  • Report: 'False' Kap wants $9-$10M per season
Profootballtalk reports it's "completely false" that free agent Colin Kaepernick is seeking $9-$10 million per season.

Advice: Mike Florio's report is via a "source with knowledge of the situation." We buy it. A quarterback coming off multiple benchings and controversies still languishing on the open market three weeks into free agency probably knows he's not going to fetch that kind of money. Kap doesn't seem any closer to finding a new home than he did at the start of free agency. Rotoworld.com Today, 11:05 am

  • DeMarco Murray still the Titans' 'workhorse'
Titans coach Mike Mularkey reiterated on Tuesday that DeMarco Murray remains the team's "workhorse."

Advice: Mularkey said the same thing last month. It stands to reason that sophomore Derrick Henry will get more opportunities following an impressive rookie campaign, but at least to begin the year, the Titans will attempt to maintain the status quo. Headed into his age-29 season, Murray faded down the stretch in 2016. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:51 am

  • Witten's contract includes no new gtd. money
Jason Witten's new five-year deal is worth $29.6 million, but includes no new guaranteed money.

Advice: In other words, it's mostly a salary cap contortion that lowers Witten's 2017 cap number and takes care of his 2018 "will he or won't he return to the Cowboys?" status ahead of time. Going on 35, Witten's career is on a year-by-year basis at this point. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:46 am

  • McDermott thinks No. 2 receiver on roster
Bills coach Sean McDermott believes the team's No. 2 receiver is on the roster right now.

Advice: "Who that is remains to be seen," McDermott added. Considering how difficult it was to find someone other than Sammy Watkins to put this comment under, "who that is" is certainly a mystery. Buffalo did add Andre Holmes and Corey Brown in free agency, but neither is a real No. 2 on a quality offense. The Bills have to find more weapons for Tyrod Taylor in the draft. • Pagano: Adding a young runner is 'paramount'
Colts coach Chuck Pagano said adding a young runner is "paramount."

Advice: Frank Gore remained reasonably effective last season, but he will turn 34 in May and is clearly trending downward. Indy did re-sign Robert Turbin earlier this month, but they need to look toward the future at the position. It will not be surprising if the Colts spend an early pick on a running back. • Ravens would be interested in Anquan Boldin
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he would be interested in bringing back free agent Anquan Boldin.

Advice: "I do believe he can still play at the highest level," Harbaugh said. Boldin played for the Ravens from 2010-12 and would fill their need for a possession receiver. The veteran will return for his 15th season, but he is not expected to sign until closer to training camp. Boldin caught 67 passes for 584 yards (8.7 YPR) and eight scores with the Lions last season. • Harbaugh: Terrance West No. 1 running back
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Terrance West is currently the No. 1 running back on the depth chart.

Advice: That could certainly change during the offseason, but it is a reminder West is likely to retain a role in Baltimore's backfield, especially with Kenneth Dixon suspended for the first four games. West rushed 193 times for 774 yards (4 YPC) and five touchdowns last season. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:31 am

  • Witten signs 4-year extension through 2021
Cowboys signed Jason Witten to a four-year extension through 2021.

Advice: It is a shock both because EVP Stephen Jones said there were no plans to extend Witten exactly a month ago and the extension keeps him under contract through his age-39 season. The deal likely will lower his $12.262 million cap hit this year, however, and the length of the contract should keep his cap number down for the next several seasons. Witten should become the franchise leader in receiving yards this year. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:20 am

  • Ben Watson (Achilles') ahead of schedule
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said TE Ben Watson (Achilles') is ahead of schedule.

Advice: Watson tore his Achilles' last August. If he is ahead of schedule, Watson should be ready for training camp, but it will not be surprising if a 36-year-old struggles in his return from a serious injury. It is possible Watson and Dennis Pitta are competing for one roster spot. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:57 am

  • Vance Joseph: Tony Romo is a non-issue
Broncos coach Vance Joseph said Tony Romo "is a non-issue."

Advice: "We haven't had one meeting about Romo," Joseph added. Advice: "As far as I know, he's been doing everything he can do," Gase added. "I'm expecting him to look pretty close to how he did when he got injured." This matches a February report from The Miami Herald which said Tannehill is "healed" and will be ready for the offseason program. Gase also said he has not been told Tannehill needs to change the way he plays or run less, which is great news for his fantasy value moving forward. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:25 am

  • Bowles says there will be QB competition
Jets coach Todd Bowles said there will be an open competition at quarterback.

Advice: Bowles said Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenberg will all get their chance to win the starting job. The coach also did not rule out the possibility of a rookie being added to the mix. McCown is the favorite to win any competition, but he has not been able to stay healthy the last several years. • Dolphins believe Carroo can bounce back
The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports the Dolphins believe 2016 third-rounder Leonte Carroo can bounce back in 2017.

Advice: Carroo only managed three catches as a rookie and ended the season as a healthy scratch amid concerns about his practice habits and work ethic. Salguero reports coach Adam Gase has told his coaches he finally knows how to use Carroo, however, and is optimistic he can get the most out of the receiver. Perhaps that is true, but Carroo is not going to be a fantasy factor as long as Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, and DeVante Parker are healthy. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:13 am

  • 'Strong belief' Cutler will not play in 2017
WGN Radio's Adam Hoge reports there is a "strong belief" at the Annual League Meeting that free agent Jay Cutler will not play in 2017.

Advice: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in February there is "no guarantee" Cutler plays in 2017, and it seems like NFL teams have been given that impression as well. This is surprising on the surface, but Cutler will be 34 in April and has been banged up the last several seasons. That said, he was scheduled to meet with the Jets before New York signed Josh McCown, so it is likely he is willing to play if given a real shot at a starting job. As of now, that shot does not seem to be forthcoming. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:00 am

Advice: Forced to use a scooter to get around just a month ago, Mariota seems to be progressing quickly in his recovery from a broken fibula. "This process has been really good," Mariota said. • Former Bucs GM compares Glennon to Flacco
Former Bucs GM and current ESPN NFL Insider Mark Dominik believes Mike Glennon can be "Joe Flacco-esque or better."

Advice: A quarterback can be better than elite? "I believe Glennon is one of those quarterbacks like a Joe Flacco," Dominik said. "There will be moments when he can play really well, and sometimes maybe it’s an 8-8 season." Dominik, who spent a third-round pick on Glennon in 2013, also praised the quarterback's leadership, work ethic, and arm strength. After signing him to low-end starter money, the Bears would be ecstatic if Glennon developed into a Flacco-caliber starter. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:21 am

  • Colin Kaepernick wants a chance to start
ESPN's Dan Graziano reports Colin Kaepernick is looking for a team which "offers him a chance to compete for a starting job."

Advice: Graziano adds Kap is looking for "something like $9 million to $10 million" per year. There are not many teams with starting jobs available, and that list grows even smaller when the 49ers, his former team, are removed from the equation. Perhaps he will get a look from the Browns or Texans once the Tony Romo and Jimmy Garoppolo sagas mercifully come to an end, but Kaepernick might need to lower his asking price and expectations to land a job. • RapSheet: Romo saga not over 'any time soon'
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the saga surrounding Tony Romo "isn't ending any time soon."

Advice: RapSheet reports the Cowboys could keep Romo on the roster even once the draft is over. Since there is no financial deadline to release Romo, it makes sense for Dallas to hold the quarterback through the draft in an effort to call the Texans' bluff, but keeping him on the roster once the offseason program begins could lead to an uncomfortable situation. With the Broncos seemingly out of the running and the Texans looking unlikely to blink, release remains the most likely outcome. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 3:35 pm

The Denver Channel's Troy Renck believes the Broncos "haven’t closed the door" on Tony Romo.

  • Tony Romo's 2017 plans: Texans or retirement
According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Tony Romo believes his options for 2017 are retiring or playing for the Texans.

Advice: Darlington said the Broncos haven't "closed the door" on Romo but aren't actively pursuing him. Romo ending up in Houston seemed like a forgone conclusion two weeks ago when the Texans traded Brock Osweiler to Cleveland, but no progress has been made since then. With Romo still stranded in Dallas for the time being, it's possible he could leave to pursue a career in broadcasting. Romo has already been offered gigs with Fox Sports and CBS. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Tony Romo is drawing interest as a television analyst for Fox Sports and CBS.

Advice: Sports Illustrated's Peter King hinted that Romo turned down a "very good" television offer a few weeks ago. The Cowboys are still holding out hope of trading Romo, though the Broncos and Texans seem to have called their bluff. • Jets GM won't commit to McCown as starter
Jets GM Mike Maccagnan wouldn't commit to Josh McCown as the team's starting quarterback.

Advice: Maccagnan said that decision will be made by coach Todd Bowles. He added that it's "highly unlikely" the Jets will add another quarterback in free agency but acknowledged that drafting one is a possibility. McCown is still the odds-on favorite to start but it's a near certainty that his body will break down at some point. • Report: Cutler was scheduled to visit Jets
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent Jay Cutler was scheduled to visit the Jets this week.

Advice: He "was scheduled" because the Jets gave Josh McCown $6 million guaranteed on a one-year deal presumably to be their starter. With New York out of the running, the Texans would be an interesting landing spot if they miss out on Tony Romo, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Houston is not an option. With the music nearing its coda, Cutler is in danger of being left without a chair. Rotoworld.com Monday, 4:39 pm

  • Jets find stopgap option, sign Josh McCown
Jets signed QB Josh McCown, formerly of the Browns, to a one-year, $6-million contract.

Advice: The $6 million is fully guaranteed, and he can earn an additional $7 million in playtime and team-based incentives. Set to turn 38 in July, McCown is the definition of a stopgap option who the Jets will hope can give them competent quarterback play while they revamp their quarterback room. Unfortunately, McCown seems to get hurt every time he touches the field at this point in his career, making it very unlikely he lasts a full season. Unless they are content to watch Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty start multiple games, the Jets still have some work to do. Rotoworld.com Monday, 4:08 pm

  • Carroo not expected to see expanded role
The Miami Herald does not expect 2016 third-round pick Leonte Carroo's role to change as a sophomore.

Advice: Carroo logged just 103 snaps as a rookie, and was passed by Rashawn Scott late in the year. The return of Kenny Stills limits Carroo to fourth receiver duties entering 2017. "We’ve just got to keep bringing him along," coach Adam Gase said of Carroo. "When you’re trying to figure a guy out that’s not in your top three it’s not always as easy as you’d think. The longer I’d been around him the more we’ve kind of figured out how we need to use him. He’s done a good job trying to figure out his role on special teams." Rotoworld.com Mar 19, 7:17 pm

  • King says Cowboys 'willing to wait' on Romo
Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Sports Illustrated's Peter King said he believes the Cowboys are "willing to wait" on Tony Romo.

Advice: It's somewhat stunning that Romo hasn't been released yet, but as King notes, there's no urgency to move him with OTAs still over four weeks away. The Broncos don't seem to be taking the bait, so for now it looks like the Cowboys are trying to goad the Texans into making a trade. King also mentioned that Romo turned down a "very good job" three weeks ago. While King didn't explicitly say what it was, he strongly hinted the offer was for a job in television. Bills signed WR Andre Holmes a three-year, $6.5 million contract.

Advice: It's $2 million higher than the deal reported earlier this week. SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports Josh McCown's visit with the Jets is "going very well" and the two sides have "discussed contract parameters."

Advice: It seems each side is serious about a deal. In theory, McCown is a good stop-gap option and mentor as the Jets attempt to develop Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, but McCown has not lasted more than a few games before getting hurt the last couple years.
