• Another stop: 49ers sign QB Joshua Dobbs
49ers signed QB Joshua Dobbs to a one-year contract.

Advice: The four-year veteran joins his fifth NFL franchise and should immediately become the primary backup behind quarterback Brock Purdy in San Francisco. Another wonderlic test standout, Dobbs should make any transition at quarterback less involved for the 49ers should Purdy miss any time in 2024. That said, Dobbs displayed issues with ball security with the Vikings and Cardinals last season, something that likely kept him from earning a starting gig with another team this offseason. • Finds work in San Francisco
The 49ers and Dobbs agreed to a contract Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Advice: In 13 games (12 starts) between the Cardinals and Vikings this past season, Dobbs completed 262 of 417 (62.8 percent) of his passes for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also was viable as a runner, averaging 5.5 yards on his 77 carries while scoring six TDs on the ground. Brock Purdy is the unquestioned starting quarterback for San Francisco, but Dobbs' recent on-field work should give him a leg up on the backup job ahead of holdover Brandon Allen. • Remaining with Dallas
Dowdle is set to re-sign with the Cowboys, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Following the free-agent departure of Tony Pollard, Dowdle is poised to reclaim his role in a Dallas backfield that also currently includes Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis and Snoop Conner. Chances are, the Cowboys will add further RB depth via free agency or the draft, so until the team's personnel at the position is settled, Dowdle's fantasy upside for the 2024 season will be difficult to gauge. • Rico Dowdle returning to Cowboys next season
Cowboys agreed to terms with RB Rico Dowdle.

Advice: We’re less than a week into the new league year, but Dowdle’s return could prove important for fantasy purposes. While it’s possible the Cowboys will use an early pick on a running back in the draft, the free agent market has already seen its top players sign with new teams. Dowdle, who totaled 505 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns as Tony Pollard’s backup, could be asked to play a larger role in 2024. It’s too early to suggest Dowdle would be anything more than a fringe RB3/RB4 at this point, but his ability to work on early downs and passing downs would make him an interesting option late in drafts if the Cowboys don’t add any running backs of note. • Set to join Las Vegas backfield
Mattison is in line to sign with the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Advice: In 16 games for the Vikings during the 2023 regular season, Mattison had 180 carries for 700 yards and caught 30 of his 44 targets for 192 yards and three receiving TDs. With the Raiders, Mattison -- who turns 26 in June -- is slated to provide the team with needed backfield depth and a complementary option alongside 2022 fourth-rounder Zamir White following the free-agent departure of Josh Jacobs. Assuming White serves as Las Vegas' top RB option, Mattison's weekly upside will be modest, but if White is injured or struggles at all as the 2024 season progresses, Mattison could reenter the fantasy lineup equation. • Raiders add Alexander Mattison to backfield
Raiders agreed to terms with RB Alexander Mattison, formerly of the Vikings.

Advice: Mattison’s visit with the Raiders apparently went well, as the two sides are reportedly set to join forces for this season. Mattison rushed for 700 scoreless yards last season, but the real winner in this deal may be Zamir White. Josh Jacobs is in Green Bay, and while Mattison has proven to be a solid backup, he shouldn’t threaten White for significant touches. Assuming the Raiders don’t invest major draft capital at running back, White will have high-end RB2 upside, with Mattison serving as his handcuff. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

  • Schultz: Alexander Mattison visiting with Raiders
Bleacher Reports Jordan Schultz reports free agent RB Alexander Mattison is meeting with the Raiders.

Advice: The Raiders need a backup behind Zamir White, which is a role Mattison should have no trouble occupying. His lone season as a starter didn’t go well last season, as the five-year vet rushed for 700 scoreless yards while averaging 3.9 YPC and added another 30-192-3 through the air. Mattison hasn’t averaged more than 3.9 YPC in any of his last three seasons but has proven serviceable as a backup when needed. Schultz said “multiple teams” are in play for Mattison’s services, so it’s possible we learn of more visits before he finds a new home. Rotoworld Today, 8:15 am

  • RapSheet: Jaguars to sign K Joey Slye
Jaguars agreed to terms with K Joey Slye, formerly of the Commanders, on a one-year contract.

Advice: Slye spent almost three full seasons with the Commanders and converted on 84.8 percent of his field goal attempts over that span while nailing 8-of-12 kicks from 50-plus yards. The five-year vet now has a chance to continue his career with the Jaguars after the Commanders went out and signed Brandon McManus last week. Slye converted on 79.2 percent of his field goal attempts last season, although poor performances by his long snapper likely contributed to a few of those misses. Rotoworld Today, 7:08 am

  • Says goodbye to Baltimore
Beckham posted a goodbye message to Baltimore and Ravens fans on Instagram this Sunday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: The implication is that Beckham will find a new team rather than re-sign with the Ravens. He was reasonably productive on a per-snap basis in his one year with the team -- his 2.03 yards per route ranked 26th among WRs with at least 200 routes -- but he never reached 60 percent snap share in a game after Week 1 and had only 34 yards in two playoff appearances. The 31-year-old may end up in a part-time role again in 2024, though it's also possible a new team would see if he can hold up to a typical starter's workload. Rotowire.com Today, 7:00 am
