• Deven Thompkins waived/injured by Tampa Bay Bucs
    Bucs waived/injured WR Deven Thompkins.

Advice: A 2022 UDFA, under-sized Thompkins caught 17 balls in 17 games last season, so it’s a little surprising to see him cut loose at this stage of the offseason. Heading into his age-25 campaign, 5-foot-8 Thompkins has roughly six weeks to land on someone else’s 90-man roster before training camp. That, of course, will depend on his health. • Payton: ‘Going to see a lot of growth’ from Mims
Broncos head coach Sean Payton said of Marvin Mims, “You’re going to see a lot of growth from year one to year two.”

Advice: The Athletic’s Nick Kosmider in Thursday’s OTAs. We’re at the peak of coach-speak season, so take Payton’s quotes with a grain of salt, but a second-year leap from Mims could be on the way. Mims caught 22 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown as a rookie but was frustratingly buried near the bottom of Denver’s wide receiver depth chart behind the likes of Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Brandon Johnson. Payton and the Broncos traded up in the 2023 draft to select Mims in the second round, which should serve somewhat as a signal of how the team envisions him for the long term. With Jerry Jeudy now gone and rookie Troy Franklin carrying fourth-round draft capital, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mims earn starting reps in his second season, giving Bo Nix an explosive weapon on the outside. • Giants add incentives to Darius Slayton’s contract
Darius Slayton has reported to Giants OTAs after the team added incentives to his 2024 contract.

Advice: Slayton was hoping to earn a new contract this offseason but agreed to report to the team after having $2.5 million worth of incentives baked into his 2024 deal. Now in the final year of his contract, Slayton is set to earn at least $8.15 million this season and is likely headed for free agency in 2025, barring a breakout year. Slayton caught 50 passes for a career-high 770 yards last season and found the end zone four times. The speedy field-stretcher doesn’t profile as a WR1 and is expected to be behind rookie Malik Nabers in the target pecking order. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:32 am

  • Returns to practice
Odunze (hamstring) returned to practice Thursday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Odunze was featured in a video from practice catching a contested pass from rookie QB Caleb Williams. With the hamstring tightness behind him, the No. 9 overall pick will continue to build chemistry with Williams while working as the No. 3 receiver for now behind DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. • Set to compete for WR slotting
As the coming season approaches, Austin is in line to compete with several newcomers for depth chart slotting behind top wideout George Pickens, Chris Ward of Steelersnow.com reports.

Advice: In the wake of the offseason departures of Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson, the Steelers added Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and Scott Miller via free agency and used a third-round draft pick on Roman Wilson. Austin, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he caught 17 of his 30 targets for 180 yards and a TD while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a TD in 17 games. In his third season as a pro, the speedy 5-foot-9, 162-pounder has an opportunity to carve out an increased role in Pittsburgh's offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith. • Signs lucrative extension
Waddle signed a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension with the Dolphins on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal includes $76 million guaranteed.

Advice: Waddle is now one of the top five highest-paid receivers in the NFL with an annual salary of $28.25 million. The 2021 first-round pick has been dominant since entering the league, ripping off three straight seasons with 1,000-plus yards, including a 2022 campaign where he produced 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. The 25-year-old battled injuries last season but is fully healthy ahead of the 2024 campaign. Waddle is still the clear No. 2 receiver behind Tyreek Hill, but there's clearly room for both players to produce as the fastest receiving duo in the league. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:17 am

  • Jaylen Waddle gets three-year extension from Fins
Dolphins signed Jaylen Waddle to a three-year, $84.75 million extension.

Advice: Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Waddle’s deal includes $76 million in guaranteed money, as the star receiver is now under contract through 2028. Waddle has been one of the most productive receivers in the league since being drafted in 2021, tallying up 3,385 yards and 18 touchdowns through his first three seasons. He’s managed to eclipse 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons despite playing alongside Tyreek Hill for each of the last two years. Reaching a long-term deal with Waddle was a no-brainer for both sides, as the Dolphins get him under contract with two years still left on his rookie deal, and he’ll have a chance to earn another big deal after his age-30 season. • Jauan Jennings signs two-year deal with 49ers
    49ers re-signed WR Jauan Jennings to a two-year contract.

Advice: The 49ers originally tendered Jennings, a restricted free agent this offseason, at the second-round level. Jennings chose not to sign the tender and managed to get the two-year deal instead. As Schefter notes, the deal functions as a one-year extension on top of the tender he was offered. It’s worth up to $15.4 million with $10.5 million guaranteed. Jennings has been the team’s WR3 for most of his career. He didn’t see the ball much in 2023, only catching 19 passes for 265 yards and a single touchdown. Jennings did, however, catch and throw for a touchdown in the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss. With first-round rookie Ricky Pearsall now in the mix, there isn’t much room for Jennings’ role to grow, but he will be a valuable depth piece for Kyle Shanahan over the next two seasons. • Inks two-year deal
Jennings and the 49ers agreed Wednesday on a two-year deal worth up to $15.4 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: The Niners gave Jennings a second-round restricted free agent tender in March. Given that it was unlikely any team would give up a pick that early for the right to pay Jennings a considerable contract, a trade was the only other viable option. Both parties were able to avoid that situation with this new deal, which is akin to a one-year extension that keeps him with San Francisco through the 2025 season. Jennings will be back to fill the No. 3 wide receiver role behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk during the upcoming campaign. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:52 pm
