Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that John Brown is still experiencing headaches.

Advice: Arians did insist Brown is "making progress," and that Smokey has been headache free for two days. Brown's recovery has still been alarmingly slow from an early-camp concussion. Speaking Monday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Matt Jones (shoulder) is "progressing nicely."

Advice: Marshall is only supposed to be sidelined three weeks, so it would be a drastic move. Of course, Marshall could be the player the Redskins stash to activate later. Pro Football Talk reports the Broncos are attempting to trade Mark Sanchez.

Advice: This is standard procedure before a team cuts a player who could have value on the trade market. • Broncos announce Trevor Siemian will start
Broncos officially announced Trevor Siemian as their starting quarterback.

Advice: #AsExpected. Despite entering the offseason as the heavy underdog to Mark Sanchez, the 2015 seventh-rounder simply outplayed the veteran throughout training camp and the preseason. Showing a good understanding of the offense and a willingness to push the ball downfield, it is not crazy to think Siemian could perform as well as Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler did for the Broncos last season. With the starting job now set, the focus turns to the battle between first-rounder Paxton Lynch and Sanchez for the No. 2 job. Advice: If true, it would mean New York is all but certain to hang onto Geno Smith, although Mehta adds the team has received "soft interest" for their backup quarterback. The best scenario for the Jets would be for Petty to prove he is ready, allowing them to trade Geno and keep just three quarterbacks. As of now, it does not look like that will happen. The timetable is "at least" because CSN Washington's Chick Hernandez reports Marshall will be "re-evaluated" after three weeks. It is certainly possible the injury-crossed back misses more time. • Mark Sanchez glued to clipboard Saturday
Mark Sanchez didn't play in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: The fact that Sanchez was glued to a clipboard for Denver's regular season dress rehearsal tells you all you need to know about his "competition" with Trevor Siemian, but it doesn't necessarily mean he will be cut. Sanchez is a known commodity to anyone who has watched NFL football since 2009. The Broncos needed to see as much of Siemian and Paxton Lynch as possible. Broncos WR Cody Latimer left the third preseason game with a knee injury.

Advice: It's a disappointing development for a slow-starting receiver who was having a solid camp. • Siemian asserts himself with strong first half
Trevor Siemian completed 10-of-17 passes for 122 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Saturday’s preseason game.

Advice: It wasn’t a perfect outing for Siemian, but it was enough to keep him ahead of Paxton Lynch and Mark Sanchez. Denver got off to a bit of a sluggish start with three-and-outs on its first two drives but things started clicking for Siemian in the second quarter when he threw a one-yard touchdown to Virgil Green on a well-executed play-action pass. Siemian also connected with Demaryius Thomas on a gorgeous 42-yard strike down the right sideline. He did turn the ball over once but Cody Latimer made a minimal effort on a pass that was intercepted by Rams S Cody Davis. Rookie RB Keith Marshall exited Friday night's preseason game with a sprained elbow.

Advice: He is headed for an MRI on Saturday. It's probably a day-to-day injury, but will cost Marshall a big opportunity with Matt Jones (shoulder) inactive. CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler believes the Redskins "really, really want to keep" seventh-round RB Keith Marshall, but he needs to perform.

Advice: Marshall needs to show the team something in the third preseason game. Through two exhibitions, Marshall has rushed 15 times for 25 yards and has fallen behind UDFA Rob Kelley on the depth chart. Appearing on Mike Clay's Sirius Fantasy show, ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold stated that Trevor Siemian "has won the starting job."

Advice: Siemian apparently "won the starting job" in a preseason game he was pick sixed by 49ers FS Eric Reid. More accurately, Mark Sanchez outright lost the starting job with three turnovers in Denver's first two exhibitions, and Paxton Lynch isn't quite ready yet. • Sanchez behind Siemian, may lose roster spot
9 News Denver's Mike Klis confirms Mark Sanchez has fallen behind Trevor Siemian in the Broncos' quarterback battle.

Advice: Sanchez is now in danger of losing the backup job to rookie Paxton Lynch. "The competition may no longer be Siemian vs. Sanchez," wrote Klis, "but Siemian vs. Lynch." Klis suggests Sanchez's roster spot isn't secure if he can't hold off Lynch due to a $4.5 million salary, all of which would come off of Denver's cap were Sanchez cut. • Trevor Siemian starting third preseason game
Trevor Siemian will start Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.

Advice: It puts Siemian squarely in the lead for starting duties, as the third preseason game is a team's regular season dress rehearsal. Siemian hasn't quite sewn up the job in camp and exhibition action, but coach Gary Kubiak is giving him a golden opportunity to change that. Advice: We got mildly concerned as Brown missed nearly three weeks of training camp with the brain injury. It would have been easy to move on from Petty but his emergence means the Jets may end up keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Advice: "I don't think it'll be a long injury," were Gruden's exact words, before adding the injury was a "slight separation of his AC joint." Jones is certainly done for the preseason, but it sounds like he has a good chance to be ready for Week 1. Chris Thompson and Rob Kelley handled first-team work after Jones went down. • Petty throws for 242 yards, 2 TDs in 2nd half
Bryce Petty completed 16-of-26 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns Friday night against the Redskins.

Advice: Petty played the entire second half after Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith split work in the first. The Jets opened with two three-and-outs to start the half, but he put together a nice 9-play drive capped by a 19-yard strike to Zach Sudfeld late in the third quarter. He added a 42-yard score late in the fourth quarter to give New York the lead. Petty once again made some nice throws and for the most part looked competent running the offense.
