  • Kamara has ‘contract-related’ absence
    NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Alvin Kamara’s departure from Saints minicamp “is contract-related.”

    Advice: This comes straight from Kamara’s agent, Brad Cicala. Kamara’s contract runs through the next two seasons and has just $1 million in guarantees remaining, likely prompting the decision. It’s worth noting that Kamara is currently set to earn just over $18 million this season, making any “contract-related” issues a bit confusing, but we’ll likely learn more about this in the coming days. The Saints can notably save more than $18 million by cutting the soon-to-be 29-year-old back after this season.   • Skips final minicamp practice
    Kamara did not participate in New Orleans' final practice of mandatory minicamp Thursday, though he was present at team facilities, Jeff Duncan of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Kamara's absence Thursday appears to be contract related, as he currently has two years remaining on his deal with the Saints. Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that while Kamara is seeking an extension with the team, not much progress has been made. The veteran running back has surpassed 1,000 yards from scrimmage in seven consecutive seasons, and his versatility remains instrumental to this offense. However, as he heads into his age-29 season, New Orleans could hesitate to re-up on a long-term commitment.   • Injured, should be ready for camp
    Coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday that Edwards (undisclosed) worked to the side with trainers during mandatory minicamp and that there's a "high possibility" he will be 100 percent healthy for the start of training camp, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

    Advice: Edwards' injury details remain undisclosed, and while it doesn't currently appear that the Chargers are seriously worried about his status, fantasy managers would certainly prefer for the 29-year-old not to be nicked up at this stage of the offseason. Harbaugh also revealed that Edwards wasn't present for voluntary OTAs. Following the departure of Austin Ekeler, Edwards appears to have a clear path to the No. 1 backfield gig to begin the 2024 season, health permitting. J.K. Dobbins, rookie sixth-rounder Kimani Vidal, and 2022 fourth-rounder Isaiah Spiller are all also options to compete for work.     Advice: This one comes as a bit of a surprise, as there seem to be no reports on what may be ailing Edwards at this time. that Edwards “has worked off to the side with trainers during minicamp, and wasn’t [present] during OTAs,” but any details of an injury have not been disclosed. Edwards, 29, is expected to open the season as the Chargers’ RB1 but could find himself in a committee with veteran J.K. Dobbins and rookie Kimani Vidal.     McClellan (foot) participated in practice Tuesday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.

    Advice: McClellan, a rookie sixth-round pick, missed roughly one month of spring activities due to a foot issue but now appears back to normal form. In that span, McClellan missed rookie minicamp and OTAs, so he may have some catching up to do in Atlanta's backfield, where Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier are entrenched atop the depth chart.   • Eagles did not violate anti-tampering policy
    The NFL reports, “After a thorough review of the Philadelphia Eagles signing of Saquon Barkley, the NFL today informed the club that the investigation did not discover sufficient evidence to support a finding that the Anti-Tampering policy was violated.”

    Advice: The Eagles were facing fines and a potential loss of future draft picks if they were found to be in violation of the anti-tampering policy. In a statement released by the league, the NFL said, “In coming to this conclusion, the league reviewed phone logs, text messages and other documents related to Philadelphia’s free agency strategy and decision to sign Barkley. The NFL also interviewed several members of the organization, including Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni, as well as Barkley and Penn State head coach James Franklin. As with every review, should new evidence be uncovered, the league may reopen the investigation.” It took nearly two months for the league to thoroughly investigate the matter, so we wouldn’t expect anything new to pop up.   • Commanders trying two-back looks in minicamp
    Washington Post’s Sam Fortier reports Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury is using two-back sets in minicamp.

    Advice: Kingsbury seems to be experimenting with using Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler in two-back sets out of the backfield. Both backs have different builds and skillsets and can be used in complementary ways. Robinson profiles more as the downhill runner while Ekeler is the pass-catcher. As it stands, Robinson is likely to be the lead back over Ekeler.   • Harbaugh: Henry will maintain heavy workload
    Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Derrick Henry will continue to have a big backfield workload in 2024.

    Advice: Asked by reporters if Henry would see similar usage to what he saw in Tennessee, Harbaugh said, “We do. I mean, I watched the wear and tear that he put on defenses” during his time with the Titans and the team intends to use the Big Dog similarly in his first year with the Ravens. Even if Henry doesn’t see the gaudy rushing attempt totals he had as a Titan, he should be a more efficient ball carrier in a Baltimore offense that ranked as one of the NFL’s best in 2023.     Kamara (ankle) participated in the initial practice of the Saints' mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.

    Advice: Kamara wasn't present for most of the team's offseason program, but his presence this week indicates he's healthy after missing Week 18 of last season due to an ankle injury. While he managed to surpass 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the seventh consecutive campaign in 2023, his 1,160 yards marked the lowest total of his career, partly due to him missing the first three games of the campaign due to a suspension. He'll again have to contend with Jamaal Williams and even Taysom Hill for short-yardage and goal-line work, but Kamara doesn't have much competition for reps otherwise.
