• Remains in Detroit
Sudfeld (knee) re-signed with the Lions on Wednesday.

Advice: Sudfeld missed all of last year after suffering a torn ACL in a preseason game against the Panthers. The 30-year-old operated as the team's backup quarterback to Jared Goff in 2022, and was competing with Teddy Bridgewater for that role last season before his injury. If he can make the Lions roster in 2024, he'll likely be the No. 3 option with Hendon Hooker behind Goff. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:59 pm

  • Lions bring back Nate Sudfeld
    Lions re-signed QB Nate Sudfeld.

Advice: Sudfeld served as Jared Goff’s backup in 2022 and had a shot at hanging onto the role last year. He was slated for a quarterback competition with Teddy Bridgewater until he suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game versus the Panthers. With Bridgewater retired, Sudfeld will compete with second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker for the backup job. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:41 pm

  • Harbaugh ‘can’t wait’ to ‘build up’ offensive line
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he “can’t wait” to “build up” the team’s offensive line.

Advice: “April 2, let’s get it started,” Harbaugh added in an interview during the NFL coaches’ meetings. The new LA head coach talked up the importance of a solid offensive line in creating a consistent, productive offense. It’s a surprise to no one since Harbaugh has emphasized tough-nosed football everywhere he’s coached. The 2023 Chargers were graded by PFF as the league’s worst run blocking offensive line; they were 13th in pass blocking. It would be easy to interpret Harbaugh’s comments as a giveaway that the Chargers will take Notre Dame OL Joe Alt with the fifth pick in the 2023 draft, forgoing offensive firepower sorely needed after parting ways with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Just Herbert last season was pressured on 36 percent of his drop backs, which ranked 21st out of 43 qualifying QBs. Herbert completed 49 percent of his throws for five touchdowns and six interceptions when pressured in 2023. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:59 am

  • Discussing new deal
Goff and the Lions have begun negotiations on a contract extension, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Advice: The same is true for star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, one of the team's nine regular starters on offense currently under contract with the Lions for 2024. The two exceptions are wide receiver Josh Reynolds, who averaged 3.8 targets per game last year, and right guard Jonah Jackson, who has already been replaced by 2023 Pro Bowler Kevin Zeitler. Even offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is back for another year, after many assumed he'd leave for a head coaching job. Goff has just one season and $27.3 million remaining on a four-year extension he originally signed with the Rams. What was once viewed as an overpay has now become one of the best values among veteran QB contracts, with the 29-year-old coming off consecutive seasons with more than 4,400 passing yards and at least 29 TDs. Goff hasn't quite been as effective for fantasy managers, as he offers next to nothing on the ground and plays in an offense that got 47 rushing TDs from its running backs over the past two seasons. • Not offered extension yet
The Cowboys haven't offered Prescott a contract extension, with player and team having a "mutual understanding" of the situation as he enters a contract season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Advice: Prescott had one of his best statistical seasons in 2023, but the Cowboys may be hesitant to commit long term after yet another disappointment in the playoffs. On the other hand, Prescott is scheduled for a $55.46 million cap hit in 2024 even after restructuring with void years, and an extension would allow the Cowboys to significantly lower that number. He'll turn 31 in August, and without a significant addition in the draft, he may play 2024 behind the worst offensive line he's ever had while also working with a diminished supporting cast following the departure of Tony Pollard. • May stay if no trade happens
Jets chairman Woody Johnson suggested Monday that if the Jets don't trade Wilson, they intend to keep the QB, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: That said, Cimini notes that the Jets remain motivated to deal Wilson, who last month was granted permission to speak to other teams about a possible trade. Given that Tyrod Taylor was recently signed by the Jets to back up Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), a change of scenery would no doubt benefit Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In three seasons since then, the 24-year-old has compiled a 12-21 record as a starter and thrown more interceptions (25) than TD passes (23). Rotowire.com Monday, 2:34 pm

  • Giants owner won’t stop team from drafting QB
Giants owner John Mara said he won’t stop GM Joe Schoen from drafting a quarterback.

Advice: While Mara said he wouldn’t stop the team from drafting a quarterback, he also added that he thinks Daniel Jones “is the real deal” and that he still has confidence in him. Jones crashed back to earth in 2023 after throwing for 3,205-15-5 while adding another 120-708-7 on the ground. Just one year into a four-year, $160 million deal that he signed last offseason, Jones will need to prove he’s worth keeping on the roster beyond this season, as the team is set to take on a $41.605 million cap hit in 2025 if he’s on the roster. The Giants taking a shot on a quarterback at some point in the draft wouldn’t be surprising, but they’ve been committed to the idea of Jones as the starter in 2024. Rotoworld Monday, 2:30 pm

  • Should be ready for OTAs
Coach Shane Steichen noted Monday that Richardson (right shoulder) "should be" OK for the Colts' OTAs, which take place in May and early June, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.

Advice: "I like where he's at," Steichen said of Richardson, who is bouncing back from surgery that he underwent on his throwing shoulder in October. "He's progressing really, really well. He's just getting better and better." Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Richardson began throwing again last month, and, considering that, the 2023 first-rounder figures to be eased back into his on-field participation, at least initially. In any case, assuming no setbacks, Richardson is set to reclaim his role as the Colts' starting quarterback this coming season, with veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco now on board to work as the team's top backup. • Jets will keep Zach Wilson if unable to trade QB
Jets owner Woody Johnson said, “If we don’t trade [Zach Wilson], we’re going to keep him.”

Advice: Few trade markets have been down as bad as Wilson’s. The former No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft has had his share of documented struggles since joining the pro ranks and wasn’t expected to play in 2023 until Aaron Rodgers’ torn Achilles forced Wilson onto the field just four offensive snaps into the season. Wilson threw for 2,271-8-7 in 12 games last season and has a career line of 6,293-23-25 in 34 career games. The team granted Wilson permission to seek a trade back in February, but nothing has materialized since then. Assuming he’s on the roster, Wilson would count as a little more than $11.1 million against the cap in 2024. Rotoworld Monday, 1:27 pm
