Commish Notes

  • Thanks to everyone who made this 10th year of NJFL games an enjoyable one. Unfortunately, only about half of the league gets to play for the next few weeks, so we say "see you next year" to a few players. Here's how next year's draft will begin (pending trades):

    1. Richard
    2. Matt L
    3. Kevin
    4. Eric
    5. Jordan
    6. Mike

The rest of the picks will be ranked by your finish in the postseason. Don't forget, the Full Roster Rule is still in effect for EVERY game in the playoffs & consolation. Please consult the November 6th Commish Note if you have any questions on this.

There's still a lot of football to be played, a lot of stats to examine, and I'm sure a decent amount of smack talk to be shared. Eliminated players are still welcome to make posts and picks, and stay tuned as we discuss the Big Game & Award Ceremony for our historic 10th season. Enjoy Week 1 of the playoffs, and the final week over in the Anniversary League!

  • Only 4 games remain in the regular season, so let's take a look at where we're at, and a few important notes as we move ahead. Our league leader is 8-1, as John furthers his All-Time Wins lead and his quest for an NJFL Championship. Our current champion is 0-9 and statistically eliminated from the playoffs (as a 4-9 record, at best, would finish him tied for 9th place).

Because of our draft setup and ability to build for next season, I am instituting a new OFFICIAL NJFL rule. Here it is:

If you are officially/mathematically/statistically eliminated from the playoffs OR if the trade deadline has passed, you must start a "complete" team for the remainder of the season.

    - A. Eliminated means that there is no possible way that you can make the playoffs.
    - B. A complete team is (currently) defined as a team with which more than 80% of your roster is projected to receive more than 0.00 points at the time of their team's kickoff. (Right now, that means that you only get a free pass on 2 of your 11 guys.)
    - C. After the trade deadline (this year, November 15th), ALL teams, regardless of standings, must adhere to this rule. As the need to make the playoffs or earn a better/different seed arises, the competitive nature of the league must be maintained - for your matchup, and all other teams affected by your matchup. While "throwing" the game may still be used as a strategy, it cannot be done without checking to make sure your roster follows the rule.
    - D. PENALTY: Should a team fail to follow this rule, 5 additional dollars will be added to that player's league dues for the following season - for EACH violation. Breaking this rule three times, or twice in a row, places the player on automatic probation with the potential for further action during the offseason. If you think a higher draft pick is worth 5 dollars, then the rest of us appreciate your contribution to next year's prize money.
    E. All issues with this rule must go through the Commissioner to be enforced. If you think your opponent is breaking the rule, feel free to contact me for an official review. I'll do my best to keep an eye out for it. Also, certain exceptions of this rule may be allowed, but ONLY if prior permission is granted (one example may be two teams that want to intentionally tie - for the fun of it - in a game that has little to no implications on their or others' seeding).
    F. This rule also applies to the playoffs, so we don't have all 4 first-game losers simply benching their entire teams and wasting our league's four consolation games.

I'll allow you to look this over and respond on the message board from now through Saturday, if you feel there are issues with it. On Sunday, this rule takes full effect and will remain so through the playoffs. If we need to reassess it again in the offseason, we can do that too.

Richard Note: Felix Jones, Chad Henne, Tandon Doss and Levine Toilolo are all projected to score more than zero points, and are free agents.

So... are you a contender, top seed seeker, on the bubble, draft tanker, playoff spoiler, or going out with a bang? Will you be rooting for your players to get a touchdown, or get injured? That's for YOU to decide! If we all follow the rules, this will shape up to be one of the most interesting ends to the season we've seen in a while.

  • Hope everyone had a good draft! I know I did... the page gave me an "A" for it! Anyway, here's what notes remain before kickoff next week:

    1. The schedule has been finalized, and everyone will play everyone once.
    2. If you missed yesterday's Payouts discussion, check the message board.
    3. Eric is the only unpaid guy left. (Matt F fronted Kevin's money at the draft.)
    4. Point values were only slightly changed from last year. Check 'em out.
    5. Please review the new waiver rules when you have a chance.
    6. The trophy fund is now up to about $60.
    7. Neil: Pick 'em, Richard: Survival, Lanz: Salary Cap. You know the drill.
    8. The big league drafts next Sunday afternoon. Find a comfortable chair for that one.

If there's anything else, please let me/us know about it on the message board.

  • Hey everyone, we are less than 24 hours away from the draft!

I'll make this one quick, but remember these notes:

    1. You CAN trade draft picks prior to the draft if you'd like, but you have to tell me before noon tomorrow. I need confirmation by both people to make it official.
    2. The draft trades from last year have been made official. Even if the league page says I didn't do it, I did. Trust me.
    3. The schedule has been finalized. Check it out when you can.
    4. The payouts have been announced. You have 'til NFL Kickoff day to complain about it.
    5. Kevin, Ted and Eric owe me $20. Well, they owe the winner $20
    6. Point values will not be changed after Week 1. Now's the time to talk about it.
    7. Please review the new waiver rules when you have a chance.
    8. Donations are still welcome for the trophy fund.
    9. Pick 'em league is... on the way? Survival pool? Neil and Richard... sup.
    10. See you here tomorrow night!

  • So here we are. Draft week. Not much time left before the season kicks off for real. Here are a few notes to consider for this week:

    1. Eric, Ted, Kevin. Please pay me. Thank you.

    2. Thank you to Richard who voiced his opinions to me about the points settings. I invite the rest of you to look it all over and do the same. If you complain in Week 2 or later, it is your fault, not mine.

    3. The trophy fund is a little light. If you have anything more you'd like to give, I will accept it. If you haven't given yet, it'd be great if you did.

    4. You'll play everyone in the regular season, so you don't to request a game in this league. However, if you'd like to request a rival, please do that ASAP.

    5. There will be a message thread posted soon (by the time you read this, it may already be there) which will explain this year's payouts. If you'd like to complain, be my guest.

    6. The draft is THIS SUNDAY NIGHT. It has been on the schedule for a while, so it's not changing. I hope to see everyone there, but if not, enjoy your auto-picked team.

    Notes from last week:

    A. Waivers. Waivers will actually mean something this year. Players are Free Agents from Tuesday through the time that their first game starts, meaning they can be picked up and dropped freely. Once a player's game starts, he is placed on waivers and cannot be picked up - but he CAN be bid on. On Tuesday, ALL waivered/locked players will be unlocked, and whoever bids highest, gets 'em. Who bids first doesn't mean all that much anymore. There's some kind of tie breaker if that needs to happen, but it probably won't. All you need to know is that your money is actually "worth something" this time around, so be careful.

    B. We had a few instances where this messed us up last year so I'm going to spell it out: You can adjust who is starting on your roster up until the point that each player's game begins. HOWEVER, if you add/drop someone on Sunday, they won't show up on the roster for that week. The cutoff for a Sunday-ready add/drop is like Saturday/Sunday at 2 AM or something. So just to recap: Do your add/drops on Saturday to set your roster up, then spend Sunday worrying about which guy to start. This is also important for getting yourself ready for Monday Night games. If you have any questions on this, start a message thread and we'll help you out.

    C. If you're heading up a pick'em or survival league, now would be a good time to start putting them together. Lookin' at you, Neil.

  • Hello everyone!

We're LESS THAN 10 away from the draft, so here's some information to go over:

    1. You probably know if you haven't paid me yet. I know that Eric, Ted and Kevin definitely haven't. I'll re-count the money soon and see where we're at. Speaking of money, donations are still very much welcome for the trophy fund. Anything you can give will go a long way.

    2. As always, PLEASE look over the roster and points settings now. If you'd like a more organized look at it, come over to my house and I'll let you look over the Commissioner's Settings. If you complain in Week 2 or later, it is your fault, not mine.

    5. Donations are still being accepted for a league trophy. The more you give, the better looking it will be.

    6. Schedules will be finalized once everyone joins, but feel free to request a Rivalry game if you'd like. You only have this week to make those requests.

If you have other questions or comments, please post them in the message boards and I will answer them as soon as I can.

DON'T FORGET: The draft is Sunday, August 25th! It won't be a real life draft this year, but the goal is to do it next year... so Kevin and Ted have 360 days to upgrade their Skype accounts. As for this year, it's almost time to get started!

(Later this week, we'll go over the payouts.)

  • Hello everyone!

We're about 20 days away from the draft, so here's some information to go over:

    1. Teams who have not paid me have been locked from doing pretty much everything, including posts on the message board. See the League Dues section if you have any questions. Only a few people still need to pay me, so we're getting close.

    2. As always, PLEASE look over the roster and points settings now. If you'd like a more organized look at it, come over to my house and I'll let you look over the Commissioner's Settings. If you complain in Week 2 or later, it is your fault, not mine.

    3. You should have all gotten a text message from me about the draft. Once I hear back from all of you, a formal announcement will be made.

    4. The league currently has no formal comment regarding the "Kevin holdout" situation. All we are prepared to say for now is that as the 1st league champion, he is a highly regarded and respected member of the NJFL family.

    5. Donations are still being accepted for a league trophy. The more you give, the better looking it will be.

    6. Schedules will be finalized once everyone joins.

If you have other questions or comments, please post them in the message boards and I will answer them as soon as I can.
