• Giants claim QB Nathan Rourke
Giants claimed QB Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Patriots.

Advice: Rourke is a former CFL star, passing for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with the BC Lions in 2022. He signed with the Jaguars for 2023, but was released towards the end of the season. The Patriots briefly scooped up Rourke, who was the odd man out after April’s draft saw Drake Maye and Joe Milton both join the Pats. Rourke now joins Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito in the Giants’ quarterback room. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:43 pm

  • Claimed off waivers
The Giants have claimed Rourke off waivers from the Patriots, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Advice: After being waived by the Patriots on Monday, Rourke was quickly scooped up by the Giants. The 25-year-old will add depth to a New York QB corps headlined by Daniel Jones, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL, with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito as backups. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:23 pm

  • Burrow on wrist: ‘I felt good the last two days’
Joe Burrow said, “I felt good the last two days,” when asked about his recovery from wrist surgery.

Advice: Burrow has now been spotted throwing on back-to-back days and continues to show improvement from last year’s season-ending wrist surgery. The fifth-year quarterback noted that “There is always going to be some pain when you’re coming back from injury,” but said on days he’s feeling good, he’s “going to go.” Burrow also added that he expects his recovery to continue up until training camp, so it’s safe to say he’s not quite out of the woods yet. Still, it’s yet another encouraging sign for Burrow and the Bengals, who are eyeing big things in 2024 if all key contributors can stay healthy. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:01 pm

  • Continues to progress
Burrow (wrist), who has resumed throwing, indicated Tuesday that he's fully cleared to do everything that doesn't involve contact, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Burrow, who is bouncing back from a procedure to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, started throwing again in April, noting that at this stage his focus is on mechanics like his footwork and arm path, as well as the "little intricacies of the throwing motion." While it remains to be seen when he'll be cleared for contact, Ben Baby of ESPN relays that the Bengals' franchise signal-caller feels as though he's "in a good spot" in his recovery process, and there's nothing to suggest that Burrow won't be ready to go well ahead of Week 1. • Competition for QB2
Haener appears to be the early frontrunner to serve as the QB2 for the Saints this offseason, John Hendrix of Sports Illustrated reports.

Advice: Haener was suspended for the first six games of his 2023 campaign and has yet to make his NFL debut. However, the 6-foot-1 signal-caller should have a chance to establish himself as QB2 after New Orleans made several changes at the quarterback position this offseason. Last year's No. 2 QB Jameis Winston signed with the Colts in March. Meanwhile, the Saints signed veteran backup Nathan Peterman and fourth-year pro Kellen Mond this offseason before selecting Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Carr is still clearly set as the starter, but the competition to be his primary reserve figures to be wide open this offseason. Haener's experience within the Saints' quarterback room should give him an immediate leg up on Peterman, Mond and Rattler. The 33-year-old Taysom Hill also is listed as a quarterback by the Saints, but he's better described as a multi-use player who regularly slots in at positions across the offense and special teams. It's highly unlikely that the team will carry more than three quarterbacks on the active roster during the 2024 campaign. Therefore, it will be worth monitoring how this competition shapes up during offseason workouts and training camp while projecting this QB depth chart. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:13 pm

  • Burrow ‘looked as quick and as athletic’ as usual
Bengals QB coach Brad Kragthorpe said Joe Burrow “looked as quick and as athletic as I’ve seen him look,” when asked about Burrow’s first day throwing since wrist surgery.

Advice: Burrow surprised everyone on Monday when he took to the field to participate in throwing drills, a moment captured by the team’s social media account. It was an encouraging step towards a return from season-ending wrist surgery, but Kragthrope’s takeaway from the workout is even more encouraging. The quarterbacks coach said Burrow “looked like the Joe Burrow we’re used to seeing” and that he “didn’t see any difference” in his throws, adding he’s happy with where Burrow’s at in his recovery. Wide receiver Andrei Iosivas also praised Burrow for “the amount of power” he has on his throws and said he “was slinging it and really putting some heat on those [passes].” With training camp roughly three months away, Burrow still has plenty of time to build on his recovery, but it sounds like he’s trending toward being ready for training camp. • Throwing at minicamp
Burrow (wrist) was on the field throwing at the Bengals' facility Monday.

Advice: Burrow's season ended 27 snaps into Week 11 last season, after which he required surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right (throwing) wrist. Earlier in the offseason, he stated that he expected to be fully cleared by mid-May, and it appears he's on track. Burrow should be all systems go well in time for training camp later this summer. His weaponry has gone a bit of an overhaul, with Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd and Irv Smith jettisoned. Veterans Zack Moss and Mike Gesicki were signed as free agents to go along with returnees Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:35 am

  • Joe Burrow (wrist) back to throwing after surgery
Joe Burrow was spotted throwing for the first time since he underwent wrist surgery.

Advice: It’s unlikely that this is the first time Burrow has thrown since undergoing season-ending wrist surgery in late November, but it’s the first time we’ve seen him do so publicly. Burrow said earlier this offseason that he’s “confident” he’ll return healthy in 2024 and also added that his rehab “hasn’t really affected” his offseason preparation. The Bengals are set to start rookie minicamp on May 10th and have OTAs beginning on May 28th. Burrow may not officially begin practicing with his teammates until mandatory minicamp begins in June, but it’s an encouraging sign to see him back on the field and slinging the ball with little to no difficulty. • Being let go by Patriots
The Patriots plan to waive Rourke, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Given that the Patriots took two quarterbacks (Drake Maye and Joe Milton) in last month's NFL draft and also roster Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe, it's not surprising that the team elected to part ways with Rourke. The 25-year-old has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game, but Rourke did draw 11 starts over two campaigns (2021 and 2022) with the CFL's BC Lions. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:25 am
