    • Kaboly: Steelers could add ‘legit’ WR2 this summer
The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly said he thinks the team will “add a legit No. 2 WR before the season starts.”

Advice: Kaboly pencils in free agent signee WR Van Jefferson as the team’s current No. 2 but believes “it would show a lack of awareness and urgency” if the front office opts not to bring in outside talent. Jefferson is best used as a rotational player, having failed to best his 2020 rookie season 1.46 yards per route run average in the three years since. When considering other in-house options, Kaboly did not list third-round rookie Roman Wilson as a candidate which bodes poorly for his access to the fantasy-friendly two-wide receiver sets. A veteran addition would further jeopardize his 2024 relevance. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Daboll: Singletary knows offense ‘inside and out’
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said RB Devin Singletary “knows the offense inside and out.”

Advice: Singletary, who signed with the Giants on a surprisingly pricey three-year deal worth $16.5 million, was in Daboll’s offense in Buffalo before Daboll left for the Giants’ head coaching job. Understanding the intricacies of an offense is often crucial in a running back earning a lead back role. In Houston last season, Singletary was 13th in evasion rate and ninth in yards before contact per rush. He had the third most rush yards over the second half of the season. While Daboll complimented rookie RB Tyone Tracy’s progress in OTAs, no back is likely to challenge Singletary for the Week 1 RB1 role. Rotoworld Today, 9:53 am

    • Vikings coaches ‘blown away’ by Robert Tonyan
The Athletic’s Alec Lewis reports Vikings coaches were “blown away” by Robert Tonyan’s workout.

Advice: The journeyman tight end impressed the Vikings enough for them to sign him in mid-May as a potential short-term replacement for TJ Hockenson, who is recovering from a 2023 knee injury and could miss time in the regular season. Tonyan in OTA sessions has been a “favorite target” of Sam Darnold, J.J. McCarthy, and the other Minnesota QBs, per Lewis. If Tonyan, 30, gets a full complement of routes in the pass-first Vikings offense, he could be more than serviceable in fantasy leagues this fall. Rotoworld Today, 9:45 am

    • Still the No. 2 back
Mitchell remains the clear No. 2 running back for San Francisco, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Lombardi notes that the Niners have a history of trading backup running backs (Matt Breida, Jeff Wilson) when they're happy with their depth at the position. That could be an option this summer, though it's not necessarily likely, with Mitchell in the final year of his contract and a pair of rookies (fourth-round pick Isaac Guerendo, UDFA Cody Schrader) getting work at minicamp. The 49ers also have returning veteran Jordan Mason, but he's mostly played special teams and has never managed to move above Mitchell on the depth chart when Mitchell's been healthy. The long-term plan probably entails Guerendo taking over as the No. 2 RB behind Christian McCaffrey, but Mitchell looks on track to handle the role again this season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:13 am

    • Looking good at minicamp
Vikings DT Harrison Phillips said Thursday that he'd "buy stock in Chandler if I could," Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It sounds like Chandler made a strong impression at spring practices, perhaps increasing his chances to have a key role off the bench behind new starting running back Aaron Jones. Chandler mostly played special teams throughout the first half of last season, but he eventually became the No. 2 running back and later started the final four weeks, averaging 11.8 carries for 52.4 yards (4.5 YPC) and 2.0 catches for 14.5 yards over the final eight games of the season (with three TDs). That makes him a clear favorite for the No. 2 RB job ahead of Myles Gaskin and DeWayne McBride, though it isn't clear how many snaps and touches the role will entail. Jones' history of injuries -- namely five MCL sprains since entering the NFL -- suggests Chandler has a good chance to make starts this season if the Vikings don't add a more experienced backup before Week 1. • Back for minicamp
Hairston (back) was spotted practicing during the Texans' minicamp session Tuesday, per the Associated Press.

Advice: Hairston missed all of Houston's 2023 season due to a back issue, but it now seems as if he's moved past this injury. The Central Michigan product appeared in 16 games in 2022, catching five of his eight targets for 19 yards while also playing 238 special teams snaps. He's expected to compete with Andrew Beck for the Texans' top fullback position as the offseason progresses. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:46 pm

    • Gets back on practice field
Williams (foot) is participating in on-field workouts Thursday.

Advice: Williams missed most of OTAs due to a foot injury, but he's returned to the field for the final day of voluntary activities and appears to be handling on-field drills without limitations. Coach Sean McVay continuously downplayed the severity of Williams' injury, and it looks like the starting running back will indeed be ready to go for the start of mandatory minicamp June 10. The Rams could still opt to cap Williams' workload at practice if there are any concerns about his recovery, but it looks like he could be in position to handle the majority of first-team reps during minicamp, with rookie third-round pick Blake Corum, Boston Scott, Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans working behind him. • Cut by Kansas City
The Chiefs waived Hall on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: Kansas City has decided to part ways with Hall after signing him to a reserve/future contract back in January. The 23-year-old running back out of Georgia Tech has yet to make his NFL debut, but he spent time with the Giants', Cardinals', and Browns' practice squads during his lone season in the league. • Reverts to IR
White (knee) reverted to the Jaguars' injured reserve list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: The undrafted wide receiver out of East Carolina suffered a torn ACL during Monday's practice, and after going unclaimed on waivers, he's reverted back to Jacksonville's IR. Given the timing of his injury, White will presumably miss the entire 2024 campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:04 pm
