soreness as he ramps up his practice activities is to be expected. He remains on track to be full strength for the start of training camp late July. Rotowire.com Today, 9:48 am

    • Chiefs DL BJ Thompson suffers medical emergency
Chiefs DL BJ Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during Thursday’s special teams meeting.

Advice: According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thompson is in stable condition thanks to the speedy response of the team’s medical staff. Thompson was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth-round pick of the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in one game for them last season. The Chiefs canceled all team activities for the day. • Anthony Richardson dealing with shoulder soreness
Colts HC Shane Steichen said Anthony Richardson is dealing with some soreness in his right shoulder.

Advice: Richardson was spotted participating in team drills but was noticeably throwing with his left hand rather than his right. Steichen downplayed the severity of the soreness Richardson is dealing with, saying the second-year quarterback still feels well enough to play in a game if it were that time of year. Richardson’s shoulder will remain a hot topic of conversation throughout the offseason after he played in just four games last year. Richardson’s ceiling for this upcoming fantasy season is as high as that of any quarterback in the league after he averaged an impressive 27.4 fantasy points per game in the two games he appeared in start-to-finish. • Elijah Mitchell remains ‘clear No. 2' RB for 49ers
The Athletic’s David Lombardi says Elijah Mitchell is the “clear No. 2" running back behind Christian McCaffrey.

Advice: This is based on Lombardi’s observations from OTAs and minicamp, but it sounds like Mitchell continues to have the inside edge as the RB2 behind fantasy football’s most valuable player. As Lombardi points out, the key to Mitchell offering any sort of contribution is his health, as the fourth-year vet has appeared in just 27 games during his first three seasons. Mitchell saw limited action last season, rushing 75 times for 281 yards and two touchdowns, with most of that production coming in the final two weeks of the regular season. He remains a high-end stash behind CMC but has little to no standalone value as long as McCaffrey is healthy. Rotoworld Today, 9:24 am

    • Cameron Latu on track for training camp
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said TE Cameron Latu (knee) is on track to be ready for the start of training camp.

Advice: Latu was a third-round pick of the 49ers in last year’s draft but didn’t see action in the regular season after undergoing knee surgery. In his final two seasons at Alabama, Latu caught 56 passes for 787 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’ll have a chance to compete for the backup role behind George Kittle this offseason.
