• Stephon Gilmore: ‘Being patient right now’
Free agent CB Stephon Gilmore told reporters he is “just being patient and waiting for the right opportunity.”

Advice: The 12-year veteran cornerback started all 17 games for the Cowboys in 2023 but was not re-signed following the season. Gilmore is not short on accomplishments during his illustrious career, having earned five Pro Bowl nods, two All-Pro honors, and a defensive player of the year award and even received above average grades across the board from PFF in his 12th season last year. Even so, Gilmore is likely looking at a veteran minimum contract at this point in the offseason unless he waits for injuries to start piling up once the season begins. Rotoworld Today, 1:32 pm

  • Entering important third season
Elam received extra reps throughout the spring due to veteran Rasul Douglas missing the voluntary OTA sessions, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Advice: Elam hasn't quite panned out yet as a first-round draft choice from 2022, but all the talk around the Bills this offseason seems to indicate the team is going to give him a fair crack at playing time in 2024. He's currently listed as a backup behind Douglas (who did show up for all non-voluntary work) and holdover Christian Benford, but with Tre'Davious White departing to the Rams, there's a real chance for Elam to see meaningful playing time, whether as a key backup or even sneaking his way into a starter's role. • Ravens expect Humphrey to be ready for camp
Ravens HC John Harbaugh said he expects Marlon Humphrey to be ready for training camp.

Advice: According to Harbaugh, Humphrey is dealing with “nagging things.” The veteran corner dealt with a foot surgery that limited him at the start of last season and missed four games with a calf injury. After being sidelined in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, Humphrey returned to play in 13 snaps of the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. Humphrey earned a PFF coverage grade of 62.7 last season but surrendered just 236 yards and one touchdown on 19 receptions. The soon-to-be 28-year-old remains one of the premiere corners in the league when healthy. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:32 pm

  • Back on practice field
Mullen (toe) is participating in mandatory minicamp, Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site reports.

Advice: Mullen missed the entire 2023 season due to a toe injury, but he's now back on the practice field and competing for a roster spot. The veteran cornerback is capable of contributing both as a depth option on defense, and on special teams. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:52 am

  • Returning to more comfortable role
Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said at mandatory minicamp Wednesday that he "failed" to put Fitzpatrick "in the best position" during the 2023 season and intends for him to play more at free safety going forward, Joe Clark of Steelers Depot reports.

Advice: Fizpatrick played a career-high 134 snaps in the slot last season despite appearing in just 10 games, per Clark, and his 161 snaps at box safety were the second-highest tally of his career. That heavily intruded on Fitzpatrick's ability to suit up at free safety, where his talents best shine, resulting in his first year without a single turnover. Fitzpatrick said he hopes to get back to playing "Minkah Ball" in 2024, and getting the 2018 first-round pick back to a deep safety role could allow him to return to his four-time Pro Bowler form. The addition of DeShon Elliott in free agency should facilitate that plan. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:42 am

  • Injury settlement reached
The Steelers waived Barcoo (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: The 25-year-old corner most recently appeared in a game with the Jaguars in 2020. Now that he's reached an injury settlement with Pittsburgh, Barcoo is free to sign with another team once he's medically cleared. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:02 pm

  • Reaches injury settlement
The Lions released James (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: James was placed on IR on Tuesday after sustaining some sort of injury during minicamp, and the 28-year-old cornerback and the Lions have now agreed to part ways. James will be free to sign elsewhere once he returns to full health. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:58 pm

  • Past back issue
Moss (back) was spotted participating in Denver's mandatory minicamp session Wednesday, Keith Cummings of SI.com reports.

Advice: The second-year cornerback was held out of practices earlier in the offseason with a back injury, but he now seems to have moved past the issue. Moss saw minimal work on defense during his rookie campaign, tallying six total tackles while playing just 23 defensive snaps through 14 games. He's expected to compete for another depth role in Denver's secondary now that he's regained health. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:33 pm

  • Inks deal with Giants
Herndon agreed to a contract with the Giants on Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old cornerback spent the first six seasons of his career in Jacksonville, but he's now found a new home in New York. Last season, Herndon started in four of his 16 appearances, recording 46 total tackles and nine passes defensed. He's expected to add depth to a Giants secondary that ranked 19th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (229.3) in 2023. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:25 pm
