Commish Notes

  • {Update}

I have now scheduled our draft order to be randomized in advance of our draft. The order will be randomized a week from now on Tuesday at 7 pm. This will give you nearly 5 days to practice and strategize your plan for drafting your 2023 fantasy season. You can watch the randomization LIVE via the following link:

    https://www.fantasynerds.com/random-draft-order/live/tllkisp9ms43

I also want to recognize and welcome two new challengers in our league, both Sean (Mean Machine) and Jonathan ([REDACTED]). Thank you for replacing our previous contenders.

Remember that the structure of our league is much different this year despite the minor roster changes and scoring calibrations, this can potentially have a significant effect on your usual play style. You are responsible for reviewing the changes and adjusting accordingly. I have already summarized each change in previous commissioner notes. Kickers were removed, but most importantly, we cannot start two TEs in our active roster anymore, and we added a flex, so we will have to start a combination of 7 WRs and RBs each week. Make sure you're comfortable with whichever positional advantage you decide to take in your draft process as mistakes will be less forgiving near the top of the draft due to our extended active roster.

Next year the plan is to change our waiver system to FAAB, so I also suggest playing a free league with that type of waiver system to familiarize yourself with it this year.

    Good Luck!

  • Welcome back to our Yahoo NFL Fantasy League! This year we have some exciting new changes that will test our mettle and provide us the opportunity to demonstrate our skills. Our experienced league will be taking a more serious and balanced approach to our annual competition. A full log of changes has been included below and the league has been optimized to be a better fit for veteran players. First, we'll get into the new league dues and contest structure.

$210 is due for each member. $200 of which will be paid out to winners and $10 will be pooled for the cost of our trophy, engraving, and shipping. This will not be a perpetual trophy. Each 1st place winner of every year will get to keep his own trophy forever.

    1st Place - $1,000 + Trophy
    2nd Place - $400
    3rd Place - $200

Jackpot (Weeks 5 -12) $50 to the team with the highest score (8 weeks/$400).

League dues of $210 will be DUE by July 31st. You are welcome to submit payment prior to that, but if you cannot make the payment by the end of July, make sure you communicate that to me as soon as possible, as I need to be able to plan or recruit accordingly.

**I will not rule out the possibility of an in-person draft. There may be 1 or 2 people leaving our league this year, and while we will miss them for their years of participation, this could allow us to invite local replacements. I will reach out to you all individually and on the Instagram group.

The following is a log of all changes made for the upcoming 2023 season:

    League:

    Maximum Player Acquisitions 70 - 80
    Maximum Trades 10 - 12
Last Date to Trade Nov 18th - 25th
Maximum Player Acquisitions Per Week 7 - 8

    Roster:

    Kicker 1 - 0
    Flex (WR/RB/TE) 1 - 0
    Flex (WR/RB) 0 - 2
    Injured Reserve (IR) 2 - 0
    Bench (BN) 7 - 8

    Scoring:

    Completions 0.5 - 0.25
    Incomplete Pass -0.5 - -0.25
    Pick Six Thrown -2 - -1

    Points Allowed (21-27) 1 - 2
    Points Allowed (28-34) -1 - 0
    Points Allowed (35+) -3 - -2
    Tackles For Loss 0 - 0.25

Passing Yards (Bonus 1) 300 Yards 2 Points - Same
Passing Yards (Bonus 2) 350 Yards 3 Points - (REMOVED)
    Passing Yards (Bonus 3) 400 Yards 4 Points - 2 Points

Rushing Yards (Bonus 1) 100 Yards 2 Points - Same
    Rushing Yards (Bonus 2) 150 Yards 3 Points - 2 Points
    Rushing Yards (Bonus 3) 200 Yards 4 Points - 2 Points

Receiving Yards (Bonus 1)100 Yards 2 Points - Same
    Receiving Yards (Bonus 2) 150 Yards 3 Points - 2 Points
    Receiving Yards (Bonus 3) 200 Yards4 Points - 2 Points

    Return Yards [Player] (Bonus 1) 100 Yards 3 Points - 2 Points
Return Yards [Player] (Bonus 2) 150 Yards 5 Points - REMOVED

    Return Yards [D/ST] (Bonus 1) 100Yards 1Points - Same
    Return Yards [D/ST] (Bonus 2) 140Yards 2Points - 150 Yards 2 Points
    Return Yards [D/ST] (Bonus 3) 180Yards 3Points - 200 yards 2 Points

To summarize these changes the goal was to slightly nerf QBs, buff D/ST, and put more focus on the main skill positions (WR/RB). With the removal of the w/r/t flex, and the addition of two w/r slots you will have to start a combination of 7 WRs & RBs. You can do up to 5 WRs or up to 4 RBs, but you can no longer start two TEs. Covid restrictions are no longer a thing so I removed 1 IR slot, but to help with the needed depth in starting 7 WR/RBs, I gave that back to you in the form of an addition (BN) bench slot. The bonus points stacking has been scaled back significantly as well, this will reduce the chance you or your opponent goes on a massive 60+ player massacre when someone decides to have his self a 200+ yard day. Same for QBs, previously QBs would benefit from a total of 9 bonus points for having a 400-yard passing day, but now those bonuses will only amount to 4.
