    Jefferson is not present for the start of OTAs on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

    Advice: Jefferson is amidst contract negotiations with Minnesota, so it won't be surprising if he doesn't show up for voluntary workouts with the team. The Vikings' mandatory minicamp won't begin until June 4, at which point Jefferson will incur fines if he isn't in attendance. The star wideout is currently heading into the final year of his rookie contract, a fifth-year option that would pay him $19.7 million. In just 10 games last year Jefferson still managed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, his fourth straight such season to begin his NFL career. His value to Minnesota's offense, and the development of rookie first-round quarterback J.J.   • Justin Jefferson absent from voluntary OTAs
    ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Justin Jefferson was not present for the Vikings’ voluntary OTAs.

    Advice: Yes, the OTAs are voluntary, but Jefferson’s absence likely stems from his impending contract extension. The Vikings’ WR1 has been in talks with the team over an extension and also skipped out on April’s voluntary workouts for the same reason. While this is somewhat notable, it’s not uncommon for players in the midst of negotiations to skip out on voluntary activities. This will become much more of a story if Jefferson misses any part of training camp while hashing out a deal.   • Smith-Schuster ‘100 percent healthy’ entering OTAs
    JuJu Smith-Schuster said he feels “100 percent healthy” heading into OTAs.

    Advice: According to Smith-Schuster, he felt about “60 percent” healthy during this time last season. The veteran receiver was dealing with a knee injury that carried over from his 2022 season with the Chiefs and said he never reached a point of feeling 100 percent healthy. Now, that’s all changed. Speaking Monday at OTAs, Smith-Schuster said he feels like he is in full health, which is good news for the Patriots, who signed him to a three-year, $25 million contract last offseason. Smith-Schuster caught 29 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games for the Patriots last season, looking like a fraction of the player he was in 2022 when he went for 78-933-3 with the Chiefs. If healthy, he should be the best receiver in New England’s underwhelming wide receiver room.   • Drake Maye opens Patriots OTAs as QB3 behind Zappe
    Patriots reporter Doug Kyed said Drake Maye worked behind Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe on the first day of OTAs.

    Advice: We shouldn’t read too much into this, but it is worth noting where the rookie currently stands in the pecking order. The Patriots don’t appear eager to rush Maye into anything he’s not comfortable with — especially this early into the offseason, allowing him to work behind Zappe on the first day of OTAs. Kyed also noted earlier that head coach Jerrod Mayo is impressed with the work Maye has put in since joining the team, saying that Maye has been spotted working by himself in the quarterback room to learn the offense. We wouldn’t expect Maye’s status as the QB3 to carry over into the regular season, but at least we know where he stands at this point in the offseason. Rotoworld Today, 10:54 am

  • Schefter: Rashee Rice to report to Chiefs OTAs
    ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Rashee Rice will be present at Chiefs OTAs this week.

    Advice: According to Schefter, Rice will be present and participate in all activities. The second-year receiver has had a tumultuous offseason since winning the Super Bowl with the Chiefs back in February. In addition to being involved in a hit-and-run and charged with two felonies, Rice is also under investigation for assaulting a photographer at a nightclub earlier this month. Rice posted a receiving line of 79-938-7 during his rookie campaign and averaged 72.1 yards per game over his final eight regular season contests. What should have been an exciting 2024 for Rice has gotten off on the wrong foot, as he’s likely facing some sort of suspension from the league once his legal issues are fully sorted out.   • Sitting out OTAs
    Coach Jerod Mayo said Monday that Bourne (knee) will not participate in OTAs, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.

    Advice: Bourne is working his way back from a right ACL tear that forced him to miss the final nine games of the 2023 campaign, and while he said back in March that he expects to be a "full go" for training camp, it looks like spring activities would be too early a benchmark. That will cost Bourne an early chance to build chemistry with new quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye, but as long as he's indeed able to get on the practice field for training camp, there shouldn't be real concerns about his availability for Week 1. Bourne re-signed with the Patriots on a three-year, $33 million contract this offseason, though it only contains $5.5 million guaranteed at signing with a $19.5 million base value.   • Present for start of OTAs
    Tagovailoa is present for the start of OTAs on Monday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Tagovailoa was recently reported to have missed a notable amount of Miami's offseason work amid ongoing talks about a contract extension, but the 26-year-old quarterback is in the building to kick off the start of OTAs. It appears that both Tagovailoa and the Dolphins' organization are confident that an extension will get done prior to the start of the regular season, so unless things stall on that front there shouldn't be too many concerns about the quarterback's offseason participation. Currently, Tagovailoa is slated to play out the 2024 campaign on his fifth-year option. He played a full 17 regular-season games last year for the first time in his career, achieving new highs with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Rotowire.com Today, 6:18 am

  • Russini: Tua Tagovailoa reports to Dolphins OTAs
    The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports Tua Tagovailoa reported to Dolphins OTAs.

    Advice: Last week, it was reported that it was “unclear” whether Tagovailoa would report to OTAs, as he and the Dolphins are in the midst of contract negotiations. Tagovailoa from the Dolphins earlier this offseason, and with Jared Goff fresh off the heels of signing a new deal that will net him more than $50 million a year, a new precedent has been established for Tagovailoa, who could be seeking top dollar on a market that’s been very kind to quarterbacks in recent offseasons. Tagovailoa has thrown for 25-plus touchdowns in back-to-back seasons and led the Dolphins to a 19-11 record in his starts over that span.   • More competition emerges
    Hollins, who was signed as a free agent by the Bills in March, has seen the receiver room fill out in the time since, with the Bills drafting Keon Coleman in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft while also adding veterans Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Chase Claypool.

    Advice: For a very brief period, Hollins was a starter on the otherwise lethal Buffalo offensive depth chart, but things have changed, and it now looks as if the Bills will let several journeymen duke it out for slotting. With Buffalo being likely to feature running back James Cook and tight end Dalton Kincaid heavily in the passing game, it's difficult to envision Hollins having anything more than a depth role as a receiver that offers good size in the red zone, though it should be noted that he's never caught more than four touchdowns in an NFL season.
