  • Spencer Ware to visit Cardinals this week
Free agent RB Spencer Ware will work out for the Cardinals.

Advice: He'll be joined by former Dolphins and Eagles bruiser Jay Ajayi. The Cardinals are in search of backfield depth with David Johnson (ankle) and D.J. Foster (hamstring) both hobbled. Ware has been a free agent since the Colts released him from injured reserve last month. Rotoworld.com 53 minutes ago

  • Texans hosting ex-Steeler Eli Rogers
Free agent WR Eli Rogers will work out for the Texans.

Advice: Rogers, who was among the Steelers' final cuts this summer, worked out for Miami last month but obviously didn't end up signing there. He'd be somewhat of a redundancy with slot receivers Kenny Stills and Keke Coutee already in tow, though Stills could play outside in a pinch. The fact Houston is taking a look at Rogers suggests the Texans expect Will Fuller (hamstring) to miss time. Rotoworld.com 55 minutes ago

  • Jay Ajayi has workout scheduled with Arizona
Free agent RB Jay Ajayi will work out for the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Advice: Ajayi is over his 2018 ACL tear and will begin his free-agent tour in Arizona. The Cards are also taking a look at former Chief Spencer Ware, suggesting the team expects to be without David Johnson (who was limited to three snaps in Sunday's win over the Giants) when they visit New Orleans in Week 8. Both would be depth options behind presumed starter Chase Edmonds, who broke out for 150 yards (126 rushing, 24 receiving) and three touchdowns against the Giants. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:28 am

Advice: He played through a bruised hip in Week 6 but had last week's bye to rest. The former rushing champ, who has spent much of the past two months recovering from sports hernia surgery, is on track to make his Browns debut against Buffalo in Week 10. • Callahan confirms Keenum as Week 8 starter
Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan confirmed Case Keenum will remain the starter for Thursday night's Week 8 game against the Vikings.

Advice: "We still have a lot of faith in Case and his ability," said Callahan in the aftermath of Sunday's shutout loss to San Francisco. Keenum wasn't impressive in that game (77 yards on 9-of-12 passing), though awful weather conditions and a stout Niners defense had a lot to do with that. Dwayne Haskins' time is undoubtedly coming. • 'Real possibility' Thielen misses Week 8
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it's "hard to imagine" Adam Thielen (hamstring) playing against the Redskins in Week 8.

Advice: Thielen's hamstring injury doesn't appear to be a major setback, though he won't have much time to recover with Minnesota back to work Thursday night against the Redskins. The short turnaround obviously works against Thielen and the Vikings probably won't need him playing at home against a lesser opponent. Perhaps Thielen will receive good news from Monday's MRI but Rapoport still believes there's a "real possibility" he sits this one out. If he does, it would be his first career absence. • Report: Patriots inquired about O.J. Howard
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Patriots inquired about O.J. Howard but were told he's not available.

Advice: Howard would make an incredible amount of sense for the Patriots, who have yet to find an adequate replacement for retired tight end Rob Gronkowski. The 2017 first-rounder has yet to click in Bruce Arians' offense, but was excellent a year ago, leading the position in yards per reception (16.6) while also showing promise as a blocker. Joining forces with Tom Brady in New England would no doubt come as a major boost to Howard's stagnant fantasy stock, though unfortunately for all of us, it doesn't appear the Bucs will entertain that possibility. • Rapoport: Matt Ryan battling ankle sprain
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Matt Ryan is believed to be dealing with a sprained right ankle.

Advice: Ryan departed in a walking boot Sunday and will head for further tests Monday, which should confirm his sprained ankle. Per Rapoport, the injury is something Ryan can "manage," suggesting he could be available for Week 8. If he guts it out against the Seahawks this week, Ryan would then have the Falcons' Week 9 bye to get healthy. Journeyman Matt Schaub replaced Ryan after his exit Sunday against the Rams. • Brees on Week 8 availability: 'We'll see'
Drew Brees (thumb) plans to resume practicing this week.

Advice: Brees has resumed throwing and appears to be in the final stages of his recovery from last month's thumb surgery. The future Hall of Famer "hopes" to return against the Cardinals in Week 8 but wouldn't fully commit, telling ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett "we'll see" based on how the week unfolds. The Saints have yet to lose with Teddy Bridgewater under center (5-0) and have a bye scheduled for Week 9. Brees and fellow offensive juggernaut Alvin Kamara (ankle/knee) both appear to be eyeing Week 8 returns, though New Orleans may opt to play it safe by keeping them out through the bye week. • Report: Falcons optimistic on Ryan (ankle)
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Matt Ryan (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Monday, but that the Falcons do not believe his injury is serious.

Advice: Ryan was spotted in a walking boot, but those are often precautionary. Ryan was having a difficult time dragging himself to the locker room as he departed on Sunday. The fact that an MRI is required at all signals some degree of worry. Even if Ryan gets his expected good news, Week 8 could be a challenge, especially with the 1-6 Falcons headed on bye for Week 9. Jason Witten had four catches for 33 yards in Week 7 against the Eagles.

Advice: The Cowboys got Witten going early but he was held out of the end-zone for the fifth straight game. Advice: Goedert high-pointed a fade over Leighten Vander Esch fronm 28 yards out for the Eagles’ only touchdown. Advice: Ertz went without a target in the first half. He managed to make a pair of catches late in the game, but he was outshined by Dallas Goedert (4/69/1) in this one. Ertz will be more of a back-end TE1 for a matchup with Buffalo in Week 8. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:45 pm

Nelson Agholor caught 2-of-4 targets for 24 yards in Week 7 against the Eagles.

Advice: Agholor didn't do much despite Alshon Jeffery drawing most of the defensive attention. It was a nondescript game for the entire Eagles offense with Carson Wentz completing just 16 passes. • Thielen 'optimistic' he'll play on Thursday
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Adam Thielen (hamstring) is "optimistic" he'll play in Week 8 against Washington.

Advice: The player usually considers himself ready to play, but Monday's MRI should tell all. The Vikings have a short turnaround to get prepped for Thursday Night Football, so it's truly a question mark whether Thielen will be ready nearly 96 hours later after being unable to return with his nagging soft tissue injury from the first quarter on. • Matt Ryan (foot) spotted in walking boot
Matt Ryan (leg) was spotted in a walking boot following Sunday's loss to the Rams.

Advice: Coach Dan Quinn didn't update his quarterback's status in his post-game press conference. Ryan could put barely any weight on his right leg as he hobbled to the locker room in the fourth quarter. The Falcons host the Seahawks before heading on bye. With their season already over, there is a strong chance they get their quarterback at least one week of rest. The Falcons' entire supporting cast would be downgraded for an appetizing matchup. Case Keenum completed 9-of-12 passes for 77 yards in Week 7 against the 49ers.

Advice: This was a step back in a tough matchup for Keenum, who was sacked three times. With the Redskins offense stalling out, there was some chatter he could be pulled for Dwayne Haskins in the fourth quarter. • Matt Ryan hurt in 4th quarter of blowout loss
Matt Ryan was forced from the Falcons' Week 7 game against the Rams with a right leg injury.

Advice: Still quarterbacking with the Falcons down 27-3 in the fourth quarter, Ryan got strip sacked by Aaron Donald and came up majorly hobbled. He spent some time in the injury tent before dragging his right leg all the way to the locker room. It did not look promising. The Falcons are at home against the Seahawks in Week 8 before going on their bye. It appears Ryan might miss his first game in 153 starts. Matt Schaub, somehow, is the backup. • Thielen (hamstring) finishes with 25-yard TD
Adam Thielen hauled in one of his two targets for a 25-yard touchdown before exiting in the first half of Week 7 against the Lions.

Advice: Thielen's hamstring was injured on a diving 25-yard touchdown catch that saw Kirk Cousins nail the 29-year-old behind two defenders on a beautiful bootleg play-action toss from outside the pocket. It's unfortunate as Thielen (along with teammate Stefon Diggs) had both hit their strides from Cousins of late, seeing the former spike four touchdowns in Minnesota's past three games. • Bucs have no interest in trading O.J. Howard
Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports the Bucs won't trade O.J. Howard.

Advice: Howard hasn't been utilized in the Bucs' passing game as often as most would like but that doesn't mean the Bucs are going to be trading away their young tight end. The Bucs have team control over his contract for two or three more seasons, so there's not a lot of incentive to dish him away at the moment. • Matt Ryan has 4 TDs, ATL loses on missed XP
Matt Ryan completed 30-of-36 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns in the Falcons' Week 6 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: The Falcons were trailing for most of the game, but Ryan was orchestrating a nice comeback performance, hitting Austin Hooper, Calvin Ridley and Devonta Freeman (x2) for touchdowns. With a few minutes remaining, Ryan marched downfield for a score to set up the tie with the extra point, but Matt Bryant shanked it left. It's been a rough weekend for kickers in the state of Georgia. With the miss, the Falcons fell to 1-5, which puts a ton of pressure on Dan Quinn and the rest of the coaching staff. For fantasy purposes, Ryan is as reliable as it gets. He has 300+ yards in every game and is averaging 2.5 passing touchdowns. Ryan will be a QB1 at home next week against the Rams. • Mayfield tosses three more picks, tweaks hip
Baker Mayfield completed 22-of-37 passes for 249 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the Browns' 32-28, Week 6 loss to the Seahawks, adding four carries for 35 additional yards and a score.

Advice: Mayfield finally deep some fantasy compiling, but it was yet another shaky performance from a sophomore who was supposed to take a massive step forward. Mayfield simply never saw Tre Flowers on INT No. 1. For No. 2, Jarvis Landry got undercut in the end zone and the ball batted up into the air. For three, Mayfield threw behind Dontrel Hilliard and the ball was once again sent skyward. Throwing behind his wideouts was a common problem for Mayfield, though he was also hurt by a pure drop or two. Mayfield briefly headed to the locker room with a hip issue but didn't miss any time. Advice: Dwayne Haskins was named the backup, meaning Colt McCoy will probably be inactive. Keenum actually put together some decent fantasy performances to start the season with 300-plus yards and multiple touchdowns against the Eagles and Bears, but even a cozy matchup against the Dolphins should be approached with extreme caution.
