  • Packers promote WR Max McCaffrey
Packers signed WR Max McCaffrey from the practice squad.

Advice: It's a sign the Packers will be without one of their three injured receivers for the NFC Championship. Green Bay placed JC Tretter on IR in a corresponding move. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:07 pm

  • Christine Michael added to injury report
Packers added Christine Michael to the injury report as questionable with a back injury.

Advice: The timing suggests he suffered the injury late in the week. Michael did not touch the ball in limited snaps last week against Dallas, but his absence would still be a blow to an already banged-up offense. Ty Montgomery should dominate the backfield touches against the Falcons. Daily Slant: Montgomery had three total touches in the red zone and scored two touchdowns inside the 3-yard line against Dallas, which is an encouraging sign that he’ll continue to get the RB work in scoring position. TyMont has also become increasingly involved in the passing game - he caught six of seven targets for 34 yards last week - and Atlanta struggles to defend receiving RBs. They've allowed the most receptions (6.59), 2nd-most receiving yards (52.76), and 2nd-most receiving touchdowns (0.35) per game to the position. Montgomery is in a great spot, especially for full PPR scoring. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:33 am

  • 49ers looking at Falcons Nick Polk for GM?
Pro Football Talk believes Falcons director of football operations Nick Polk could be a candidate for the 49ers' vacant general manager position.

Advice: After both Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst decided to stay with the Packers, the 49ers have to look further down their list. Vikings assistant GM George Paton would seem to be the favorite, but it makes sense for San Francisco to find someone presumptive coach Kyle Shanahan is comfortable working with. Polk, who has been with the Falcons for 12 seasons, could be that guy. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:08 am

  • Report: 49ers may go 'hard' after Cousins
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers would go "hard" after Kirk Cousins if he is available.

Advice: Even if the Redskins hit Cousins with another franchise tag, Schefter reports the 49ers may be willing to part with a trade package that includes the No. 2 overall pick to land the quarterback. With former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan almost certain to take over as head coach, Cousins would likely be open to a move to San Francisco. There is little doubt Washington will place the exclusive franchise tag on Cousins if the two sides cannot work out a long-term deal, but even that might not be the end of the saga. • C-Patt: I felt wanted by Vikings this season
Impending free agent Cordarrelle Patterson said he felt wanted by the Vikings this season.

Advice: Patterson said he "didn't feel wanted" by Minnesota during Mike Zimmer's first two years in charge and was focused on "trying to get out." Patterson had a change of heart this season, likely in no small part because he actually had a role on offense, and now wants to stay. Price will likely determine if the Vikings feel the same way, but they should be interested in keeping around a guy who has led the league in kick return average three of the last four seasons. • Tom Brady has thrown 19 TDs, 0 INTs vs Tomlin
Tom Brady has thrown 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions in six games against the Steelers with Mike Tomlin as the head coach.

Advice: Brady has also averaged 314.8 yards per game and owns a passer rating of 127.5 in those contests. This Steelers defense is better than some of the units Brady has faced in the past, but that kind of success is at least worth noting. With both Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan likely to be higher-owned, Brady could be a somewhat sneaky option in DFS this weekend. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:37 am

  • GM 'definitely' wants to re-sign Jack Doyle
Colts GM Ryan Grigson said he "definitely" wants to re-sign impending free agent TE Jack Doyle.

Advice: This, of course, assumes Grigson will still be the general manager, but it looks like he is safe at this point. Doyle had a breakout 2016, hauling in 59 passes for 584 yards and five touchdowns. All three numbers eclipsed his career totals entering the year. Doyle is not the type of dynamic receiving threat which commands big dollars on the open market, but he should be looking for more than the three-year, $13-million deal Brent Celek landed last January. • Chiefs add 10 on reserve/future contracts
Chiefs signed WR Seantavius Jones, OG Jordan Devey, QB Joel Stave, OT Joseph Cheek, DB Jimmy Hall, DT Cory Johnson, DE David King, LB Earl Okine, DB Julian Wilson, and FB Will Ratelle to reserve/future contracts.

Advice: Jones made some noise a couple training camps ago with the Saints, but he was waived by the Chiefs before final cuts last August. He will get another shot to latch on to the bottom of the roster, but his chances are slim. Devey saw some time on the Chiefs' active roster this season after starting nine games with the 49ers in 2015. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:48 am

  • Report: Rob Kelley underwent knee surgery
Scout.com's Ben Standig reports Rob Kelley underwent surgery on his right knee following Washington's season-ending loss to the Giants.

Advice: Kelley suffered the injury in Week 16, played with a brace against the Giants, and had the knee operated on shortly after the loss. A source told Standig the surgery was "relatively minor" and "dealt with the meniscus." Kelley averaged just 3.33 yards per carry over the Redskins' final six games and showed next to no passing-game ability. He'll face competition for his starting job in 2017. • Martellus (knee) questionable for AFC title game
Martellus Bennett (knee) is questionable for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Steelers.

Advice: He was limited at practice, just as he is most weeks. Bennett tweaked his knee late in Saturday's win over Houston but should play his usual snaps in Sunday's AFC Championship. He had a very quiet game against Pittsburgh earlier this year, hauling in just one-of-two targets for five yards in Week 7. Sammy Watkins underwent foot surgery on Friday, January 20.

Advice: The Buffalo News previously reported Watkins needed more surgery, so this note is just for bookkeeping purposes. The Bills announced the procedure and claimed Watkins should be ready for training camp in 2017. Watkins has now undergone two surgeries to address a Jones fracture in his foot. Not yet 24 years old, Watkins will need to overcome repeated early-career injury setbacks in order to realize his immense NFL ceiling. Rotoworld.com Friday, 1:19 pm

  • Chris Hogan (thigh) walking with 'solid limp'
SI's Greg Bedard said he noticed Chris Hogan (thigh, questionable) had a "solid limp" in the locker room on Friday.

Advice: Hogan is fully expected to suit up for Sunday's AFC title game against Pittsburgh, but it's fair to wonder how effective he'll be playing at less than 100 percent. With Hogan banged up and Malcolm Mitchell (knee) coming off a long layoff, the Patriots may need to lean even more than usual on Julian Edelman this week. They could also use more production from Martellus Bennett. Rotoworld.com Friday, 12:43 pm

  • Dwayne Washington 'still learning how to play'
Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter said Dwayne Washington is "still learning how to play NFL football."

Advice: It comes on the heels of an up-and-down rookie year for the seventh-round pick. "I think he would maybe like some of his runs back," said Cooter. Washington saw more snaps than expected with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick on the shelf, but he was phased out down the stretch as the Lions went with Zach Zenner. • Martellus Bennett not worried about leg injury
Martellus Bennett (leg) said he'll be fine for next week's AFC Championship Game.

I'm not going to stop now," said Bennett. "I'm getting too close to what my goal is in life." Bennett has been hampered by ankle and shoulder issues throughout the year but has yet to miss a game. • Tom Brady picked off twice as Pats advance
Tom Brady completed 18-of-38 passes for 287 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Patriots' Divisional Round win over the Texans.

Advice: He took only two sacks, but got hit eight times by a talented Texans pass rush. The Patriots played up-tempo offense and attacked the Texans’ linebackers, safeties, and slot CB Kareem Jackson in pass coverage. Brady hit Dion Lewis and James White for scores, both on route concepts targeting Texans ILB Bernadrick McKinney. Between the twenties, Julian Edelman ate Jackson for lunch. Both of Brady's interceptions came off deflected passes in a fairly ugly performance despite the lopsided score (34-16). If the Patriots are going back to the Super Bowl this season, their AFC Championship Game performance will need to be quite a bit better. Rotoworld.com Jan 14, 9:22 pm

  • Martellus Bennett held to 4 yards Saturday
Martellus Bennett caught 1-of-4 targets for four yards in the Patriots' Divisional Round win over the Texans.

Advice: Bennett suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter, but jogged off and eventually came back in. Bennett just looks slow on the field at this stage of the season and hasn’t given the Patriots much in the passing game lately beyond a few red-zone scores. Bennett appeared to beat Texans ILB Bernardrick McKinney for a deep third-quarter reception, but the pass bounced out of Bennett’s hands on the way down.
