• Candidate for depth role
Shorter is in line to compete for depth slotting behind fellow wide receivers Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel in training camp, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

Advice: The Bills took Shorter in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he never saw game action after being placed on injured reserve ahead of the regular season on account of a hamstring injury. Though Shorter was designated to return from IR in December and resumed practicing with the team, he wasn't activated before his 21-day evaluation window closed. Now presumably past his hamstring injury, the 6-foot-4 wideout will vie with Chase Claypool, Mack Hollins, KJ Hamler, Andy Isabella and Quintez Cephus for a reserve role. Rotowire.com Today, 10:00 am

  • Joined by rookie in RB room
Achane and Raheem Mostert gained some competition for snaps via the additon of rookie Jaylen Wright in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Advice: Achane is coming off a rookie campaign in which he rushed for 800 yards and eight scores in just 11 games, while Mostert racked up 1,012 yards and an outstanding 18 touchdowns. Both should still enter the 2024 season as Miami's clear top backfield options, but Wright brings blazing speed (4.38-second 40-yard dash time) to the table, and neither Achane or Mostert boast the size to hold up to extreme workloads. While both Achane and Mostert demand double-digit touches, it's possible that the addition of Wright could represent a cap to their respective fantasy ceilings, especially if the rookie impresses enough to eventually force his way into a three-headed backfield split. • Broncos release former spring QB star DiNucci
    Broncos released QB Ben DiNucci.

Advice: DiNucci, a former XFL star, has bounced on and off the Broncos roster over the past year and a half. He’s completed 23 of 43 NFL passes for 219 scoreless yards over three regular season games. The Broncos will roll with first-rounder Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, and Jets castoff Zach Wilson in summer practices. He could end up on Denver’s practice squad this summer. Rotoworld Today, 9:05 am

  • Happy with added backfield depth
Mostert said Tuesday he's "excited" to have rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright join himself and De'Von Achane in Miami's backfield in 2024, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.

Advice: Mostert said he's "excited to have [Wright] here and try to coach him up, try to help him out within this offense." The 32-year-old Mostert and the 22-year-old Achane are clearly the top dogs of the Dolphins' rushing attack after both had extremely efficient seasons in 2023, likely leaving Wright to begin his career as a third-string option, with veteranJeff Wilson potentially on the outside looking in. Of course, neither Mostert or Achane boast ideal profiles for a heavy workload, so Wright could find himself earning opportunities earlier than usual for a No. 3 option. All three of Mostert, Achane and Wright boast atypical explosiveness, so it's possible that head coach Mike McDaniel's scheme could manage to deploy each back relatively interchangeably. • Finally gets No. 3 receiver
Tagovailoa's top wide receivers, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, will be joined in 2024 by Odell Beckham, who signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday.

Advice: Miami added offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help Tagovailoa stay upright, a key move following the departure of Robert Hunt to Carolina, but the team's only notable skill-position pickups this offseason were sixth-round wideout Malik Washington and fourth-round running back Jaylen Wright. Adding an experienced veteran in Beckham should finally provide Miami's offense with a reliable third starting wideout, something the team has lacked since head coach Mike McDaniel's arrival in 2022. As Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com notes, beyond the top tandem of Hill and Waddle, no receiver has logged more than 32 catches or 417 yards in the McDaniel era. The arrival of Beckham, and to a lesser degree, tight end Jonnu Smith, promises to finally provide Tagovailoa with more reliable playmakers beyond his top two options. Rotowire.com Today, 7:14 am

  • RapSheet: Niners want Brandon Aiyuk for long term
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the 49ers are focused on keeping Brandon Aiyuk for the long term.

Advice: Despite rampant speculation and reporting that the team had dangled Aiyuk as a trade candidate before and during the NFL Draft, Rapoport said the 49ers view Aiyuk as a “key piece” of Kyle Shanahan’s offense and have no desire to ship him to another team (it should be noted that 49ers general manager John Lynch denied reports that the team entertained a pre-draft trade of Aiyuk). Rapoport suggested Aiyuk could land a long-term deal similar to Devonta Smith, who last month signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million. It seems likely Aiyuk will remain with the Niners for at least the 2024 season. Rotoworld Today, 6:10 am

  • Giants claim QB Nathan Rourke
Giants claimed QB Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Patriots.

Advice: Rourke is a former CFL star, passing for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with the BC Lions in 2022. He signed with the Jaguars for 2023, but was released towards the end of the season. The Patriots briefly scooped up Rourke, who was the odd man out after April’s draft saw Drake Maye and Joe Milton both join the Pats. Rourke now joins Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito in the Giants’ quarterback room. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:43 pm

Pitts (undisclosed) reverted to injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: The Packers waived Pitts on Monday with an injury designation. After going unclaimed, the 24-year-old will now be forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign unless he negotiates an injury settlement with the team. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:08 pm

  • Rice under investigation for alleged assault
WFAA News reports Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is under investigation for an alleged nightclub assault.

Advice: According to Dallas police, the incident took place early Monday morning when Rice allegedly struck a photographer in a nightclub known as Lit Kitchen. We don’t know much beyond the allegations at this point, but this is now the second time this offseason that Rice has found himself involved in legal trouble. His most notable incident came in late March when he was involved in a high-speed, multi-vehicle crash that resulted in eight charges being filed against him. We’ll see what comes up with this latest allegation, but Rice continues to trend toward some kind of suspension before the start of the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:06 pm
