• Steelers hosting Chiefs on Christmas
The Steelers will host the Chiefs on Christmas Day.

Advice: The two-time Super Bowl champions will head to Pittsburgh to play in a Christmas game broadcast on Netflix. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs contingent will be competing for one of the top seeds in the AFC at this time while the Steelers may be competing for a playoff spot. At this point of the season, the Steelers will have a large sample size to judge their quarterback room and either Justin Fields will have taken over or Russell Wilson will be holding down the fort. With the other Christmas game being Ravens-Texans, this day looks to have massive playoff implications in the AFC. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:13 pm

  • Lions to host Rams for SNF Week 1
The Rams will play the Lions in Detroit on Sunday Night Football in Week 1.

Advice: Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford heads back to his former home while Lions quarterback Jared Goff hosts his former team after freshly signing a four-year, $212 million contract extension. This will be a rematch of last season’s Wild Card game, where the Lions bested the Rams 24-23. Goff and Stafford were dealt for each other in 2021, with the Rams winning a Super Bowl and the Lions making it to the Conference Championship since then. This game will kick off Sunday Night Football for the season and will feature many fantasy-relevant players, including top receivers Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. • Commanders sign WR Damiere Byrd
Commanders signed WR Damiere Byrd, formerly of the Falcons, to a one-year contract.

Advice: Byrd had a cup of coffee on the Texans’ practice squad at the end of the 2023 season but saw his only action while on the Falcons last year. He appeared in one game and logged 18 snaps on offense. Byrd was a rotational receiver for Atlanta in 2022, totaling 268 yards and two scores across 14 games. Byrd’s previous experience as a kick and punt returner could be useful to the Commanders, though he is still a long-shot to make the team. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:37 pm

  • Derek Carr, Saints to face Raiders in Week 17
The Saints will play the Raiders in Week 17.

Advice: Carr, who quarterbacked the Raiders from 2014 to 2022, will get a matchup against his former team on the second to last week of the regular season (and the final week of the fantasy football playoffs). Carr in 2023 threw for 3,888 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his first season as Saints quarterback. His adjusted yards per attempt (7.3) was slightly above his career mark of 7.1. Neither the Saints nor the Raiders have a great chance to compete for a postseason berth in the season’s penultimate week. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:46 am

  • Texans get Christmas Day rematch against Ravens
The Texans will play the Ravens on Christmas Day.

Advice: C.J. Stroud and the upstart Texans will get a rematch against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens as part of a three-game Christmas Day slate available on Netflix for the first time. Houston’s 2023 season ended with a Divisional Round loss to the Ravens — a 34-10 Baltimore win in which Stroud and the Texans offense were held scoreless in the second half. Stroud threw for a scoreless 175 yards on 33 attempts against a locked-in Ravens secondary on a frigid night. The Texans and Ravens should be jostling for postseason positioning by late December. • Packers, Dolphins to play on Thanksgiving night
The Dolphins will host the Packers on Thanksgiving night.

Advice: The league appears very much willing to feature Jordan Love as a main attraction in 2024 after his outstanding 2023 campaign in which Love established himself as the latest in a line of long-term Green Bay QBs. The Packers will open the season against the Eagles in Brazil. Love and the Packers will take on Tua Tagovailoa in a primetime matchup on Thanksgiving night — a game that will feature plenty of offensive firepower on both sides. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:29 am

  • Bears ‘excited’ about Swift as pass catcher
Bears running backs coach Chad Morton said he’s “excited” about using D’Andre Swift as a pass catcher out of the backfield.

Advice: “I’ve been watching [Swift] since college,” said Morton, who worked under Bears OC Shane Waldron when Waldron coordinated the Seahawks’ offense. “He’s exciting to watch, man. That guy, he’s got so much ability. He’s fast, he can make guys miss and what we’re excited about now is just opening up the passing game with the backs. He’s got that opportunity to have that one-on-one matchup out of the backfield. We can get him out on empty (formation). We do a lot of empty stuff here, too, so we can move this guy all around. He can win from any spot.” Waldron’s offense didn’t exactly emphasize running back targets in Seattle. The Seahawks last year were 24th in target share to RBs (15 percent), with lead back Ken Walker seeing a meager 37 targets over 15 games. Swift, meanwhile, wasn’t an effective pass catcher last year in Philadelphia. He ranked 47th in running back yards per route run and was graded by Pro Football Focus as the NFL’s 49th best pass-catching RB.

  • Jaguars to face new-look Pats, Bears in London
The Jaguars will play the Patriots in London on October 20.

Advice: Jacksonville once again gets two London games, this time against a new-look Patriots team presumably led by third overall pick Drake Maye and the Bears and their new franchise QB Caleb Williams. The Jags, with a strong contingent of fans in the United Kingdom, are 6-5 all time in London games. The other London game in 2024 will be the Jets against the Vikings on October 6. It will mark Aaron Rodgers’ second London game. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:05 am

  • Commanders to tryout WR Martavis Bryant
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports free agent WR Martavis Bryant is scheduled to work out for the Commanders Wednesday.

Advice: Bryant was last on the Cowboys’ practice squad for the 2023 season. The 32-year-old last played an NFL snap in 2018 for the Raiders, spending four seasons with the Steelers prior to that. He bounced around the XFL and fan-controlled football over the last few years and is now trying out for the Commanders to attempt a return to the NFL. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:00 pm
