Loaded With Cowboys, Team RAMROD Should Have Attempted to Draft Players That are Good

Draft Summary

Entering the draft with the fifth overall pick, the expectations were high for Team RAMROD. Then they drafted. Those expectations quickly vanished with a projected 10th-place finish in Yahoo Public 631214 League at 2-12-0 (1,430 points). They ensured WR depth would be a non-issue, as they have four WRs on the roster. However, production might be the problem. Their receivers are projected to average 124 points this year, fewer than the league average of 144. They also built the lowest-scoring group of WRs in the league, as they have Julian Edelman, Michael Floyd, DeSean Jackson, and Pierre Garcon on their team.

Yikes. At least it can't get any worse. In fact, if you nominate yourself for the Toyota Hall Of Fame, you'll be an official nominee. Feel better?

Week 9 is not looking like a fun one for fantasy football. Team RAMROD should look into the joys of scrapbooking, or bird-watching, or just anything that isn't fantasy football. It might not be pretty. They have seven players and the most projected fantasy points on bye that week. Based on their opponents' projected points, they have a harder-than-average schedule. Despite having the fourth-most grueling overall schedule, Team RAMROD actually has the second-easiest first four games of the season.

Draft Notes

  • Banking on Big D

The fantasy hopes of Team RAMROD rest heavily on the fortunes of Jerry Jones and crew, as they have four Cowboys on their roster.

  • Great Idea, Poor Execution

Team RAMROD will definitely need assistance from the waiver wire in Week 9, as their four WRs with the most projected seasonal points (Julian Edelman, Michael Floyd, DeSean Jackson, and Pierre Garcon) will all be on bye that week.

  • Like 10,000 Spoons When All You Need Is A Knife

Team RAMROD's only above-average positional grouping is K.

  • Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

At three different positions, Team RAMROD picked up projected top-two players (Russell Wilson, Ezekiel Elliott, and Stephen Gostkowski).

  • Afraid to Step Outside Your Comfort Zone?

With six "low-risk" players among their 15 picks, Team RAMROD is looking for dependable help.

  • Fantasy FĂștbol

This is the American version, folks. Team RAMROD elected to go with two kickers, rather than adding depth at other positions.

Player Analysis

    • E. Elliott, RB
    • Round 1, Pick 5
    Elliott is Hungry

And he'll get plenty of chances to feast this season, projected to rank third in the NFL with 321 touches.

    • Russell Wilson, QB
    • Round 2, Pick 16
Russell Wilson Likes His Eggs Scrambled

And a little runny, eh? Wilson is projected to deliver 476 rushing yards, and ranks third among QBs in that category.

    • Julian Edelman, WR
    • Round 3, Pick 25
    The Power of Persuasion

Now would be a reasonable time for Team RAMROD to encourage the Yahoo Public 631214 League to increase the value of receptions. They grabbed Julian Edelman and his 91 projected catches (ranked eighth in the NFL).

    • S. Gostkowski, K
    • Round 4, Pick 36
    Better Lucky Than Good?

The rest of Yahoo Public 631214 League overlooked a gem, and Team RAMROD made the smartest value pick of the round by taking Stephen Gostkowski.

    • Dallas, DEF
    • Round 5, Pick 45
Don't Get Too Defensive Over This

But Team RAMROD drafted Dallas with the 45th pick, even though their ADP is only 120 across all Yahoo! leagues.

How We Grade

Draft grades are based strictly on teams' draft performances. This is calculated by counting the number of fantasy points teams are projected to score over the course of the season using their optimal line-ups. The grades do not take schedule into account. Because of bye weeks and other variables it is possible to earn a high grade yet be projected to finish in the middle of the pack. The opposite is also true. Bottom line: Fantasy Football is like the real game. You can draft the greatest talent in the world but you still need to manage your team every week to get the most out of that talent. As a wise man once said, "On any given Sunday..."
