  • Texans going back to Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB
Coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Week 13 against the Titans.

Advice: As expected. The Texans will go with the veteran until they're officially eliminated from playoff contention. Either Tom Savage or Thad Lewis will be the No. 2. Fitzpatrick had an eye for DeAndre Hopkins in his nine starts earlier this season, but not much changes from Ryan Mallett to Fitzpatrick. Andre Johnson is a borderline WR2/3. Fitzpatrick is barely an option in two-quarterback leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Redskins confirm Colt McCoy will start Week 13
Coach Jay Gruden confirmed Colt McCoy will start Week 13 against the Colts, and Robert Griffin III has been benched.

Advice: Gruden said he believed McCoy deserved a promotion. The Redskins likely would have won last week in San Francisco had McCoy been under center. McCoy won't be a recommended fantasy option, though he could rack up garbage-time numbers as a QB2 on Sunday in Indianapolis. DeSean Jackson remains a WR2 with big-play upside. Alfred Morris's stock may take the biggest hit, as he's always had more success running the ball with RGIII under center. Rotoworld.com

  • Gus Bradley on Bortles: We expect more
Coach Gus Bradley called out Blake Bortles, saying "We expect more."

Advice: "He can play better," Bradley said. "At times, he holds the ball a little too long. His decision-making isn’t as quick as we need it to be. He’s young, but we expect more." Bortles has been a turnover and sack-taking machine with 15 interceptions and 27 sacks absorbed across nine games and eight starts. The line is part to blame, but Bortles also holds onto the ball too long. Losing Allen Robinson (foot) doesn't help, either, as OC Jedd Fisch took the air out of the ball in Week 12. The Jaguars will hope for some signs of progress the next five weeks. Rotoworld.com

  • Jets bench Michael Vick
The Jets have benched Michael Vick in favor of Geno Smith for Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Advice: Coach Rex Ryan reportedly had no say in the matter, as this was a decision from the higher-ups, aka GM John Idzik. Ryan's merely coaching out the season with his hands tied behind his back, though it doesn't really matter who's at quarterback. Both Vick and Smith are terrible, with Vick looking disinterested at times. The Dolphins should blow the Jets out of the building Monday night. Rotoworld.com

  • Gang Green going back to Geno Smith for Wk 13
The Jets have named Geno Smith their starting quarterback for Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Advice: Unfortunately, we'll all be subjected to this nightmare of a quarterback situation on Monday Night Football. At this point, it doesn't even matter who starts under center for the Jets. Both Smith and Michael Vick are beyond horrible, having nothing but a negative effect on the entire pass game. Eric Decker and Percy Harvin don't receive a boost or downgrade, while Smith is obviously not even an option in two-quarterback leagues. GM John Idzik likely forced coach Rex Ryan's hand here to get one last look at Geno. Rotoworld.com

  • Redskins to announce Griffin's benching
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Redskins will announce Wednesday that Robert Griffin III has been benched for Colt McCoy.

Advice: After watching Redskins tape, NFL Films' Greg Cosell recently noted that RG3 "needs to go back to QB school." He is a mess mechanically and seems to have lost all of his confidence during an abysmal third NFL season. Per Schefter, the Skins still view Griffin as a "significant" part of their long-term plan, and hope to add better talent around him this offseason. With LT Trent Williams (knee/ankle) banged up, they'll throw McCoy to the dogs. Griffin is safe to drop in fantasy leagues of all sizes. It's fair to wonder if he will ever mesh with first-year coach Gruden. Despite Schefter's optimistic report, we suspect they won't. Rotoworld.com

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Redskins are planning to start Colt McCoy in Week 13 at Indianapolis.

Advice: Schefter reports Robert Griffin III remains "a significant part" of the Redskins' long-term plan, but it appears the coaching staff has decided McCoy offers a better chance to be competitive at this moment. Coach Jay Gruden has not been able to run his offense with RG3 under center. McCoy has appeared in two games this year, completing 85.7 percent of his throws for 427 yards with a touchdown and an interception, engineering an upset of Dallas and leading the game-winning drive versus Tennessee. We suspect McCoy will close out the season as the Redskins' starter. Rotoworld.com

Matthew Stafford has been sacked 33 times this season, just three off his career-worst mark from 2011.

Advice: Only Colin Kaepernick has been sacked more times this season (34). Stafford is getting taken down once every 12.6 dropbacks, a preposterous number that's helped contribute to his recent anemic play. Advice: Michael Vick apparently suffered wrist and ankle injuries in Monday's loss. Confusingly, Ryan said his decision "won't be injury-related." ESPN New York confirms Jets coach Rex Ryan is planning to stick with Michael Vick at quarterback for Week 13.

Advice: The New York Daily News had a similar report Tuesday morning. Vick was depressingly bad in Monday night's neutral-site loss to the Bills, and has just 17 completions over his past two starts. With the Jets' season long in the gutter, it's a bit surprising they aren't giving Geno Smith another looksee over the year's final five games. And I have to put the people in there who (are) gonna help us win those games." Gruden went on in the same vein. It's crystal clear RGIII is now at weekly risk of in-game benchings. • Report: Rex wants to go back to Vick Week 13
According to the New York Daily News, Rex Ryan wants to start Michael Vick in Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Advice: Beat writer Manish Mehta couches his report by saying Ryan had to clear his previous decision to change quarterbacks previously with GM John Idzik and owner Woody Johnson. "Override this time is possible too," Mehta says. There's also the issue of Vick's calf, which isn't considered a serious issue but could give the front office an out if they want to see what Geno Smith has over the final five meaningless games. Although Vick was nothing short of atrocious on Monday night, we'd still prefer him to get the nod if we own Percy Harvin or Eric Decker. Rotoworld.com

Joe Flacco completed 18-of-24 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions in the Ravens' 34-27, Week 12 win over the Saints on Monday night.

Advice: It was merely a game of catch for Flacco. The Saints' secondary offered little resistance, while Justin Forsett shredded New Orleans on the ground for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Flacco's lone touchdown pass went to Steve Smith Sr. to cap a nine-play, 97-yard opening drive. Flacco simply threw the ball up in the air, with Smith Sr. making a sensational catch in the end zone while falling to the ground. Drew Brees completed 35-of-45 passes for 420 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Saints' 34-27, Week 12 loss to the Ravens on Monday night.

Advice: Brees averaged a healthy 9.3 YPA, but his night will be most remembered for a pick-six to Will Hill late in the third quarter that put the Ravens ahead on the scoreboard for good. It was Brees' third pick-six of the season, as he's been crippled by back-breaking turnovers all year. His three scores went to Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston, and Graham again. Advice: Speaking Monday, coach Jay Gruden said he had "every intent" to start RGIII against the Colts. RGIII was positively dreadful in Sunday's loss to the 49ers, but received little help from his teammates, particularly his offensive line. Nevertheless, 11 completions for 106 yards is not acceptable at the NFL level, and Griffin will be at risk of in-game benchings for the rest of the season. The Houston Chronicle reports Ryan Mallett (pectoral) is done for the season.

Advice: Brutal. Mallett waited over three years for his chance to become an NFL starter, and it ends after two games, only one of which he was healthy for. Mallett's reward for playing hurt in Sunday's loss was 60 minutes of bad film heading into the open market. It's unclear if the Texans will turn back to Ryan Fitzpatrick, or perhaps go into full-on evaluation mode with fourth-round rookie Tom Savage. Heading into his age-27 season as a statue-esque pocket passer with only 79 career throws, Mallett is going to be a strange case in free agency. Rotoworld.com

We also don't know if Foles will even get his starting job back at that point as he wasn't playing at a very high level prior to the injury. Advice: Manning played one of his better games coming off his five-interception performance against the 49ers. He had two first-half touchdowns to Odell Beckham, and later hit a wide-open Adrien Robinson at the goal-line. Manning's pick was a bad overthrew to Preston Parker in the red-zone that allowed Dallas back in the game. He now has a 5:7 TD/INT ratio over his last three starts. He targeted Dez Bryant a team-high nine times, connecting with him on two of his scores. Romo looked fully healthy coming of the Cowboys' bye. • Kaepernick underwhelming in win over Skins
Colin Kaepernick completed 20-of-29 throws for 256 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the 49ers' Week 12 win over Washington.

Advice: He added nine rushes for 14 yards. Kaepernick kicked off Sunday's scoring with a 30-yard TD dart to Anquan Boldin. As is all too frequently the case, Kap went in the tank thereafter, throwing a third-quarter interception on an ill-advised decision and getting bottled up as a runner. Throw in a fair of lost fumbles by the Niners' running backs and it was a disappointing day for San Francisco's Jekyll & Hyde offense, considering the opponent. Still a one-read quarterback, Kaepernick has a tendency to hesitate when the defense takes away his first read, and he becomes a random streetball-type player thereafter. Advice: Manning and the Broncos got off to another slow start, but gradually kicked it into gear as the Dolphins' defense got more and more injured. The four-score day was Manning's fourth of the season, and leaves him at 34 through 11 games played. That puts him on pace for 49, which would tie Manning's 2004 mark for third-most all time. • Robert Griffin III struggles mightily (again)
Robert Griffin III completed 11-of-19 passes for 106 yards and rushed four times for 11 yards in the Redskins' Week 12 loss to San Francisco.

Advice: He took five sacks and lost a fumble on Washington's final offensive play. One week after RG3 almost single-handedly torpedoed Jay Gruden's offense, the Skins' coaching staff attempted to simplify things for their quarterback by running the ball with a lot of volume against San Francisco's normally stout defensive front. Griffin essentially functioned as a game manager, doing nothing to help a red-hot Alfred Morris. The Skins stayed competitive for longer than expected in this game, but not because of their quarterback. We suppose Griffin deserves credit for "playing hard" against a swarming 49ers' pass rush, although we tend to believe all football players should "play hard." Not even in the fantasy QB1 conversation any longer, Griffin will be a risky two-quarterback-league option in Week 13 against the Colts. Rotoworld.com

Ryan Mallett completed 21-of-45 throws for 189 yards and an interception in the Texans' Week 12 loss to Cincinnati.

Advice: This game was a big step back for Mallett, who continued to flash his powerful arm but was more frenetic and less in control as a pocket player. Mallett's first pass of the second half was intercepted by Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga. The Texans' run game was nonexistent one week after running all over the Browns. Mallett appears to be a quarterback who requires an effective and high-volume rushing attack to succeed. His accuracy is also highly streaky, and generally not very good. Advice: Surgical in a spread offense the Patriots designed specifically to attack Detroit's stout defensive front, Brady found Tim Wright for touchdown throws of 4 and 8 yards in the first half. Brady's lone slip-up was a red-zone interception early in the third quarter intended for Rob Gronkowski. Tom Terrific didn't take a single sack on Sunday. Advice: The Lions' offense has been all kinds of out of sorts this season. That continued Sunday as Detroit was unable to get anything going outside the numbers versus RCB Brandon Browner and LCB Darrelle Revis. Stafford played wildly and panicked, and put a stamp on another miserable game with a fourth-quarter duck interception "complete" to Patriots CB Logan Ryan. Although Stafford has been a major 2014 disappointment, he has a favorable enough schedule to finish strong, facing the Bears twice, the Buccaneers, and the Vikings in the final month of the fantasy football season. Blake Bortles completed 15-of-27 passes for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in the Jaguars' 23-3, Week 12 loss to the Colts.

Advice: He absorbed four sacks for a total loss of 32 yards. Coming off the bye, the Jaguars' offense was horrible, showing no creativity and taking zero shots downfield. Bortles had a couple passes batted at the line and was picked off by Vontae Davis on his first throw of the game. The pass was well behind Marcedes Lewis. Bortles isn't even an option in two-quarterback leagues. Hopefully for the Jaguars' sake, he'll take a step or two forward over the final five games. The Giants are up next for the Jags. • Hoyer, Browns outlast Falcons in ugly game
Brian Hoyer completed 23-of-40 passes for 322 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions in Cleveland's 26-24, Week 12 win over the Falcons.

Advice: Put simply, Hoyer was lucky to escape this one with a win. Hoyer niftily engineered the Browns' game-winning field goal drive, but may not have gotten the chance if not for disastrously-bad clock management from Atlanta's Mike Smith. With the game in fourth-quarter crunch time, Hoyer made two of the worst throws you'll ever see. His pick on 1st-and-goal with 4:59 remaining was arguably the worst decision by any quarterback in 2014. Rolling right on a busted play action, Hoyer back pedaled and threw a jump ball to Josh Gordon off his back foot. It was easily picked by Desmond Trufant. Hoyer made use of his returning star Gordon, but had multiple miscommunications with him, and at least 4-5 terrible targets. Hoyer won't be a recommended QB2 for next week's trip to Buffalo. • Report: RG3 will be on short leash against SF
Sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Robert Griffin III will be on a short leash in Sunday's Week 12 game at San Francisco.

Advice: The Redskins dysfunction continues. Taking over as "Raiders East," they're now leaking that they could yank RG3 in favor of Colt McCoy -- either during Sunday's game or ahead of Week 13. Head coach Jay Gruden sharply criticized Griffin's fundamentals this week and even said the 2012 No. 2 overall pick has been "coddled." The Redskins, 0-2 since RG3 returned from a dislocated ankle, are 9.5-point underdogs Sunday. There's a disconnect between Gruden, who clearly wants a new franchise quarterback, and the front office. • Report: Redskins throw support behind Gruden
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports coach Jay Gruden has received support from upper management following his comments on Robert Griffin III this past week.

Advice: It's been hot at Redskins headquarters since RGIII threw his teammates under the bus after last week's home loss to Tampa Bay. Gruden fired back at his quarterback, saying RGIII needs to worry about himself. Coach also said the "clock's ticking" for RGIII and he's "auditioned long enough." Colt McCoy is a good bet to see more action before the end of the season. The higher-ups in D.C. backing the coach is a change from 2013 when RGIII was the club's golden boy who could do no wrong. The Bills and Jets' Week 12 game will be played at 7ET Monday evening in Detroit.

Advice: It's the second time in five years Detroit has hosted wayward snow travelers, as the Vikings and Giants squared off in Motown on Dec. 13, 2010. It's the most-fair solution, as playing in MetLife Stadium would have been an unfair advantage for the Jets in a game the Bills have to win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Aside from the change of venue, the change of schedule has no fantasy ramifications. All points will count for Week 12 as normal. Rotoworld.com

Advice: "I’ve talked to his previous coaches, people I really trust and admire, that know quarterbacks," Young said. "He doesn’t put the time in." Current Redskins coach Jay Gruden all but confirmed Young's comments by recently stating Griffin has "fundamental flaws" and his footwork is "not even close" to where it needs to be. On Wednesday, Gruden continued to dance around the topic and paint a rose-colored picture. "He could do more probably," Gruden acknowledged, "[but] he studies himself and he comes back with ideas the following day. Whether he's here or not, there's a lot of work you can do. ... • Giants owner gives Manning vote of confidence
Giants owner John Mara recently gave Eli Manning a vote of confidence.

Advice: It's worth noting that Mara's comments came before Manning threw five picks in Sunday's loss to the 49ers. "We still think he's in his prime and still has a lot of good years left," Mara said optimistically. "It lifts the whole franchise when you have a quarterback who can play at that level." Fans and writers can often be far too quick to write off players, but Manning's TD:INT ratio is now 36:38 since the start of last season. He's posted a 6.9 YPA and 75.8 QB rating during the same timespan. Manning turns 34 in January, and 2015 is the final year of his contract. Zach Mettenberger completed 15-of-24 passes for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Titans' 27-24, Week 11 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Mettenberger has a long delivery with cement blocks for feet. He needs plenty of time to load up and release the ball, but the Titans’ offensive line gave him enough time against a defense that was minus Troy Polamalu, Ryan Shazier, Ike Taylor, and Steve McLendon. Despite throwing a pick-six to William Gay on his first pass, Mettenberger picked on Gay all night, hooking up with Nate Washington for an 80-yard touchdown and Justin Hunter for a 36-yard gain behind Gay. He dialed up short passes to Kendall Wright for chunk gains, utilizing Wright’s post-catch ability. It was easily Mettenberger’s best start of the season, but he has a long way to go in his development and won’t have the luxury of facing the Steelers every week. He’s not even a recommended option in two-QB leagues. The Eagles are up next for the Titans. Rotoworld.com

The Redskins aren't considering benching Robert Griffin III.

Advice: However, coach Jay Gruden was fairly blunt with his assessment of RGIII in Sunday's ugly loss, saying he displayed some "fundamental flaws," and that his footwork was "not even close" to where it needs to be. Gruden's comments run in direct opposition to Griffin's, who largely placed the blame for his dismal performance on his teammates. Gruden took umbrage with those comments. Advice: "Right now I plan on sticking with Kyle, and I believe in every player, not just the quarterback player, who gives us the best chance to win," a long-winded Marrone said. "That’s the way we’re headed this week." The "right now" sticks out for Marrone, who has been perhaps the least-truthful coach in the NFL throughout his 11-15 tenure in Buffalo. Tom Brady completed 19-of-30 passes for 257 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in New England's 42-20, Week 11 win over the Colts.

Advice: Brady struggled early, with two interceptions to Colts FS Mike Adams. The gameplan didn't call for him to do much this week, but he managed to salvage his night with a pair of second-half touchdowns. Brady's first score was a play-action pass to Tim Wright at the goal-line, and he later hit Rob Gronkowski from 26 yards out. It was the first time he was held under three touchdowns since Week 5. Matthew Stafford completed 18-of-30 passes for 183 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in Detroit's 14-6, Week 11 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Stafford also committed a fumble, but the Lions recovered. Stafford has historically struggled in the desert, and today wasn't any different. He had little time to throw, which was a bad combination with Arizona's sticky coverage of Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. Stafford's pick was an ill-advised deep ball to Megatron. Stafford was expected to take off with the return of his No. 1 receiver, but has instead been shaky through two tough matchups. Brian Hoyer completed 20-of-50 pass attempts for 330 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the Browns' Week 11 loss to Houston.

Advice: He also lost six yards on three scrambles. Hoyer's accuracy has been an issue all season, and continued to be against the Texans, missing seemingly countless throws at the short and intermediate range. You read that right -- Hoyer had a whopping 50 pass attempts -- and the Browns won't want to play that way moving forward. Ryan Mallett completed 20-of-30 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Texans' Week 11 win over the Browns.

Advice: He didn't take a single sack. The Texans "protected" Mallett with a season-high 54 rushing attempts, and he should have been picked off by Browns OLB Paul Kruger in the second quarter, but Kruger flat-out dropped it. Several of Mallett's throws were off target early, but otherwise he showed complete command of Bill O'Brien's offense and restored an intermediate and deep-ball element to a Texans passing attack that lacked it with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the controls. We're hesitant to deem Mallett anything more than a lower-end two-quarterback-league option entering Week 12 against the Bengals. He does deserve credit for a solid NFL starting debut. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Kaepernick was not sharp once again. His best throw was a strike down the middle of the field to Michael Crabtree, who did the rest by out-running the defense for a 48-yard touchdown. Other than that, Kaep dinked, dunked and failed to find a lot of room with his legs. It was a game-managing kind of performance and his fourth straight game with just one touchdown. Advice: The 4-6 Falcons are laughably now in first place in the NFC South. Ryan hasn't thrown for 300 yards since Week 5 and has tossed one or fewer touchdowns five of the past six games, so he's not producing many fantasy points. Advice: Griffin threw interceptions on the first two drives, including a pick-six to Bucs CB Jonathan Banks. The interceptions both came on deflections, but Griffin missed open throws to DeSean Jackson downfield and wasn't accurate in the short pass game. His touchdown came on a 30-yard screen pass to Roy Helu at the end of the first half. Griffin added six carries for 41 yards and continued to look good as a runner. Advice: It was death by dinking and dunking for Brees, who rarely put any air under his throws against a Bengals defense that took away the back end of the field. Brees set the tone early, missing a few easy passes that might have gotten the Saints off to a better start. In a bizarre season for Brees and the Saints, today was easily their least-inspiring performance. Brees is now the owner of a 6.21 YPA over his past two starts. Advice: Bad Eli face was out in full effect, even against a depleted 49ers secondary. So after a five-game streak that saw Manning throw just one pick, we're back to square one heading into a Week 12 home game against the Cowboys. Peyton Manning completed 34-of-54 passes for 389 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Broncos' 22-7, Week 11 stunning loss to the Rams.

Advice: The Rams thoroughly and surprisingly dominated this one from start to finish. They sacked Manning twice, and pummeled him into the turf a handful of times in total, with Robert Quinn whipping LT Ryan Clady on a consistent basis. The Rams were also credited with 12 pass breakups, as they were swarming the ball. The defensive backs were hunting receivers, drilling them at every opportunity, and Emmanuel Sanders was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Julius Thomas exited in the first quarter with an ankle injury, so Manning only had Demaryius Thomas and C.J. Anderson to throw to for much of the day. Advice: He managed nine yards on five carries. Bridgewater is small and plays small in the pocket, and got nothing going outside of dump-off completions against arguably the NFL's worst pass defense. The adverse weather conditions -- snow and bitter cold -- seemed to affect Bridgewater throughout the game, and he was indecisive with his reads. The Bears' pass rush suddenly appeared rejuvenated. Per Schefter, "Hoyer trusts (Texans coach Bill) O'Brien as much as any coach in the league" after their time together in New England, and Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt worked with Hoyer for a brief spell in Arizona. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi believes the Browns are more likely to let contract-year QB Brian Hoyer walk in free agency than re-sign him.

Advice: Ace beat writer Grossi is simply reading between the lines. But he points out that GM Ray Farmer has yet to give Hoyer a ringing endorsement as the Browns' quarterback, while Grossi gets the sense the team "brass" are very confident Johnny Manziel will be able to make every play Hoyer makes now, plus more, after sitting and learning for one season.
