    • Kaboly: Steelers could add ‘legit’ WR2 this summer
The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly said he thinks the team will “add a legit No. 2 WR before the season starts.”

Advice: Kaboly pencils in free agent signee WR Van Jefferson as the team’s current No. 2 but believes “it would show a lack of awareness and urgency” if the front office opts not to bring in outside talent. Jefferson is best used as a rotational player, having failed to best his 2020 rookie season 1.46 yards per route run average in the three years since. When considering other in-house options, Kaboly did not list third-round rookie Roman Wilson as a candidate which bodes poorly for his access to the fantasy-friendly two-wide receiver sets. A veteran addition would further jeopardize his 2024 relevance. Rotoworld Today, 11:07 am

    • Reverts to IR
White (knee) reverted to the Jaguars' injured reserve list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: The undrafted wide receiver out of East Carolina suffered a torn ACL during Monday's practice, and after going unclaimed on waivers, he's reverted back to Jacksonville's IR. Given the timing of his injury, White will presumably miss the entire 2024 campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:04 pm

    • Inks deal with New England
The Patriots signed Jackson on Thursday.

Advice: The Rutgers product has found a home in New England after he was dropped by the Falcons just two days ago. Jackson went undrafted this past April and will now compete for a depth role in the Patriots' wide receiver room as the offseason progresses. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:58 pm

    • Dropped by Patriots
New England waived Luther on Thursday.

Advice: Luther agreed to a reserve/future contract with the Patriots back in January, but the team has now decided to part ways with the 24-year-old wideout. The Gardner-Webb product will look elsewhere as he tries to make his NFL debut after going undrafted in 2023. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:27 pm

    • Report: Xavier Gipson “figures” to play slot role
SNY’s Connor Hughes reported “The Jets’ three-receiver set figures to be Garrett Wilson, Xavier Gipson (slot) and Mike Williams.”

Advice: Hughes went on to say, “Rookie Malachi Corley will work as a slot/gadget/returner,” though his early-third-round draft capital and post-catch quicks should earn him a role soon enough. Gipson, a 2023 undrafted free agent, makes for a reasonable rookie hurdle. Among NFL returners with at least 15 total returns, Gipson ranks and ties 13th in both yards per kickoff return (23.3) and yards per punt return (9.7), respectively, and his 55 total returns ranks No. 1. He averaged 10.9 yards per reception on 21 receptions but his 0.67 yards per route run belies his moderate receiving successes. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:55 am

    • Sitting out practice
Pierce (foot) is not practicing Thursday, the final day of mandatory minicamp, as a precautionary measure, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Advice: Pierce hasn't practice this week after his foot was stepped on in a previous practice, but it doesn't appear that there's any worry about his status for training camp. The 2022 second-round pick is competing with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell for No. 3 receiver reps behind Michael Pittman (knee) and Josh Downs, so missing any amount of time could portent a hit to Pierce's stock. In two seasons with the Colts, Pierce has averaged a mediocre 554 yards and two touchdowns, but he could've been held back by questionable quarterback play. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:20 am

    • Expected back for training camp
Coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Olszewski (foot) should be back on the field for training camp, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Olszewski could be done for the rest of spring after leaving practice late May to an apparent foot/ankle injury, but it looks like he won't be sidelined too long. He worked primarily as a punt returner in 2023 and should continue to contribute on special teams for the Giants, though the addition of Isaiah McKenzie this offseason provides him with some competition. • Links up with Tampa
Shepard agreed to a one-year contract with the Buccaneers on Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Advice: Shepard spent the past eight years with the Giants, playing 90 of a possible 131 regular-season games. He's had a hard time staying healthy for years now, but until last season he consistently drew targets whenever available. After catching just 10 passes in 15 games last season, the 31-year-old will compete for a depth role with Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:35 am

    • Buccaneers ink Sterling Shepard to one-year deal
Buccaneers signed WR Sterling Shepard, formerly of the Giants, to a one-year contract.

Advice: The oft-injured Shepard suited up for 15 games last season after appearing in just 10 games the previous two seasons. Unfortunately, he didn’t see many chances to contribute, running just 90 routes on the year while catching 10-of-21 targets for 57 yards and a touchdown. Shepard suffered a torn ACL in 2022 and a torn Achilles in 2021 and has dealt with a myriad of other injuries throughout his career. He now reunites with former college teammate Baker Mayfield and may offer some value as added depth if he’s able to make the 53-man roster. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:27 am
