• Dealing with heel injury
Sanders sat out minicamp practice Tuesday with a heel injury, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Obeserver reports.

Advice: Coach Dave Canales said Sanders had something "flare up" with his heel, and he's missing practice time this week. Overall, it doesn't sound like a serious issue for Sanders, but he's missing valuable reps with a new coaching staff, especially after the Panthers drafted Jonathon Brooks in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to join Chuba Hubbard atop the depth chart. Sanders looks like he's going to head into training camp no higher than third on the depth chart, and his inability to play special teams would make him a tough player to have active on game days if that's the case. • Returns to field
Haskins (undisclosed) has participated in OTAs, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Advice: Haskins spent all of 2023 on IR with an unknown injury, but he appears to be healthy and recovered now. The Michigan product will likely be battling Julius Chestnut for No. 3 running back duties behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears leading up to the start of the 2024 campaign. • Christian McCaffrey signs extension with 49ers
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the 49ers have re-signed Christian McCaffrey to a two-year extension averaging $19 million per season.

Advice: This is a surprise to no one as the soon-to-be 28-year old McCaffrey has continued to pace the running back position in the NFL. The deal includes $24 million guaranteed over the next two seasons and includes an additional $8 million on what he was scheduled to make in the first two years. McCaffrey is coming off a season in which he won Offensive Player of the Year while earning his first rushing title. He was set to be a free agent after the 2025 season, so this ensures the 49ers will have their guy for the future. The new contract only strengthens what was already known, CMC is the consensus number one overall pick in fantasy football for 2024. Rotoworld Today, 10:38 am

  • Lands two-year, $38M extension
The 49ers signed McCaffrey to a two-year, $38 million contract extension Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: CMC's deal was set to run through 2025, and he's getting an additional $8 million up front before this two-year extension kicks in and runs through 2027. The $19 million annual average makes McCaffrey the NFL's highest-paid running back, a distinction he'd already held at just over $16 million per year. This further sets him apart from Alvin Kamara ($15 million) and Jonathan Taylor ($14 million) at the top of the position. McCaffrey was named the AP Offensive Player of the Year last season and finished third in MVP voting after finishing with 2,023 total yards and 21 touchdowns across 16 regular-season contests. McCaffrey turns 28 years old later this week. Rotowire.com Today, 10:31 am

  • Mike McCarthy plans to use ‘two or three’ RBs
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the team would use “two or three [running backs], whatever it takes” in 2024.

Advice: McCarthy noted the rise of split backfields in the modern NFL and said the Cowboys — who last season had the league’s fourth highest pass rate over expected — would divvy up backfield touches among Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and a yet-to-be-named third running back. Royce Freeman would be the likeliest third option behind Elliott and Dowdle. Zeke would be the odds-on favorite to get goal line work, though Dowdle could split the pass-catching role going into the regular season. Rotoworld Today, 9:52 am

  • Limited to side work
Hall is working off to the side at Tuesday's practice, with coach Robert Saleh telling reporters the running back is "dealing with some lower half stuff," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Hall was first spotted with the Jets' rehab group last Wednesday and is now confirmed to be dealing with a minor injury. It doesn't sound like anything that will still be an issue when the Jets start training camp in late July, but it's possible Hall is limited or absent during mandatory minicamp June 11-13. Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Israel Abanikanda and Tarik Cohen are all candidates to take first-team RB reps while Hall isn't practicing. Rotowire.com Today, 7:52 am

  • Back from injury
Chestnut (hamstring) participated in OTAs in May.

Advice: The running back spent most of 2023 on injured reserve, playing in only three games. Chestnut participated in six contests as a rookie the year before. Now that he's back, he'll get to compete for a role in the backfield behind free-agent signee Tony Pollard. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:28 pm

  • Bijan says Falcons will use him like 49ers use CMC
Bijan Robinson said the Falcons offense will be more “run first, like how they use Christian [McCaffrey] down there in San Francisco.”

Advice: Robinson said he’s still expected to do plenty as a pass-catcher, but it’s not surprising to hear that an Atlanta staff that has ties to the Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay coaching trees would be looking to operate in a similar fashion — especially with a back as talented as Robinson. The Falcons took an extremely run-heavy approach in 2023 under former head coach Arthur Smith, ranking 30th in early down pass rate while boasting a pass rate over expected of negative nine percent. While we wouldn’t expect those numbers to be replicated in 2024, especially with Kirk Cousins under center, it sounds like the Falcons plan to emphasize the rushing attack in hopes of keeping the offense on schedule and giving them short fields to convert first downs and keep the chains moving. Robinson totaled 1,463 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns as a rookie and is expected to take a big step this season in what should be a much-improved Falcons offense. • Participating in OTAs
Robinson (ankle) participated in Monday's OTA, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Robinson suffered an ankle injury during OTAs last month, but the running back's participation Monday indicates that it was a minor issue. As the 2024 season approaches, Robinson profiles as the lead option in an Atlanta backfield that also includes returnees Tyler Allgeier and Avery Williams, along with rookie sixth-rounder Jase McClellan (foot). In his first pro campaign, Robinson, who was the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, recorded 214 carries for 976 yards and four TDs as well as 58 catches for 487 yards and four receiving scores in 17 games. His fantasy upside in 2024 is largely tied to how much work he yields to Allgeier, who logged 186 carries last season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:00 am
