• No timeline for T.J. Hockenson’s (knee) return
T.J. Hockenson (knee) said he hasn’t “really put a timeline” on his return from last year’s season-ending knee injury.

Advice: Hockenson suffered a torn ACL and MCL in last year’s Week 16 loss to the Lions. The veteran tight end said he and the team are “taking it day by day, week by week” and noted that there are “so many variables” that one can go through during the rehab process. Hockenson also added he’s “doing really good right now,” which is an encouraging sign for the Vikings and fantasy managers. Still, the late timing of his injury could result in him missing time early in the season as he continues his recovery. The Vikings have Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt both on the roster and also signed Robert Tonyan to a contract earlier this week. If they don’t feel like Hockenson is ready to go, they have the players in place to wait out his recovery should it continue into the regular season. Rotoworld Today, 11:24 am

  • Dropping weight for contract season
Harris' trainer said Friday the running back has dropped to around 235 pounds this offseason after playing at 242 during the 2023 season, and that he's increasingly motivated after the Steelers declined his fifth-year option, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Advice: Harris is heading into the final season of his rookie deal with Pittsburgh, so there's no doubt about his motivation to log a productive year and earn sizeable payday for 2025. Playing at a lower weight could help Harris' efficiency metrics, and there's also some reason to be optimistic that he now finds himself in a better scenario than 2023, when he set new career-high marks with eight rushing touchdowns and 4.1 YPC. Rookie first-round pick Troy Fautanu should represent an upgrade to the O-line, and while there are question marks surrounding Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, both have the potential to command a more effective offense than Kenny Pickett did. Harris is capable of handling 20-plus touches but also dependent on volume to produce, making the emergence of Jaylen Warren the biggest threat to his fantasy prospects. Rotowire.com Today, 7:12 am

  • Has skipped some offseason work
Tagovailoa has reportedly missed most of Miami's team activities this offseason while negotiations on a potential contract extension continue, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports.

Advice: Coach Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier have both vocally supported the idea of Tagovailoa remaining with the Dolphins on a long-term basis and an extension being penned this offseason; however, it sounds like until that's official, the team may not have the quarterback's full participation. That said, Tagovailoa was confirmedly a participant in part of Miami's offseason workouts back in April, with Poupart noting the team released videos of him throwing on multiple different days. There are no signs Tagovailoa would consider skipping June's mandatory minicamp, and the quarterback has downplayed concerns about contract negotiations. As things currently stand, Tagovailoa is set to play out the 2024 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Rotowire.com Today, 7:01 am

  • Report: Najee Harris in best shape of his life
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Brian Batko Najee Harris has changed his diet and workout routine to lose weight ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Advice: Harris has reportedly lost seven pounds this offseason and has been “almost obsessively clean” with his diet in recent months. “It’s all fueling his fire to have an even better season than last year and prove a lot of people wrong,” said Josh Scott, Harris’ trainer. “There’s a lot of people that hate on him for whatever reason, but he’s been as consistent as you can be. He’s durable. I think he’s going to continue with that. I mean, contract season, that pretty much speaks for itself.” The Steelers this month decided not to pick up Harris’ fifth-year option, though the team has not ruled out striking a deal with Harris to keep him in Pittsburgh beyond the 2024 season. He’ll likely split the backfield workload this season with the more explosive, efficient Jaylen Warren. Rotoworld Today, 6:24 am

  • ‘Unclear’ if Tua participates in voluntary OTAs
CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones believes it’s “unclear” if Tua Tagovailoa will participate in voluntary OTAs.

Advice: Jones said Tua, lobbying for a long-term deal with the Dolphins, has been “absent for the large majority of voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported back April 15" and might not join his teammates at voluntary workouts starting Monday. Tagovailoa said in April that he would not miss any offseason workouts while working out a contract with the team. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has said he wants to sign Tua to a longer term deal — despite Tua’s shortcomings in an otherwise productive Miami offense. This situation will likely be resolved in the coming weeks. If it isn’t, Tagovailoa could face daily fines of $40,000 if he sits out some or all of training camp. The team could save those fines if it sees fit, Jones said. Rotoworld Today, 6:17 am

  • Inks in Detroit
The Lions signed McKeon to a contract Thursday.

Advice: McKeon suffered an ankle injury last December and was placed on IR after suiting up for nine games with the Cowboys, in which span he failed to secure either of his two targets. He can contribute both on special teams and as a blocker on offense, and McKeon, who's presumably past his ankle issue, now gets a chance to compete for a depth role with Detroit. • Team expecting Year 2 breakout
Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said he believes Johnston is "really going to launch" as a starter during the 2024 season, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Advice: Horitz mentioned that in his time as director of player personnel with Baltimore last season that Johnston "was a player we liked," and he praised the 2023 first-round pick's work ethic this offseason while acknowledging "some rawness to his game" as a rookie. Johnston finished with a subpar 431 yards last season despite suiting up for all 17 games, but with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams (knee) no longer in the picture for Los Angeles, he has a clear path to a starting role alongside incumbent Joshua Palmer, while being joined by DJ Chark and rookie second-rounder Ladd McConkey. New coach Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman could spark life to the Chargers' offense, though the new scheme projects as a run-heavy approach. Still, Johnston will have every opportunity to establish himself atop this depth chart, despite his uninspiring rookie production. He'll need to make some strides this offseason toward more consistently gaining separation, not to mention cleaning up issues with drops. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:48 pm

  • Thornton tacks on five pounds to improve play
Tyquan Thornton said he’s added weight in hopes of improving his performance and preventing injury.

Advice: Thornton stated his aim is to play at 190 pounds this season, both to improve his on-field performance and reduce his likelihood of suffering another impact-related injury. Thornton has failed to clear 0.80 yards per route run in his first two seasons, ostensibly slowed by an August 2022 clavicle injury and an August 2023 shoulder injury. Thornton must prove he belongs on an NFL roster this year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:44 pm

  • Robert Tonyan set to join Vikings
Vikings signed TE Robert Tonyan, formerly of the Bears.

Advice: Tonyan joined the Bears as a free agent last offseason and caught just 11 passes for 112 scoreless yards while playing primarily behind Cole Kmet. He’s a player with two seasons of 450-plus yards on his resume, including a productive 2020 in which he went for 52-586-11. With that said, Tonyan is once again looking to be banished to the bench behind T.J. Hockenson and veteran Josh Oliver. While it’s possible he’ll work his way onto the field in two tight end sets or due to injuries, he has little to no fantasy upside at this time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:39 am
