ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Steelers are not expected to pick up Justin Fields’ fifth year option.

Advice: That means Fields, like fellow Pittsburgh QB Russell Wilson, will be a free agent after the 2024 season. Picking up Fields’ fifth year option would have cost the team $25 million in 2025. This season will essentially be a tryout for Fields, 25, that could land him a long-term deal with the Steelers or find him playing elsewhere in 2025. Though Wilson was deemed the Steelers’ starter for 2024 in March, head coach Mike Tomlin has suggested Fields will have a shot to compete for the starting job. Kansas City is optimistic Toney will contribute in 2024, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.

Advice: GM Brett Veach recently referred to Toney as "probably our most talented wideout," and coach Andy Reid said the 25-year-old is "arguably one of the most talented guys on the team." The implication, supported by Veach's comments, is that Toney's lack of playing time last season was a product of his medical issues, starting with a meniscus injury during training camp. Of course, injuries have been a constant for the 2021 first-round pick, who has missed at least four games in each of his three pro seasons and also seen his snaps limited a number of other times, and Toney has never recorded more than six targets or 30 offensive snaps in his 23 total game with Kansas City between the regular season and postseason. An ongoing legal situation involving Rashee Rice could open the door for Toney to get more playing time at some point in 2024, with his YAC ability potentially making him a good fit to see a lot of the quick passes Rice hauled in as a rookie in 2023. Fantasy relevance seems like somewhat of a long shot nonetheless, especially after Toney was a healthy(ish) scratch for the team's Super Bowl win over San Francisco in February. Bengals signed QB Jake Browning to a two-year contract extension.

Advice: Browning filled in admirably for Joe Burrow in 2023, throwing for nearly 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns over seven starts for Cincinnati. Browning had the league’s seventh highest completion rate over expected and tenth best EPA per drop back as the Bengals went 4-3 in his starts. He completed 70 percent of his passes in 2023. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Kadarius Toney is “probably our most talented wideout now.”

Advice: Veach’s comment suggests Rashee Rice could be facing a lengthy suspension for allegedly causing a six-car crash while racing his Lamborghini with another driver in March. Toney, a healthy scratch during Kansas City’s Super Bowl run last year, has been working with Patrick Mahomes in Texas this offseason along with other Chiefs pass catchers. “It doesn’t do anyone any good unless you stay healthy. But the kid has always worked hard here for us and I know he’s been down there with Pat and I think it’s a matter of him staying healthy and I think if he can do that, he can really do a lot of great things in this offense,” Veach said. Toney, 25, has been listed on the injury report in 19 of his 21 games as a Chief. Constant nagging injuries have severely limited his availability, and even when he has been healthy, the team has used him as a rotational player.
