Commish Notes

  • Here comes the big news! It's been another great season for the LOTC, and I'm excited to see who is going to be our 9th season champion. That being said, I'm looking forward to what's ahead for our 10 year anniversary next season, as well as the new league that I will be commissioning alongside the LOTC. Please visit to read all about it and to vote on ONE critical change for this league in 2012. http://realjp.us/sJh2V7 I'll be texting you all about reading it shortly. ;-)

  • Well I'm glad to see the trades picked up. Love seeing JMB play for this year, Jacob getting ready for next year, and Paul continuing to give Ben his first round picks to give him back the players he gave to Ben along with other first round picks in years past. Good action, fellas.

  • Except for the trade between Ryan and Paul, which was actually agreed upon before the draft, we have yet to see any trades during this regular season. Who's gonna mix things up?

  • Alright, it's in the planning stages right now, and I probably won't really be able to nail anything down until after October, but it looks like I'll be creating a separate 24-team league for the people who like the idea of an experimental and evolving brand of fantasy football. Because of the fact that I already have people slotted for most of the 12 new expansion teams, I would appreciate you NOT going out and recruiting new players just yet. Once we get this thing set in stone, I'll see how many openings we have left and then we can recruit from there.

Some things to note are, A) I love this league too. I always think it's perfect, and I love how competitive it is. I love that the people at the bottom are still always trying. So don't go thinking that I am dissatisfied with this league. I have no intention of neglecting it in the slightest. B) In order to encourage involvement in both leagues, I will likely drop the buy-in back to $25 next season, and do a $25 buy-in for the new league. C) I will want someone to help me manage the league history going forward. Points, records, individual opponent histories, etc. Going from 12 teams histories to 36 teams is gonna be a big jump for me to do by myself.

That's it. Now get back to worrying about this year.

  • So what I'm thinking is that when I add 12 teams, I am also going to change the way we do keepers and drafts. I want to make it an auction draft (no order, just a budget), after which every manager will designate a certain number of their draft picks (haven't decided how many) with a 3-year contract, others with a 2-year contract and all the rest are just year to year. Contract players can't be dropped until their contract expires, no matter what. After 3-year players' contracts expire, the manager will have to decide to sign them for 4 years, or to let them go as free agents. After the 2-year players' contracts expire, the manager will have to re-sign them for 3 years, or let them go as a free agent. And (in case you haven't figured out the pattern yet) all the year-to-year players can be re-signed for 2 years, or let go. Essentially, there would be no minimum or maximum number of keepers. You could keep all or none of your players, but by locking them into contracts that you can't break, the "team management" aspect becomes much more realistic.

I'm pretty set on this idea, but am open to suggestions to improve it. Let me know what you think. And I think we can all agree that if this is the direction we take, it would probably be necessary to do a re-draft.

  • leaguecrust.com is back. Looks a little bit nicer, threw together a couple garbage articles just to have something there. You can use the top menu bar to easily access the Constitution, Our League History, and to get straight to this page. I'm sure I'll keep improving it over the season, but that's how it's gonna be for at least the next couple of weeks while I work on some other projects.

  • For the next day or two, the league site (where you go to view keeper designations and league history) is no longer at leaguecrust.com. You can still get to the site by visiting http://leaguecrust.blogspot.com

  • As has been the rule ever since we implemented the Injured Reserve slot, you cannot put any player in your IR spot unless you are designating them as one of your 8 keepers. Aaron and Paul, I'm pretty sure that neither of those guys are going to be your keepers, so go ahead and drop them.

  • Now that JMB has finally joined, I will be adding everyone's keepers and setting the draft order in the next day or two. I'm excited for this season, although I will once again be strictly serving as commissioner and not competing. I should be coming back into the field of play next year, in our 10th season, which I have some really big plans for (if I can get everything in time, that is). In the meanwhile, I don't want to look past this 9th season. There are a lot of subtle changes that Yahoo has made to their fantasy football program to make the experience even better, which I appreciate, but it's still not good enough to be the permanent home for this league. Have fun this year and be ready for the draft in two Saturdays!
