  • Competition for QB2
Haener appears to be the early frontrunner to serve as the QB2 for the Saints this offseason, John Hendrix of Sports Illustrated reports.

Advice: Haener was suspended for the first six games of his 2023 campaign and has yet to make his NFL debut. However, the 6-foot-1 signal-caller should have a chance to establish himself as QB2 after New Orleans made several changes at the quarterback position this offseason. Last year's No. 2 QB Jameis Winston signed with the Colts in March. Meanwhile, the Saints signed veteran backup Nathan Peterman and fourth-year pro Kellen Mond this offseason before selecting Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Carr is still clearly set as the starter, but the competition to be his primary reserve figures to be wide open this offseason. Haener's experience within the Saints' quarterback room should give him an immediate leg up on Peterman, Mond and Rattler. The 33-year-old Taysom Hill also is listed as a quarterback by the Saints, but he's better described as a multi-use player who regularly slots in at positions across the offense and special teams. It's highly unlikely that the team will carry more than three quarterbacks on the active roster during the 2024 campaign. Therefore, it will be worth monitoring how this competition shapes up during offseason workouts and training camp while projecting this QB depth chart. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:13 pm

  • Waived by Green Bay
Pitts was waived by the Packers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: The wide receiver joined the Green Bay practice squad in December and signed a reserve/future contract in January. Pitts was cut from the Patriots' practice squad before the 2023 season began. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:56 pm

  • Cal McNair: Tank Dell to make ‘full recovery’
Texans owner Cal McNair said WR Tank Dell will make a full recovery from his gunshot wound.

Advice: Dell was struck by a bullet and sustained a “minor gunshot wound” while attending a private event in late April. He was treated for the injury at a local hospital and released shortly after. McNair’s words seem to confirm previous reports that the wound would not place either his rehab or 2024 season in jeopardy. Dell is working his way back from a fibula fracture in Week 13 a season ago but is expected to be ready for the start of the coming season. He’ll face additional target competition after the team signed veteran alpha wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:12 pm

  • Officially lands with Carolina
The Panthers agreed to terms with Penny on Monday.

Advice: Penny is now 28 years old and spent last season in Philadelphia, where he appeared in just three regular-season games and was routinely a healthy scratch on game days. When healthy in Seattle from 2018-2022, he was electric with the ball in his hands, averaging a lethal 5.7 yards per carry on 337 rushing attempts, but an inability to stay on the field was his downfall. He has a history with new Panthers coach Dave Canales from their time together in Seattle, and Penny gives the Panthers backfield some more experience behind Chuba Hubbard and rookie Jonathon Brooks. There has been chatter that Miles Sanders' time may be running out with the team after just one season in Carolina. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:43 pm

  • Burrow ‘looked as quick and as athletic’ as usual
Bengals QB coach Brad Kragthorpe said Joe Burrow “looked as quick and as athletic as I’ve seen him look,” when asked about Burrow’s first day throwing since wrist surgery.

Advice: Burrow surprised everyone on Monday when he took to the field to participate in throwing drills, a moment captured by the team’s social media account. It was an encouraging step towards a return from season-ending wrist surgery, but Kragthrope’s takeaway from the workout is even more encouraging. The quarterbacks coach said Burrow “looked like the Joe Burrow we’re used to seeing” and that he “didn’t see any difference” in his throws, adding he’s happy with where Burrow’s at in his recovery. Wide receiver Andrei Iosivas also praised Burrow for “the amount of power” he has on his throws and said he “was slinging it and really putting some heat on those [passes].” With training camp roughly three months away, Burrow still has plenty of time to build on his recovery, but it sounds like he’s trending toward being ready for training camp. • Not assured of roster spot?
Wilson is part of a crowded backfield alongside Raheem Mostert, De'Von Achane and rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright, Omar Kelly of The Miami Herald reports.

Advice: Wilson may be a favorite of coach Mike McDaniel, but the 28-year-old nonetheless faces a difficult path to earning a roster spot if the three aforementioned RBs stay healthy this summer. With those three being roster locks, the Dolphins may end up having Wilson, Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks competing for one or two spots on the practice squad. Wilson agreed to a contract restructure in March, dropping his base salary to $1.12 million while guaranteeing him $400,000, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:59 am

  • Links with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Guyton to a contract Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Guyton is coming off a 2023 season in which a leg injury forced him to spend the first eight games on the PUP list, and he ended the next eight contests with a disappointing total of 10 catches (on 21 targets) for 89 yards and a touchdown. In the past, Guyton has been a serviceable deep threat, having put up a career-best 31-448-3 line on 48 targets back in 2021. He'll compete for a depth role behind Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Michael Gallup in Las Vegas. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:27 am

  • Should be in mix for steady targets
Robinson could challenge for the team lead in targets even though the Giants took Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to Dan Salomone and Matt Citak of the team's official site.

Advice: The three writers surveyed from Giants.com all agreed Nabers is a favorite to lead the team in targets, with two of the three mentioning Robinson as a candidate to give the rookie a run for his money. A 2022 second-round pick, Robinson got 31 targets on 164 routes (18.9 percent) his rookie year before he suffered an ACL tear, then had 78 looks on 490 routes (15.9 percent) last season. While he's never drawn targets at a particularly high rate, he did have a decent run of production after New York's Week 13 bye last season, averaging 4.8 catches for 52.0 yards over the final five games while taking three carries for 60 yards and a TD. A healthy offseason without rehab from major surgery should help the 23-year-old improve in 2024, though he may still be largely limited to the slot and is both smaller and slower than Nabers. The Giants' other wide receivers -- Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, Isaiah Hodgins, Isaiah McKenzie, etc. -- are all guys that wouldn't be likely to see too many targets even if they got a lot of playing time. Nabers and Robinson mostly figure to work with QB Drew Lock this offseason, as Daniel Jones is still rehabbing from an ACL tear. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:23 am

  • Rapoport: Titans to meet with Zay Jones
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Titans are meeting with free agent WR Zay Jones.

Advice: Jones was let go by the Jaguars after the 2024 NFL Draft concluded. He spent two seasons with the Jags, totaling 116 receptions for 1,144 yards and seven touchdowns over 25 games. He posted a career-high 82-823-5 line in 2022, marking the best year of his eight-year career, but struggled through injuries for much of last season. Jones and Titans OC Nick Holz have spent time together with the Raiders and Jaguars, giving him familiarity with the system that’s expected to be installed in Tennessee. Jones would make for a solid WR3 alongside DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley, and could challenge Treylon Burks for meaningful snaps. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:39 am
