    • Set to compete with veteran kicker
Ryland is slated to face competition from veteran kicker Joey Slye, who is in line to sign with the Patriots, Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports.

Advice: Ryland, who the Patriots took in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is coming off a rookie campaign in which he made just 64 percent of his field-goal attempts (16 of 25). Though the Maryland product has a strong kicking leg, he'll need to display better accuracy in the coming months in order to hold off the challenge presented by the 28-year-old Slye, who connected on 79.2 percent of his field-goal tries with the Commanders last season. • Gets opportunity with New England
Slye has agreed to a deal with the Patriots, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: After being released by the Jaguars earlier this week, it didn't take long for the 28-year-old -- who kicked for the Commanders last year -- to catch on with another team. Now that he's with the Patriots, Slye (who made 19 of his 24 field-goal tries and 32 of his 35 extra-point attempts across 17 regular-season games in 2023) will have an opportunity to compete with 2023 fourth-rounder Chad Ryland, who is coming off an inconsistent rookie campaign for New England. • Patriots to sign K Joey Slye
Patriots sign K Joey Slye, formerly of the Jaguars.

Advice: Slye will serve as camp competition for second-year kicker Chad Ryland, who converted on 16-of-25 field goals in his rookie season. Ryland missed 7-of-14 attempts from 40-plus yards out, a range that Slye converted on at a 71.4 percent rate last season. Slye has converted 82.3 percent of his field goals for his career and has spent the last two seasons with Washington. While he was most recently with the Jaguars, Slye never attempted a field goal for them, as he was signed back in mid-March as a free agent. Rotoworld Today, 8:36 am

    • Replaced by rookie
The Jaguars released Slye on Tuesday.

Advice: Slye inked with Jacksonville as a free agent back in March, but he's now lost his spot on the roster to rookie sixth-round pick Cam Little. Meanwhile, Riley Patterson remains with the Jaguars as potential offseason competition for Little. Slye converted 19 of 24 field-goal tries and 32 of 35 extra-point attempts across 17 games with Washington last season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:17 am

    • Jaguars release veteran K Joey Slye
      Jaguars released K Joey Slye.

Advice: Jacksonville draft K Cam Little out of Arkansas with the 212th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. With Slye’s release, it looks like Little will compete with veteran Riley Patterson for kicking duties. Little converted nearly 83 percent of his field goals at Arkansas and never missed an extra point. Little was first-team All-SEC as a kickoff specialist. Slye, who made 85 percent of his kicks during three years with the Commanders, will likely find work elsewhere this summer. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:09 am
