Led by a Talented WR Corps, Commissionary Will Destroy This League

Draft Summary

Some people get the first pick and promptly blow it. Not Commissionary though, they took the top pick in the draft and built a formidable fantasy squad. Their drafting skills paved the way for a projected first place finish in LECOM League with a record of 11-2-0 (2,020 points). They went after the diva position early, using three of their first five selections on WRs Antonio Brown (first round), Alshon Jeffery (third round), and Jarvis Landry (fourth round). This group will have to produce in order for Commissionary to have a good season, as they are the top group of WRs in the league.

Looks like somebody did their homework. With a draft like that, you could nominate yourself for the Toyota Hall Of Fame with your eyes closed. Go on, we dare you.

Week 8 might require some waiver-wire magic from Commissionary, as their top two projected scorers (Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger) will be off that weekend. Taking a look at the entire season from start to finish, they have one of the least challenging slates. In addition to having the second-easiest overall schedule, Commissionary also has the softest last four games of the season.

Draft Notes

  • Nearly There

The top half of the Commissionary roster is one of the strongest in the league (ranked No. 1). However, the bottom of the roster is among the weakest (ranked No. 11).

  • A Pair of Proven Winners

Commissionary has a couple of fantasy MVPs in their lineup. Last season, two of their players (Antonio Brown and Tom Brady) finished among the top-20 players that were on the most first-place fantasy teams.

  • Beginning with a Bang

Commissionary got off to a sizzling start, amassing the most projected points in the league during the first half of the draft.

  • A Target for Commissionary

The only RB to see 100+ targets last season, Woodhead concluded the season with 10 targets in each of the final two weeks of 2015.

  • A Multifaceted Machine

Woodhead is a dual-threat back for Commissionary, racking up points on the ground and through the air. He ranks first among RBs in projected receiving yards with 600.

  • A Stretch of the Imagination

Grabbing Shane Vereen at pick 145 was, let's say, conceptually adventurous. Vereen is owned on just a handful of rosters across all Yahoo! leagues.

Player Analysis

    • Antonio Brown, WR
    • Round 1, Pick 1
Death, Taxes, and Antonio Brown's Reliable Hands

Brown is projected to catch an NFL-leading 131 balls this year.

    • Alshon Jeffery, WR
    • Round 3, Pick 25
    Better Lucky Than Good?

The rest of LECOM League overlooked a gem, and Commissionary made the smartest value pick of the round by taking Alshon Jeffery.

    • Jarvis Landry, WR
    • Round 4, Pick 48
    Jumping on Jarvis:

Commissionary may see some WR1 potential in Landry, who was one of three players (along with Julio Jones and Antonio Brown) to see double-digit targets in each of the final four weeks of 2015.

    • B. Roethlisberger, QB
    • Round 5, Pick 49
    Like a Prancing Unicorn

Ben Roethlisberger is a fantasy dream. He's predicted to finish third in the NFL in passing TDs and second in passing yards.

    • J. Langford, RB
    • Round 6, Pick 72
Was the 72nd Pick the Right Time for Jeremy Langford?

Commissionary apparently believes so. The Bears' running back is projected to put up 161 points this year, after getting 137 last year.

Best Available

Commissionary has a couple positions they may look to upgrade (TE and K), but TE is the area they'll want to focus their attention first.

How We Grade

Draft grades are based strictly on teams' draft performances. This is calculated by counting the number of fantasy points teams are projected to score over the course of the season using their optimal line-ups. The grades do not take schedule into account. Because of bye weeks and other variables it is possible to earn a high grade yet be projected to finish in the middle of the pack. The opposite is also true. Bottom line: Fantasy Football is like the real game. You can draft the greatest talent in the world but you still need to manage your team every week to get the most out of that talent. As a wise man once said, "On any given Sunday..."
