  • Rex: Dan Carpenter 'needs to kick better'
Speaking Tuesday, Bills coach Rex Ryan said K Dan Carpenter "needs to kick better."

Advice: Carpenter converted 34-of-38 field goal attempts in 2014, but is just 2-of-4 this summer. He's also missed an extra point. Carpenter's Week 1 roster spot is secure, but he can't afford a slow start. The Bills are keeping Jordan Gay as a kickoff specialist. Yesterday, 11:00 am

  • Steelers send Hartley to I.R.
Steelers placed K Garrett Hartley on injured reserve, ending his season.

Advice: Hartley suffered a severe hamstring injury in Pittsburgh's third preseason game. The Steelers have replaced him by trading for Josh Scobee. Monday, 1:15 pm

  • Steelers trade 6th-rounder for K Josh Scobee
Steelers acquired K Josh Scobee from the Jaguars in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

Advice: With Garrett Hartley suffering a potentially serious injury in the third preseason game, the Steelers needed to add another option. They also lost Shaun Suisham to a torn ACL in the exhibition opener. Scobee has been the Jaguars' kicker since 2004. Jason Myers should take over the kicking duties in Jacksonville, while Scobee suddenly becomes fantasy relevant in Pittsburgh. Monday, 7:30 am

  • Bucs sign Connor Barth
Buccaneers signed K Connor Barth, formerly of the Broncos.

Advice: Barth was cut by the Broncos earlier in the day. He's resurfacing in Tampa Bay, where Barth will be the favorite over Brandon Bogotay and Patrick Murray. Those who drafted Barth in early best-ball leagues can take solace in the fact that he'll be kicking at all this year. We'd also advise those best-ball leagues to eliminate the kicker position. All fantasy leagues, for that matter. Wednesday, 5:57 pm

  • Blair Walsh goes 0-for-3 in Saturday's win
Blair Walsh has made just 7-of-16 field goals since Week 14 of last year and 2-of-6 during the Vikings' three preseason games.

Advice: Walsh went 0-for-3 in Saturday's preseason game and even missed one of his extra-point attempts. "It didn’t feel real good with how I hit the ball obviously, and the results showed that," said Walsh. "I have to do better. Preseason or regular season, that cannot happen, and I know that." The Vikings have to be at least a little concerned with Walsh after signing him to a four-year extension last month. Aug 23, 8:24 am
