The Titans are expected to sign free agent K Ryan Succop "as early as Monday."

Advice: Succop would replace Travis Coons, who temporarily won a training camp battle over Maikon Bonani. The Titans are scraping the bottom of the kicker pile after Succop finished 2013 22-of-28 on field goal tries with Kansas City. Rotoworld.com

  • Chiefs, Alex Smith do 4-year, $68M extension
Chiefs agreed to terms with QB Alex Smith on a four-year, $68 million extension through 2018.

Advice: Because Smith was owed $8 million in 2014, the deal is actually $76 million over five seasons -- a $15.2 million annual average -- with $45 million guaranteed. If you treat Andy Dalton's Bengals deal similarly, Smith is collecting roughly $1.3 million more per year, but is still well south of Jay Cutler ($18.1 million annually) and Joe Flacco ($20.1 million) money. Even with Smith's passing limitations considered, this seems like a fair deal for both sides. The Chiefs will continue to lean heavily on running back Jamaal Charles and a talented defensive front seven to carry them in games. Smith seemed to grow as a quarterback over the course of his first season under Andy Reid, posting career highs in passing touchdowns (23) and rushing (76-431-1). He became more willing to pull the trigger on tough throws as the year progressed. Smith, 30, is a low-ceiling QB2 in fantasy leagues and will probably remain that way for the rest of his career. • Ben Tate likely to open year as every-down RB
Coach Mike Pettine said Sunday he's "comfortable" leaving Ben Tate in on third downs.

Advice: Tate has obviously secured Cleveland's early-down rushing job, and it appears he'll open the season as a true every-down back. Rookie Terrance West faded as soon as the preseason began, getting exposed as not NFL-ready. The Browns' No. 3 tailback is UDFA Isaiah Crowell. Considering how poorly West played in August, it's possible Tate does not have a clear handcuff. West and Crowell might share the workload in the event of an injury to Tate. Rotoworld.com

In the event of a DeMarco Murray injury, Randle would share Dallas' backfield with Lance Dunbar. He did take something of a step back in New England's preseason finale, but ultimately was the better option over Ryan Mallett. Texans acquired QB Ryan Mallett from the Patriots in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2016.

Advice: The "compensation" is as close to nothing as the Texans could have sent. Seemingly on the block since the day he arrived in New England in 2011, Mallett has been heavily connected to the Texans since they named former Pats OC Bill O'Brien head coach. Mallett adds more depth to the Texans' uninspiring trio of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage, but isn't an obvious upgrade. His acquisition should mean Keenum is sent packing. Note that with Dwayne Bowe suspended for Week 1, the Chiefs' wideout depth chart reads Donnie Avery, Frankie Hammond, Junior Hemingway, Albert Wilson, A.J. Jenkins. Advice: This was part of the Ravens' plan, as Rice will miss the first two games of the season. Bernard Pierce was concussed against Washington, leading to more carries for Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro than anticipated. It remains unclear whether Rice will become Baltimore's starter once he returns. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Johnson has one-catch night vs. Rams
Charles Johnson caught 1-of-2 targets for 13 yards in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: His grab came deep into garbage time with the second-team offense. Johnson has lots of theoretical upside, but just five catches for 46 yards through three preseason games. He should have a spot on the 53-man roster, but is unlikely to make a re-draft impact this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis Kelce's preseason: 10-185 with 2 TDs
Travis Kelce caught 4-of-6 targets for 49 yards in the Chiefs' third preseason game Saturday night against Minnesota.

Advice: Kelce did mix in with the first-team offense, but he's still pretty clearly behind Anthony Fasano on the depth chart. The Chiefs need to change that quick to maximize their offensive talent. Through three preseason affairs, Kelce has reeled in 10-of-13 targets for 185 yards and two touchdowns. He's still only a TE2 in re-draft leagues, but is an elite long-term Dynasty prospect. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Williams strong in 3rd preseason game
Cowboys RB Ryan Williams rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries against the Dolphins Saturday.

Advice: Williams was impressive again, showing good burst and finishing strong all night. He now has 112 yards on 25 carries (4.48 YPC) this preseason. Depending on the severity of Joseph Randle's oblique injury, Williams could open the season at the Cowboys' No. 3 running back. Rotoworld.com

  • Ben Tate has quiet night in rehearsal
Ben Tate rushed three times for five yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.

Advice: He wasn't targeted in the passing game. Tate started, but wasn't heard from after the Browns' opening drive. Cleveland is saving him for Week 1. Almost certainly done for the preseason, Tate finishes with 19 carries for 81 yards (4.26 YPC). He didn't catch a pass. Not riveting stuff, but Tate did nothing to lose his chokehold on No. 1 duties. Talented rookie Terrance West has been uneven as Tate's backup, leaving him some breathing room. Rotoworld.com

  • Alex Smith picked off twice Saturday night
Alex Smith completed 14-of-24 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions in the Chiefs' third preseason game Saturday night against the Vikings.

Advice: He added three carries for 21 yards. Playing with Donnie Avery, Frankie Hammond, and UDFA Albert Wilson at wideout, Smith was picked in the first quarter on a throw intended for Hammond, and later on a pass meant for Travis Kelce. Both interceptions came on red-zone plays. Smith is 31-of-51 passing for 286 yards, and three turnovers this preseason. He lost a fumble in Kansas City's exhibition opener, and has not accounted for any touchdowns. Rotoworld.com

  • Julio Jones looks explosive, nets 52-yard TD
Julio Jones caught two passes for 63 yards with a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans.

Advice: Jones' foot was a non-issue, just as it's been all preseason. His touchdown grab was of the highlight-reel variety, as he shrugged off a two-handed tackle of Coty Sensabaugh on a simple slant and outran the defense 52 yards to the house. It's the latest example of Jones' freakish size/speed/power combo. In two preseason appearances, he has four catches for 83 yards with a touchdown and will be a full-go for Week 1. Jones, dripping with No. 1 overall wideout talent on a pass-first team, is a fine pick at the top of the second round in fantasy. Rotoworld.com

  • Rib injury sidelines Joseph Randle
RB Joseph Randle was forced from the Cowboys' third preseason game with a strained oblique.

Advice: His return is officially questionable, but it would be a surprise if he saw any more action. Randle did not record a stat in the game. Ryan Williams should get an extended look with Randle sidelined. Rotoworld.com

  • Cowboys unlikely to keep Ryan Williams?
ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer does not believe RB Ryan Williams will make the final roster.

Advice: Williams has been impressive this preseason (65 yards on 13 carries with seven receptions), but he has been outplayed by second-year back Joseph Randle. Unless the Cowboys decide to keep four running backs, Williams will likely be cut. Finally healthy, Williams will have no shortage of suitors if he hits the open market. He's still only 24 years old. • Cecil Shorts held without catch in debut
Cecil Shorts was held without a catch in his preseason debut.

Advice: Shorts rotated with Allen Hurns in two-wide sets and didn't appear fully healthy. He finished with two targets in the passing game. Shorts offers WR3 value in the eleventh round of fantasy drafts, but comes with red flag injury risks. Rotoworld.com

  • Garoppolo third through the gate versus CAR
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 9-of-12 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' third preseason game.

Advice: Garoppolo saw more playing time than Ryan Mallett, but was the third quarterback through the rotation Friday night. Garoppolo has been more poised in the pocket than he was in college throughout the entire preseason, and continued to look calm under pressure against the Panthers. Garoppolo has completed 24-of-37 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns this preseason. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Mallett plays one series Friday night
Ryan Mallett completed 2-of-3 passes for 14 yards in one series of work against the Panthers Friday night.

Advice: Mallett replaced Tom Brady for one series in the first quarter, and did not see the field again all night. It was likely a mind game from coach Bill Belichick to see if Mallett could handle being unexpectedly thrust into the starting lineup. Mallett performed well, and the fact that Belichick tried the experiment on Mallett instead of Jimmy Garoppolo suggests Mallett is the favorite to open the season as Brady's backup. Mallett has completed 14-of-26 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown this preseason. Rotoworld.com

  • Stephen Hill invisible in dress rehearsal
Stephen Hill secured only 1-of-4 targets for 12 yards in Friday's regular-season dress rehearsal.

Advice: He also committed a drop. It was a thoroughly uninspiring evening for a player who's on the roster bubble. The No. 43 overall pick of the 2012 draft now has just two grabs for 29 yards through three preseason games. Hill's career is trending in the wrong direction. Rotoworld.com
