    • Texans head coach Gary Kubiak refuses to name a starter at running back for Sunday's game against the Colts. All week long, Kubiak has been saying that all three of his running backs -- Slaton, Ryan Moats and Chris Brown -- will see action in Indianapolis.
Recommendation: However this situation plays itself out, you can expect Slaton to be on the field in some capacity. He may not be the top running back at the moment, but he's the most explosive of the three and is dangerous as a receiving threat. Without Owen Daniels (knee), we may see more of Slaton as receiver.

  • Mon, Nov 2
    • During a post-game press conference, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak implied that Slaton, who lost his fifth fumble of the season on Sunday, will be involved in next week's game.
Recommendation: "I told Steve in the locker room to get his chin up. This team needs him playing well and making plays and I'm expecting him to come right back next week and help us," said Kubiak. In each of the two games previous to Sunday's win over Buffalo, Slaton had been pulled after laying the ball on the grass, only to come back and contribute in some meaningful way. He was not put back into Sunday's game as Ryan Moats rushed for 126 yards and three scores. While Kubiak isn't letting on about his plans for next week in Indianapolis, it appears that Moats has earned a larger share of the rushing load. Slaton can still contribute as a pass-catching threat out of the backfield or split wide -- more so now with tight end Owen Daniels (knee) done for the season.
      (Rotowire.com)
    • RB Steve Slaton or RB Ryan Moats ... who will start for the Texans? "I'm going to play them all," Kubiak said, bringing Chris Brown into the equation. "I'm in no hurry to make that decision, but, obviously, we're going to need all three of them. We'll make a decision when we get to Indianapolis. Protecting Matt (Schaub) is a huge priority. Ryan and Steve are about the same from that standpoint. Chris is probably a little bit better than both of them. That's why we have Chris in a lot of those situations. Hands-wise, they both (Slaton and Moats) have great hands. Steve can go outside like a receiver, so we've got a little more confidence in him in that stand point."
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • Slaton was sent to the bench after losing his fifth fumble of the season in a 31-10 win over Buffalo on Sunday.
Advice: After Ryan Moats came in and became the first player in franchise history to score three touchdowns in one game, totaling 126 yards on the ground, Slaton's situation became very unclear. Gary Kubiak won't say who the starter is going forward, but this doesn't bode well for Slaton's fantasy value either way. Be sure to scoop up Moats if he's still available in your league.
      (STATS, Inc.)
  • Sun, Nov 1
    • Slaton appears to have been benched after losing yet another fumble in the first half of Sunday's game against Buffalo.
Recommendation: Slaton's fumble was his seventh of the season, five of which have been recovered by the defense. With Slaton on the sideline, Houston has been turning to Ryan Moats, who rushed for 126 yards (26 carries) and three touchdowns.

    • Doucet's teammate Anquan Boldin (ankle) is expected to play on Sunday, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Recommendation: This is a bit of a surprise. As a result, Doucet should either be inactive or a minimal part of the Arizona offense.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Thu, Nov 5
    • Doucet will likely split the Cardinals' No. 3 receiver position with Jerheme Urban if Anquan Boldin (ankle) is unable to play on Sunday, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Recommendation: Doucet hasn't appeared in a game this regular season and a part-time role probably wouldn't lead to much Week 9 production.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Wed, Nov 4
    • WR Early Doucet could see his first action of the season Sunday because of Anquan Boldin's ankle injury. With Boldin questionable, the Cardinals might need an extra receiver. Doucet, a third-round pick in 2008, has looked good in practice and coach Ken Whisenhunt has said several times that he wants to work Doucet into the lineup.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
  • Mon, Nov 2
    • Doucet might be active for the first time this season in Week 9, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Recommendation: Anquan Boldin reinjured his right ankle in Week 8 and he might be sidelined or limited in Week 9. The Cardinals only have six receivers on their 53-man roster and one (Sean Morey) plays almost exclusively on special teams. However, even if Doucet plays in Week 9, he isn't likely to receive many targets.

    • White (questionable, knee) returned to practice Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "I anticipate (him) being ready to go on Sunday afternoon," coach Mike Smith said.
Recommendation: The Falcons have an early afternoon start, providing fantasy owners with enough time to cycle in a replacement if White is listed as inactive. We don't expect that to happen, however, so you don't need to be overly concerned about leaving White in your lineup this week.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Thu, Nov 5
    • WR Roddy White leads the team in receiving with 543 yards on 37 receptions, a 14.7-yard average. He is on pace for his third consecutive 1,000-yard season. White set a franchise single-game record with 210 yards in Week 4 at San Francisco while making a career-long 90-yard TD reception.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • White (knee) did not practice Thursday, the Falcons' official site reports.
Recommendation: There's not much in the way of details here, but we should know more after practice Friday once the Falcons are required to release their official injury report.

  • Wed, Nov 4
    • WR Roddy White had 108 yards receiving against New Orleans, marking his second 100-plus game this season and the 16th of his career.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • White (knee) did not practice Wednesday, the Falcons' official site reports.
Recommendation: The Falcons have a short week coming off their Monday night loss to the Saints, so it's possible that White is simply a bit sore from that contest. We haven't heard anything to suggest that this is an injury that will keep him out of any games, but we'll keep you posted.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Tue, Nov 3
    • White had four catches for 108 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 35-27 loss at New Orleans on Monday night.
Advice: White's touchdown catch was impressive and another he nearly caught would have been even better. It's the fourth straight game White has scored and look for many more, particularly with Carolina and Washington on the schedule the next few weeks.
      (STATS, Inc.)
  • Mon, Nov 2
    • White had four catches for 108 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta's 35-27 loss to the Saints on Monday night.
Recommendation: The touchdown came on an impressive catch of a punt-like toss down the right sideline, as White played through some contact, hauled it in, and managed to stay in bounds en route to pay dirt. He wasn't able to work quite the same miracle on a red zone target when he was wide open but had to dive in an attempt to bring in a Matt Ryan misfire.

Recommendation: The Packers waited until Sunday to scratch Finley last week, but they'll cut the suspense in Week 9 and declare him out now. Donald Lee and Spencer Havner will be the Packers' tight ends on Sunday.

    • Finley (knee) did not practice Thursday, the Packers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Finley is unlikely to practice this week and probably won't play Sunday against Tampa Bay. However, Green Bay will play it much like they did last week, testing Finley in workouts on Saturday and Sunday before determining his status. He'll be a game-time decision, but don't count on him for at least another week.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Wed, Nov 4
    • Finley (knee) did not practice Wednesday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Recommendation: Coach Mike McCarthy guess Finley would be in the "questionable to doubtful" range for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, meaning you should once again have another option ready in case Finley again cannot play. He's improving, but he probably won't practice this week.
      (Rotowire.com)

      (Yahoo! Sports)
  • Tue, Nov 3
    • TE Jermichael Finley is a big question mark to recover in time to play in Sunday's game after missing the last outing because of a knee sprain. Finley is the team's top playmaker at tight end with 17 catches for 260 yards (15.3 average) and a touchdown.

    • The Bills are expected to add Parrish's teammate James Hardy (left ACL surgery) to the 53-man roster by Wednesday, The Buffalo News reports.
Recommendation: That would give them seven healthy wideouts, so a roster decision will have to be made. Parrish could be released in what's been his worst season as a pro.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Sun, Nov 1
    • Parrish is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans and will serve as the inactive third QB.

    • Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has not named a starter for Sunday's game in Indianapolis. Kubiak is indicating that Moats, Steve Slaton and Chris Brown will all see action.
Recommendation: Moats, who was very effective replacing Slaton after the starter lost his fifth fumble of the season, will definitely get some carries this week. He's earned that. However, with this much uncertainty at the position, it would be wise to seek a more sure thing at this very important fantasy position.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Thu, Nov 5
    • RB Ryan Moats is usually the third-team back who plays very seldom. In his only appearance in the first seven games, he carried 15 times for 56 yards. When Steve Slaton lost his fifth fumble at Buffalo and was benched, Moats played for the second time. He carried 23 times for 126 yards and a team-record three rushing touchdowns. Chris Browns also carried seven times for 22 yards. Moats, a five-year veteran, was signed by the Texans last season. He had 26 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown in limited playing time behind Slaton. He's 5-8, 208, quick and tough. When he played at Buffalo, he hit the holes so fast he made Slaton appear slow, but some of that could have been because the Bills have the league's worst run defense.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
  • Tue, Nov 3
    • RB Ryan Moats came off the bench at Buffalo to replace Steve Slaton, who lost his fifth fumble. Moats carried 23 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Gary Kubiak won't say who's going to start againt the Colts because he doesn't want to tip them off. He says he'll play all three, including Chris Brown, as he did at Buffalo. Slaton is a better receiver, Brown a better blocker. But Moats is quicker and hits the hole faster and the linemen don't have to hold their blocks as long.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
  • Mon, Nov 2
    • After Steve Slaton was sent to the bench following his fifth lost fumble of the season, Moats took control on Sunday, becoming the first player in Texans history to score three touchdowns in one game in a 31-10 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Advice: Moats rolled up 126 yards on the ground and will likely be the hottest pick-up of the week in fantasy leagues. It's unclear how the carries will be split up between Moats and Slaton going forward, but the veteran and career backup certainly proved he can handle a heavy load with 23 carries against the Bills.
      (STATS, Inc.)
    • RB Ryan Moats rushed for three touchdowns and 123 yards against Buffalo, when he replaced the fumble-prone Steve Slaton. That doesn't mean he'll be the go-to ballcarrier this week, coach Gary Kubriak said. • After taking over for Steve Slaton -- who has had fumble issues this season -- Moats finished Sunday's win over the Bills with 23 carries for 126 yards and three touchdowns.
Recommendation: It remains to be seen if the change will stick or if Moats has peaked, but if you are in a first-come, first-serve league, pick him up now and sort the rest out later.

Recommendation: Driver's absence from practice was starting to become concerning, but he appeared to be fine in Friday's workout. He's topped 50 receiving yards in every game since Week 1 and faces the woeful Buccaneers on Sunday (16 passing touchdowns allowed in seven games).

    • WR Donald Driver missed another day of practice. He is recuperating from a neck injury stemming from a stinger he sustained in the last game. The team is hopeful Driver can practice Friday. If he doesn't practice this week, head coach Mike McCarthy said Driver still could get the go-ahead to play Sunday.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • Driver (neck) missed practice again Thursday, the Packers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Driver said earlier in the week his neck was simply sore, but he's been unable to practice in both workouts this week. Our guess is that he'll be fine for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, but we'll watch this one closely. James Jones would likely step into the starting lineup if Driver can't play.

    • Driver (stinger) did not practice Wednesday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Recommendation: Driver suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the loss to Minnesota, but it's not expected to keep him out of Sunday's matchup with Tampa Bay. He should return to practice either Thursday or Friday.

    • Manningham (shoulder) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against San Diego, Giants.com's Pat Hanlon reports.
Recommendation: This is good news for Manningham owners, since a questionable designation would have made for some tricky lineup decisions. Now that he's expected to play, he can safely be used as a WR3 or flex in most formats.

    • Manningham (shoulder) was limited in Thursday's practice, NFL.com reports.
Recommendation: Manningham's practice participation is encouraging, but we won't feel confident about recommending him until we see him listed as probable on Friday's injury report. Recommendation: Rodgers has been a fantasy dream this season, averaging 284 yards and two passing touchdowns per game. Even if his mobility is a tad limited by the foot injuries on Sunday, he'll still be an elite starter in nearly all formats.

    • Rodgers (toe, foot sprain) is expected to rest again Thursday and practice on Friday, the Green Bay Press Gazette reports.
Recommendation: If you are looking for a sign that the Packers aren't too stressed about Rodgers' Week 9 availability, it's that they have just two quarterbacks on their roster and apparently don't plan to promote Brian Brohm from the practice squad.

    • Rodgers (toe, foot sprain) was at practice Wednesday but did not participate, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Recommendation: The Packers expect Rodgers to start Sunday against Tampa Bay, but they will exercise plenty of caution with his multiple foot injuries in practice. Matt Flynn took all of the practice reps Wednesday and will prepare in case Rodgers can't play, but don't fret over Rodgers' status just yet.
      (Rotowire.com)
    • QB Aaron Rodgers heads back to Tampa, Fla., this weekend not so much better than how he was feeling when he left there last fall. Rodgers' first season as a starting quarterback was in jeopardy after he sustained a badly sprained right (throwing) shoulder in the Packers' 30-21 loss to the Buccaneers on Sept. 28, 2008. Rodgers didn't finish the game and sat out the ensuing week of practice, but he managed to convince the medical staff and head coach Mike McCarthy in a workout mere hours before Green Bay's next game against the Atlanta Falcons that he would be able to play. Rodgers wound up starting every game, but the injury affected him for most of what remained of the season. As the Packers get ready to play the winless Bucs Sunday, Rodgers again might go through a practice week of little to no activity. He suffered a sprained toe and aggravated a sprain in the other foot during last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. McCarthy said the medical staff is erring on the side of caution with Rodgers this week, giving him "as much time as you can to let (the injuries) settle down." Rodgers didn't practice Wednesday, which also might be the case Thursday. The team is targeting to have Rodgers involved in team drills Friday. "I'm confident I'll be playing Sunday," Rodgers said. "I've definitely played with worse." Rodgers leads all quarterbacks with a 110.4 passer rating but also has been sacked a league-high 31 times.

    • QB Aaron Rodgers probably won't do anything of significance in practice until Friday after he suffered a toe sprain on one foot and aggravated a sprain in the other foot during the 38-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Rodgers is expected to be OK to make the start Sunday at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been sacked a league-high 31 times.

  • Mon, Nov 2
    • QB Aaron Rodgers has taken a league-high 31 sacks. The hits are taking a toll on him physically. Rodgers had been coping with a foot sprain going into the last two games. As he was being sacked six times in the Packers' 38-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Rodgers suffered a sprained toe on the other foot. Head coach Mike McCarthy revealed the injury Monday. "Aaron will probably miss some time this week," McCarthy said. The injuries, however, aren't considered serious enough to jeopardize Rodgers' availability for the game Sunday at the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "I don't think it's going to change the way he plays," McCarthy said. "Just visiting with (team doctor Pat) McKenzie, I think they're injuries that just need to settle down a little bit."

    • Delhomme (chest) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, the Panthers' official site reports.
Recommendation: It sounds like he'll be ready to go against the Saints on Sunday after suffering the injury against the Cardinals in Week 8. We'll continue to track Delhomme's progress throughout the week.

    • QB Jake Delhomme was back to work Monday looking at game film of the Saints after suffering a bruised sternum against Arizona. He's expected to start against the Saints. Delhomme made it through his first turnover-free game against Arizona. Delhomme is 6-0 at the Superdome as a starting quarterback, including a 5-0 mark with the Panthers.

    • QB Jake Delhomme is optimistic he'll play this week vs. New Orleans after suffering a chest injury. Delhomme is 6-0 as a starter at the Superdome, including 5-0 with the Panthers and 1-0 with the Saints. Delhomme completed seven of his first nine passes for 90 yards, 50 of those coming on a catch-and-run touchdown pass by Steve Smith, before leaving with a chest contusion. It was Delhomme's first touchdown pass to a receiver.

    • Delhomme, who completed 7-for-14 passes for 90 yards and a touchdown before leaving with a chest injury, said that a CT scan came back negative and that he expects to play against the Saints in Week 9, the Gaston Gazette reports.
Recommendation: Despite the optimism, we're going to keep a close eye on him during practice this week in case the Panthers need to send him in for further tests. The Carolina offense was effective on the ground again in Week 8, limiting the need for Delhomme to attack through the air and keeping him from throwing an interception in a winning effort on Sunday.

    • Delhomme, who was taken to a hospital Sunday for a CT scan to check out his chest injury, said the test results showed nothing irregular, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Recommendation: Delhomme said he expects to play next week at New Orleans, but we'll let you know if that assessment changes.

    • Breaston (right knee) is listed as probable for Sunday's game at Chicago.
Recommendation: He is expected to play against a solid Chicago pass defense. In a bit of a surprise, so is his teammate Anquan Boldin (ankle). Breaston is having a good season as Arizona's No. 3 receiver -- he's on pace for 1,000 receiving yards for a second straight season -- but he would be a better option if Boldin were sidelined.

    • Breaston (right knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Recommendation: He has been playing through this injury for months and we expect him to suit up on Sunday. There is a lot of speculation that Anquan Boldin (ankle) will miss the game, which would lead to an expanded role for Breaston.
      (Rotowire.com)

    • WR Steve Breaston could move into the starting role this week if Anquan Boldin's sore right ankle prevents him from playing. Breaston has been productive before in the starting role.

    • Breaston (right knee) made six catches for 57 yards in Sunday's loss to Carolina. He averaged six yards on four punt returns.
Recommendation: His teammate Anquan Boldin aggravated his sprained right ankle in the third quarter. If Boldin is sidelined or limited in Week 9, Breaston should occupy an expanded role.

Recommendation: As long as Ray Rice and Willis McGahee are healthy, McClain's impact will be limited. Of course, if one of both of the aforementioned duo are hurt at any point, McClain proved last season that he can carry the load when called upon.

    • Hoover (high ankle sprain) missed practice Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reports.

      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • Hoover (ankle) missed practice on Wednesday, the Panthers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Tony Fiammetta also missed practice Wednesday, so the Panthers could be looking at a situation where they're very thin at fullback against the Saints in Week 9. We'll have to wait and see if they make a roster move before the end of the week in order to get a better read on Hoover's status.
      (Rotowire.com)

    • FB Brad Hoover has a high ankle sprain and his status for this week's game is uncertain. Hoover has missed two games already this season because of a back injury and the Panthers lost both -- to Dallas and Buffalo.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • Hoover (ankle) suffered a sprain, not a break as initially feared, in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
Recommendation: He was on crutches after the game, so Hoover's status for the Week 9 game against the Saints appears to be questionable at best right now. The Panthers may need to sign a fullback or two this week as backup Tony Fiammetta left the game in the second half with a head injury as well.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Sun, Nov 1
    • Hoover (back) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Recommendation: Hoover, who has just one carry this season, earns most of his keep as a blocker for DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

    • RB Kevin Smith (shoulder) practiced for the second straight day Friday and coach Jim Schwartz said he's hopeful Smith will play Sunday at Seattle.
      (Yahoo! Sports)
    • Smith (shoulder) practiced again Friday, leaving coach Jim Schwartz "optimistic" that Smith will play against Seattle on Sunday, the Detroit News reports.
Recommendation: The Lions have a late afternoon kickoff Sunday, so you likely won't have the luxury of making a lineup swap if Smith is a surprise inactive. However, the chances of that are slim. Smith should be ready to go, though Maurice Morris may cut into his carries a bit.

    • Smith (shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday, but said he would practice Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reports. "It's pretty sore," Smith said of his shoulder. "Just trying to let it calm down some."
Recommendation: We'll have to see what his level of participation is Thursday, but assuming Smith is out there, it would be a good sign that he'll be available Sunday against the Seahawks.
      (Rotowire.com)
    • RB Kevin Smith is likely to play after leaving Sunday's game against St. Louis with a shoulder injury -- the second such problem he has had this season -- and knows he needs to produce better. Coach Jim Schwartz has talked about breaking big runs. Smith's longest is 20 yards. He averages 3.1 yards per carry. "We're all looking to kind of quiet the critics that Detroit doesn't have a running game," Smith said. "Because I get the ball first, I want to be that tempo-setter and that lead dog. I think enough's enough." The Lions are trying to give Maurice Morris and rookie Aaron Brown a few more carries, while keeping Smith as the No. 1 back. "We've got to, between the three of them, come up with a productive plan in the run game to win," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "We haven't gotten there yet." Smith bristled and declined to comment when asked if the coaches were increasing competition. But earlier he talked about feeling heat. "The coaches have expectations," Smith said. "Of course you want to prove to them that you can do your thing, but the most pressure is coming from myself, because I didn't come in this league to be a bottom-list rusher. ... I've got to stick with it. If it's not going my way, there's two things you can do: You can give up, or you can get better. There's only one option for me."

  • Wed, Nov 4
    • The Lions do not plan on shrinking Smith's role as the feautre back in their offense, despite Maurice Morris' success on Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Recommendation: Morris was playing after Smith aggravated a shoulder injury. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was very clear that Smith is still the starter while Morris remains the backup, saying "It was always the thought that we were going to use two running backs. Kevin is our workhorse running back, getting most of the carries. But we always had in the plan that Maurice was going to carry balls in the game."

    • Fiammetta (concussion) missed practice Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reports.

    • Fiammetta (head) missed practice on Wednesday, the Panthers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Brad Hoover (ankle) wasn't on the field on Wednesday either, so the Panthers may have to look to the free-agent pool for help in the blocking department against the Saints in Week 9.

    • Fiammetta left Sunday's win over Arizona with a head injury, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Recommendation: Brad Hoover suffered a sprained ankle, so the status of both Carolina fullbacks appears to be in question for Week 9 against New Orleans. Look for the Panthers to bring in a veteran or two during the week as potential roster additions if Hoover and/or Fiammetta won't be ready to go against the Saints. While neither fullback is a significant fantasy option, their health could ultimately impact the value of running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

    • Barber (thumb) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, the Dallas Morning News reports.

    • Barber (thumb) participated fully in practice Wednesday.
Recommendation: Felix Jones is snapping up about a third of the carries for Dallas, but Barber still gets enough work to be a viable RB2 in most formats. The thumb injury is not a concern at this point.
      (Rotowire.com)
  • Mon, Nov 2
    • Barber (thumb) ran the ball 14 times for 53 yards Sunday with a touchdown.
Recommendation: The Cowboys spread the ball around this week as five different players ran the ball (not counting a 10 yard Tony Romo scramble) and 10 different players caught passes, but Barber was still able to be productive with the touches he got. Dallas may lean more heavily on their running game next week against the blitz-happy Eagles, so Barber could be in line for a bigger day.
