• Recovery going well
Knight (shoulder) has been a limited participant in Lions' OTAs, Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: Knight sustained a torn labrum and missed the Lions' final 12 games in 2023, but he's been cleared for seven-on-seven and light team work as of last week. The 23-year-old running back has also been ramping up his workload in hopes of returning for Detroit's mandatory minicamp. Once Knight is back at full health, he's expected to compete for a depth spot in the Lions' backfield ahead of the 2024 season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:38 pm

  • Elijah Mitchell remains ‘clear No. 2' RB for 49ers
The Athletic’s David Lombardi says Elijah Mitchell is the “clear No. 2" running back behind Christian McCaffrey.

Advice: This is based on Lombardi’s observations from OTAs and minicamp, but it sounds like Mitchell continues to have the inside edge as the RB2 behind fantasy football’s most valuable player. As Lombardi points out, the key to Mitchell offering any sort of contribution is his health, as the fourth-year vet has appeared in just 27 games during his first three seasons. Mitchell saw limited action last season, rushing 75 times for 281 yards and two touchdowns, with most of that production coming in the final two weeks of the regular season. He remains a high-end stash behind CMC but has little to no standalone value as long as McCaffrey is healthy. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:24 am

  • Hull suffered ‘root tear’ of meniscus last year
The Indy Star’s Joel A. Erickson reports Colts RB Evan Hull suffered a “root tear” of his meniscus last season.

Advice: We knew Hull suffered a season-ending knee injury during Week 1 of last season but never knew the specifics of the injury. Per Erickson, a “root tear” of the meniscus is “a tear at the spot where the meniscus attaches to the bone,” which is “a far more serious injury than a typical tear to the body of the meniscus.” Erickson adds that a normal tear may have only cost Hull half of the season but that the second-year running back spent eight weeks on crutches last season. In fact, Hull wasn’t cleared to return to full football activities until a few weeks before OTAs. Last season, Hull was a favorite late-round target by Zero RB drafters. Now, he’s expected to compete with Trey Sermon for RB2 duties behind Jonathan Taylor, with Sermon seemingly having the inside edge on the competition thus far. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:35 am

  • Taking part in OTAs
Strong (back) was spotted participating in Wednesday's practice, Joshua Gunter of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Advice: Strong was inactive for Browns' wild-card loss to the Texans in January, but the back issue that prevented him from playing in the postseason looks to be well behind him at this point. After Cleveland added D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines this offseason to a backfield that already includes Nick Chubb (knee) and Jerome Ford, Strong may be on the roster bubble heading into the 2024 season. • Tumbling down depth chart
Abanikanda appears to have fallen down the Jets' backfield depth chart this offseason, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Jets used fourth- and fifth-round picks on Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, respectively, back in April, and both have reportedly stood out in offseason practices and taken reps with the first-team offense in the absence of lead back Breece Hall (lower body). Abanikanda drew some summer hype as a rookie in 2023 but ultimately carried the ball 22 times for just 70 yards (3.2 YPC). A fifth-round pick himself, Abanikanda could be on the roster bubble heading into the 2024 campaign. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:14 pm
