    • Waived by Pittsburgh
The Steelers waived Thompson (neck) on Wednesday.

Advice: Thompson appears to have recovered from the neck injury that caused him to be placed on injured reserve back in January, as he wasn't waived with an injury designation. He suited up for six contests (one start) with Pittsburgh in 2023, recording 22 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception. Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com relays that Thompson opted against undergoing offseason surgery and was able to recover from the neck injury through rest and rehab. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:57 am

    • Picked up by Dallas
Conley (ankle) signed a contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday.

Advice: Conley will link back up with an NFL roster after going unsigned since the end of the 2020 campaign. The 6-foot cornerback was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2017 Draft, but his career was partially derailed by lingering ankle injuries, which forced him to miss the entirety of the 2020 season with the Texans. Conley played 14 games between the Raiders and Texans in 2019, tallying 50 tackles and 13 passes defended, including one interception. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:49 pm

    • Minnesota bound
Redmond (undisclosed) has agreed to terms on a contract with the Vikings per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Advice: Redmond was waived with an injury settlement by the Panthers prior to the kickoff of the 2023 season. With him signing to the Vikings' roster, it appears his health is back up to par going forward. The defensive tackle will now look to earn a spot in Minnesota's defensive trenches for the upcoming season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:01 am

    • Surtain hopes to stay with the Broncos long-term
When asked about offseason trade rumors, Broncos CB Pat Surtain II said he hopes to remain with the team long-term.

Advice: Surtain is entering his fourth season as a pro and is coming off arguably his worst year. The former No. 9 overall pick earned a PFF coverage grade of 64.7 last season while allowing 56 receptions for 701 yards and three touchdowns. It was the most receptions and yards he had ever allowed in a season, while opposing quarterbacks also enjoyed a 93.9 passer rating when targeting the Broncos’ CB1. The bill will soon come due for Surtain, who had his fifth-year option picked up earlier this offseason. While it’s possible he will play out this season without an extension, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him ink a new deal next offseason if the Broncos view him as part of their long-term plans. • Isaiah Buggs arrested on domestic violence charges
Chiefs DL Isaiah Buggs was arrested and booked on domestic violence and burglary charges on Sunday.

Advice: Buggs has been arrested twice in less than a month after misdemeanor charges were filed against him on May 29 for cruelty to dogs in the second degree. According to an article by ESPN, Buggs was booked into the Tuscaloosa County jail and later released on a $5,000 bond. Buggs appeared in 10 games last season for the Lions and was signed to the Chiefs practice squad in January 2024, shortly after the Lions released him. We don’t know much about this incident outside of Buggs’ arrest and release, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs cut ties with him in the coming days given the recent string of events. • Heyward reiterates desire to remain with Steelers
Cam Heyward posted to his social media account that, “The goal is to be a Steeler” for the rest of his career.

Advice: Currently in search of a new contract from the Steelers, Heyward said last week that he and his wife had discussed the possibility of needing to play elsewhere if he doesn’t re-sign with the Steelers beyond this season. Heyward, 35, appeared in 11 games for the Steelers last season, totaling two sacks and six TFLs. He combined for 20.5 sacks and 29 TFLs from 2021-2022, but he’s well past the age where we begin to see players decline. Heyward skipped OTAs but was present at minicamp, so we wouldn’t expect a holdout when training camp ramps up next month. With that said, we could be looking at the final season in Pittsburgh for a player who has long been a staple along the Steelers’ defensive interior. Rotoworld Jun 16, 12:51 pm

    • Stephon Gilmore: ‘Being patient right now’
Free agent CB Stephon Gilmore told reporters he is “just being patient and waiting for the right opportunity.”

Advice: The 12-year veteran cornerback started all 17 games for the Cowboys in 2023 but was not re-signed following the season. Gilmore is not short on accomplishments during his illustrious career, having earned five Pro Bowl nods, two All-Pro honors, and a defensive player of the year award and even received above average grades across the board from PFF in his 12th season last year. Even so, Gilmore is likely looking at a veteran minimum contract at this point in the offseason unless he waits for injuries to start piling up once the season begins. Rotoworld Jun 15, 1:32 pm

    • Entering important third season
Elam received extra reps throughout the spring due to veteran Rasul Douglas missing the voluntary OTA sessions, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Advice: Elam hasn't quite panned out yet as a first-round draft choice from 2022, but all the talk around the Bills this offseason seems to indicate the team is going to give him a fair crack at playing time in 2024. He's currently listed as a backup behind Douglas (who did show up for all non-voluntary work) and holdover Christian Benford, but with Tre'Davious White departing to the Rams, there's a real chance for Elam to see meaningful playing time, whether as a key backup or even sneaking his way into a starter's role. • Returning to NFL with Chargers
The Chargers signed Jefferson to a contract Friday.

Advice: Jefferson spent last season working as a scouting intern with the Ravens, but he is coming out of retirement to get back on the field. The defensive back last played for the Giants in 2022, when he recorded 23 tackles (16 solo) and one defensed pass over nine contests. Jefferson isn't guaranteed to make Los Angeles' roster, but he'll have a chance to compete during training camp for what would likely be a depth role in the team's secondary.
