  • Geronimo: My absence was precautionary
Geronimo Allison (hamstring) said he sat out Wednesday's practice "for precautionary reasons."

Advice: However, Allison did not commit to returning to practice on Thursday, and there is at least mild concern about his Week 20 availability. The Packers are dealing with injuries to three of their top-four receivers, also including Jordy Nelson (ribs) and Davante Adams (ankle). We'll have updates on Thursday. • Davante Adams injury said to be severe
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel describes Davante Adams' ankle injury as similar to the injury he tried playing through last year.

Advice: A high ankle sprain was at least partially to blame for Adams' disappointing sophomore campaign, from which he rebounded to rank second in the NFL in touchdown catches (12) this season behind only teammate Jordy Nelson (14). Per the Journal-Sentinel, Adams "is going to have to prove he can be an effective player in order to be cleared" for the NFC Championship Game. The Packers have ruled out Adams from this week's practices. He needs to practice on Saturday and look competent doing it in order to get the Week 20 green light. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:06 pm

  • Jordy worked 'slowly' into Packers practice
Jordy Nelson (broken ribs) admitted he worked "slowly" back into Wednesday's practice.

Advice: Officially, he was listed as "limited." Either way, it was a step in the right direction. "I just caught some balls, tried to slowly work back in to it and feel things out," Nelson described. Nelson admitted he is entering unknown territory in his "hopeful" quest to play against the Falcons. "I've never played receiver with broken ribs," said Jordy. "We'll find out, hopefully. ... Brandon Marshall said he's not open to taking a pay cut.

  • Falcons limit Taylor Gabriel in practice
Taylor Gabriel (foot) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Advice: Gabriel returned for the Divisional Round after sitting out the regular season finale, catching 4-of-6 targets for 71 yards. The Falcons are limiting his reps ahead of Sunday's NFC Championship.Daily Slant: Per Mike Clay, the Packers have allowed the most FPPG to WRs who line up on the right side of the field, something that bodes particularly well for Taylor Gabriel. The speedy receiver lines up on the right side about half the time, with Julio Jones running roughly a third of his routes out of that spot. It's possible that the Packers use LaDarius Gunter to shadow Jones, but that would even further increase the appeal of Gabriel. On the other side of this match-up, the Falcons have allowed the 2nd most FPPG to slot receivers, so Randall Cobb becomes very intriguing if Jordy Nelson sits. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:30 pm

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski considers Ryan Mathews a candidate to be released or asked to take a pay cut.

Advice: Mathews is entering the final year of his contract, and his $4 million base salary is currently ninth-highest among all running backs. In no way is Mathews a top-10 back in this league, and he's coming off a serious neck injury suffered in Week 16. Cutting Mathews would clear $4 million in cap space. Advice: "I'm curious to see him move," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I don't think he'll practice until Saturday." Adams hurt his ankle late in the Divisional Round win over the Cowboys and had to be helped to the sideline before returning. With Jordy Nelson (ribs) also sidelined, losing Adams would be a huge blow to Green Bay. • Jets to cut Brandon Marshall this offseason?
ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini expects the team to release Brandon Marshall this offseason.

Advice: Marshall is entering the final year of his contract and is coming off arguably the worst season of his career. He had a 10-year-low 59 catches for 788 yards, just the second time since 2006 that Marshall was held under 1,000 yards. He also found the end zone just three times after scoring a combined 45 touchdowns the previous four years. Everything can't be blamed on Marshall, however, as the quarterback play was truly atrocious. But Marshall turns 33 in March and is due a non-guaranteed $7.5 million. The Jets are going nowhere fast. • Tomlin: Ladarius Green still in protocol
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Ladarius Green remains in the concussion protocol.

Advice: Green did not seem particularly close to playing in the Divisional Round, but Tomlin did say he has a chance. He will need to get in some practice reps early in the week to have any shot at returning. The Steelers could certainly use Green as they head to New England.Daily Slant: It's looking very much like we won't see Green again this postseason. His history with concussions was concerning before this season, and things haven't improved at all in his first year with the Steelers. Green was acting as the next-in-command to Antonio Brown among the receiving corps, and his presence would theoretically make it tougher for the Patriots to heavily attack Brown with double coverage. Jesse James would draw another start and while he's a good bet to play the large majority of the snaps, his volume is still concerning. Davante Adams supplied five catches for 76 yard on 10 targets Sunday in the Packers' Divisional Round win over the Cowboys.

Advice: Adams nearly scored a touchdown in the second quarter but was forced out at the one-yard line. He rolled his left ankle after a 16-yard catch in the fourth quarter but returned after getting taped up. Adams matched up with Brandon Carr and played him to a draw. The talented third-year wideout has been heavily involved with Jordy Nelson hurt the last two weeks, snagging 13-of-22 targets for 201 yards and one touchdown in that span. Of course, that would require the Packers to beat a Dallas team they already lost to once this season. Bryant has since changed his tune and says he's been working out harder than ever before. The 25-year-old has spent most of the last year training in Nevada while helping out as an assistant high school coach. Bennett just looks slow on the field at this stage of the season and hasn’t given the Patriots much in the passing game lately beyond a few red-zone scores. • Pats list Malcolm Mitchell as questionable
Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 19 against the Texans.

Advice: Late-week indications were that Mitchell was unlikely to play in the Divisional Round, and we'd lean toward expecting him to be among New England's inactives. The Patriots' active wideouts should be Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Michael Floyd, and Danny Amendola. Daily Slant: The Patriots receivers - especially the secondary options - are tough to peg this week. Edelman is by far the safest, as he's averaged 12.6 targets over the last seven games. Hogan and Floyd would be in play for tournaments, as both have big play ability. Floyd posted a 3/36/1 line in place of Mitchell in Week 17 and displayed some serious blocking skills that could earn him extra playing time. • Jordy Nelson ruled out for Divisional Round
Jordy Nelson (ribs) has been ruled out for Sunday night's Divisional Round game against the Cowboys.

Advice: As expected. Nelson hasn't practiced at all this week and is dealing with multiple rib fractures. He'll be reevaluated next week if the Packers advance to the NFC title game. Geronimo Allison will handle No. 3 receiver duties, and more will be asked of Davante Adams out wide and Randall Cobb inside. Daily Slant: Aaron Rodgers' production suffered last year without Nelson, he averaged 239.6 yards and 1.94 touchdowns per game. Across the 2014 and 2016 seasons, when Nelson played every week, Rodgers threw for 273.8 yards and 2.44 scores. However, Davante Adams improved tremendously this season; he caught 12 touchdowns this year after scoring just once 2015. This should help prevent a similar dip in Rodgers’ production, but it may be worth pivoting to a cheaper option like Matt Ryan, who has a healthy receiving corps and the best offense in the game. Mitchell did miss Week 17 with a knee injury and has only practiced on a "limited" basis this week. Floyd made two big plays in Mitchell's absence and has earned at least a part-time role. With Danny Amendola (ankle) also due back and Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan all systems go, the Patriots suddenly have a wide receiver quagmire of which someone will inevitably get left out. • Dolphins will be lukewarm on Bennett as FA?
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins won't be "inclined to make a big offer" to Martellus Bennett in free agency.

Advice: Wrapping up his first season with the Pats, Bennett is headed to free agency. He turns 30 in March. Bennett is looking like the top tight end available in a market also expected to include Vernon Davis, Jermaine Gresham and Jared Cook. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 3:28 pm

  • Malcolm Mitchell (knee) limited again Thursday
Malcolm Mitchell (knee) remained limited at Thursday's practice.

Advice: He'll likely draw the questionable tag, but should be good to go against Houston. Mitchell had a quiet finish to the season after a nice run in late-Nov./early-Dec. New England should have its full complement of receivers Saturday with Mitchell and Danny Amendola (ankle) both slated to play. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:42 pm

  • Ladarius (concussion) a long shot for Sunday
Ladarius Green (concussion) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Advice: He's still in the league's protocol. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, it would be "shocking" were Green to play Sunday. He's going to miss his fourth straight game. Jesse James and Xavier Grimble will continue to pick up the scraps. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 12:38 pm

  • Jordy Nelson (ribs) not practicing Thursday
Jordy Nelson (broken ribs) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Advice: This is not a surprise, as Nelson is expected to remain with the rehab group through Friday. It's looking like it would take a miracle for Nelson to suit up against the Cowboys on Sunday, and even if he does play, he'd almost certainly be a decoy. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:41 am

  • Rodgers makes it sound like Nelson will sit
Aaron Rodgers made it sound like Jordy Nelson (ribs) is going to miss Sunday's Divisional Round matchup with the Cowboys.

Advice: "We're going to try to get this one and hopefully get him back if he can't play this week," Rodgers said. The quarterback threw in the "if he can't play this week" at the end, but it is pretty clear the Packers are preparing as if Nelson will not suit up. Coach Mike McCarthy has left open the door for Nelson to play if he can participate in the walkthrough on Saturday. That seems unlikely, however, meaning both Geronimo Allison and Jeff Janis should play bigger roles on offense this week. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 6:39 am

  • Ladarius Green (concussion) not practicing
Ladarius Green (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday.

Advice: It's not a good sign after Green had a setback late last week. Green remains in the concussion protocol and will need to get cleared before Friday to have any chance of playing. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 2:31 pm

  • Julio Jones (toe) practicing fully this week
Julio Jones (toe) is practicing fully for the Divisional Round.

Advice: Jones should be close to 100 percent coming off Atlanta's bye. He doesn't have a great matchup but is still a strong DFS play. Jones had a 7/139/1 line against Seattle back in Week 6. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 2:14 pm

  • Martellus Bennett removed from injury report
Martellus Bennett (ankle) has been removed from the injury report.

Advice: Bennett played through ankle/shoulder injuries for most of the second half. He's fully healthy coming off New England's first-round bye. Bennett is a solid DFS play against Houston. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:39 pm

  • Danny Amendola (ankle) practicing fully
Danny Amendola (ankle) is practicing fully this week.

Advice: Amendola has been out since Week 13 with a high-ankle sprain. The Patriots' plan had always been to get him back for the Divisional Round. Amendola will fight with Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Hogan for targets behind Julian Edelman. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:32 pm

  • Malcolm Mitchell (knee) limited Wednesday
Malcolm Mitchell (knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

  • Jordy Nelson (ribs) with rehab group on Wed
Jordy Nelson (ribs) will work with the rehab group at practice through Friday.

Advice: According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport earlier this week, Nelson suffered at least two broken ribs in the Wild Card win over the Giants, and it would take an "incredible effort" for him to play against Dallas on Sunday night. The Packers will conduct a walkthrough on Saturday. It will be important to see if Nelson participates. If he can't play, Geronimo Allison and Jeff Janis would play more. • Geronimo Allison facing marijuana charges
Packers WR Geronimo Allison is facing marijuana charges stemming from a September arrest.

Advice: Arrested in September, Allison was charged in December. He has a court date later this month. It's unclear if any of this is news to the Packers, but it's unlikely. With Jordy Nelson (ribs) banged up, Allison will probably be Green Bay's No. 3 receiver for the Divisional Round. He had a productive final few weeks of the regular season with Randall Cobb sidelined. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 3:03 pm

  • Ladarius Green still in concussion protocol
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Ladarius Green is still in the concussion protocol.

Advice: Green got in two full practices last week but was held out on Friday after Tomlin said they did not get the results they wanted from a post-practice test. With Green likely to follow a similar routine this week, his status probably will not be clear until Friday at the earliest. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:15 am
