  • Christine Michael nursing hamstring injury
Christine Michael missed practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury and won't play in the preseason finale.

Advice: The Seahawks re-signed RB Demitrius Bronson to carry some of the load Thursday. Michael's preseason ends with 23 carries for 89 yards (3.9 YPC) and one score. He also caught seven balls for 56 yards and another TD. Despite the strong preseason, Michael is still No. 3 on the depth chart.

  • Daniel Thomas to play in preseason finale
Daniel Thomas (hamstring) will play in the Dolphins' preseason finale.

Advice: He better. Thomas is on the roster bubble. He's missed most of camp and the first three preseason games with a balky hamstring. Thomas is competing with UDFAs Damien Williams and Orleans Darkwa for the No. 3 job. No longer on scholarship under ex-GM Jeff Ireland, Thomas needs to turn heads Thursday.

  • Phillip Tanner back with DAL for now
    Cowboys signed RB Phillip Tanner.

Advice: Tanner was brought back simply to carry the load on Thursday night. Joseph Randle (oblique) and Ryan Williams (groin) are both fighting minor injuries. Look for Tanner to be back on the waiver wire come Saturday.

  • Jeremy Hill & Gio Bernard to share carries?
According to's Geoff Hobson, "it looks like (Giovani) Bernard and (Jeremy) Hill could both get about 200 attempts" on the ground this season.

Advice: Hobson notes that Hill "changed the tenor" of Cincinnati's third preseason game against Arizona, and expects the rookie's "power running" to be a particular "boon" against division rivals Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Hobson also wonders if BenJarvus Green-Ellis may have played his final game as a Bengal. Clearly the best inside runner on the Bengals' roster, Hill continues to be severely undervalued at his mid-10th-round ADP. If Gio only winds up with 200 carries, it's going to be difficult to reach the 300 touches many have projected him for.

  • Chris Polk projected to make final roster
The Philadelphia Inquirer is projecting Chris Polk to stick on the final roster.

Advice: Both Jeff McLane and Zach Berman have the Eagles keeping the same four running backs on their 53: LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Polk and Kenjon Barner. It leaves Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey as practice squad candidates. Polk, who is back practicing despite a nasty hamstring pull, projects as the primary runner should anything happen to McCoy this season.

  • Christine Michael still listed as No. 3 back
Christine Michael is still listed as the No. 3 running back on the Seahawks' official depth chart.

Advice: Michael has been running behind Robert Turbin all summer, and couldn't officially leapfrog him in the third preseason game. Michael did split time with Turbin, however, even getting some red-zone carries with the first-team offense. Both players would have roles were Marshawn Lynch to go down with injury. Turbin's overall polish is the only thing keeping him ahead of Michael's electrifying raw ability.

  • Patriots officially send Tyler Gaffney to IR
Patriots placed RB Tyler Gaffney (knee surgery) and LB Cameron Gordon (undisclosed) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.

Advice: A sixth-round pick of the Panthers, Gaffney was claimed off waivers in July. He tore his left lateral meniscus in the early days of camp. The Panthers waived/injured him, trying to sneak him through to I.R., but the Patriots pounced. Gaffney had impressive Combine measurables and college statistics, but underwhelming tape. He'll fight for one of the Pats' final roster spots in 2014.

  • Dolphins send RB Gillislee to injured reserve
Dolphins placed RB Mike Gillislee on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.

Advice: It's possible Gillislee is eventually cut loose with an injury settlement. A 2013 fifth-rounder, Gillislee managed only three appearances as a rookie, turning in six carries for 21 yards. If Gillislee survives the season and offseason on the roster, he'll be a long-shot to crack the 53-man roster in 2015.

Steelers waived RB Tauren Poole, DE Brian Arnfelt, C Chris Elkins, OT Emmanuel McCray, NT Hebron Fangupo and LS Luke Ingram.

Advice: It's a quiet list, one full of first- and second-year undrafted free agents. Poole made it to final cuts with the Panthers in 2013, but getting waived at this stage of the game suggests he won't crack anyone's practice squad.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Bob McGinn writes that DuJuan Harris has made a push for the Packers' No. 2 running back job, and "it's anyone's guess" if it's Harris or James Starks.

Advice: "That's a question that has yet to be determined," said RBs coach Sam Gash. Harris lost a fumble in the Pack's second preseason game. He came back and exploded for 98 yards on 14 touches in Friday's dress rehearsal against the Raiders. Harris and Starks mixed in with the second-team offense after Lacy left the game. Coach Mike McCarthy loved Harris before he ruptured his patellar tendon last August. It's a battle worth watching closely.

49ers waived or released RB Jewel Hampton, S D.J. Campbell, WR Devon Wylie, QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson, TE Kevin Greene, P Colton Schmidt, WR David Reed, and ILB Kion Wilson.

Advice: Hampton was liked by the 49ers last year, but he was bringing up the rear of the depth chart. McBLT was the No. 4 quarterback. Wylie is a slot receiver-only.

Advice: Wood was a priority UDFA addition after the 2013 draft by the Texans and won their No. 3 tailback job. • Jeremy Hill finally gets some first-team reps
Jeremy Hill rushed 10 times for 38 yards and caught two passes for nine yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

Advice: BenJarvus Green-Ellis (hip) and Rex Burkhead (knee) both sat out. Still, it was encouraging to see Hill check in for the Bengals' fifth series of the game and show far more efficiency than Giovani Bernard while making his first-team debut. He ended up playing on 10 first-half snaps compared to 27 for Bernard, usage that would make sense if the Bengals want to have an inside running presence this season. Green-Ellis' status on the team still remains unclear, but we like Hill to emerge as the big-back complement here.

Advice: Thomas won't play despite returning to practice this week. He's yet to appear in a preseason game and is in danger of losing his roster spot. UDFA Damien Williams will be the No. 3 back through Miami's rotation. Knowshon Moreno and Charles Clay are active, as expected.

Eagles RB Chris Polk (hamstring) returned to practice Saturday.

Advice: Polk has been out since the second day of camp with a partial hamstring tear. A good showing in the fourth preseason game would go a long way in securing Polk's roster status.

  • Shaun Draughn struggles against SEA backups
Bears RB Shaun Draughn rushed four times for four yards in Friday night's third preseason game at Seattle.

Advice: Draughn operated as Chicago's No. 2 back in each of the first two exhibition weeks, but the Bears gave rookie Ka'Deem Carey the backup nod in this one. It's abundantly obvious Chicago wants Carey to grab the reigns there, and Draughn did nothing to help himself against the Seahawks' backup defenders. On the preseason, Draughn has eight carries for 39 yards, and three catches for 22 yards.

  • C-Mike has nice night against the Bears
Christine Michael rushed eight times for 28 yards and caught 3-of-3 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' third preseason game.

Advice: He was the third Seahawks back to enter, behind Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin. Michael and Turbin both got first-team run after Lynch departed, however, with C-Mike handling deep red-zone carries toward the end of Seattle's second drive. Perhaps most promisingly, Michael executed on a first-quarter blitz pickup of Lance Briggs. There are no questions about Michael's running ability, but he still needs to polish the finer points of his game. He fumbled in each of the Seahawks' first two preseason affairs, but displayed ball security on Friday night and was very active in the passing game, which has historically been a weakness for C-Mike. He's a high-upside Dynasty stash, albeit with injury-dependent re-draft value.

  • DuJuan Harris impressive, mixes with Starks
DuJuan Harris rushed 12 times for 56 yards and caught two passes for 42 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Raiders.

Advice: Coming off a ruptured patellar tendon, Harris was surprisingly quick and explosive. It's something coaches must have seen in practices, as he mixed with No. 2 back James Starks after Eddie Lacy left. Through three preseason games, Harris has 26 carries for 106 yards and five catches for 50 yards. If Lacy were to go down in the regular season, Harris appears to have earned a role.

  • Jeremy Hill likely to work with ones Sunday
Bengals OC Hue Jackson said rookie RB Jeremy Hill is "worthy of playing" with the starting offense and will likely get some work with the ones in Sunday's third preseason game.

Advice: Hill has worked with the twos and threes through the first two weeks of the preseason, though Jackson said he actually thought Hill had already gotten some run with the ones. Jackson isn't concerned about Hill's ability to sync with the starters, saying he thinks "that's a little overrated -- runners run." While BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been the second back through the rotation so far, Hill's clearly the more talented runner. He's over his shoulder "injury." We feel comfortable projecting Hill as the 1B to Gio Bernard's 1A.

Following Thursday night's third preseason game, coach Chip Kelly noted that Chris Polk (hamstring) better be looking over his shoulder.

Advice: Polk hasn't played at all this preseason with a slightly torn hamstring. While he's been out, UDFAs Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey have been running the ball well behind LeSean McCoy. The Eagles also traded for Kelly favorite Kenjon Barner. Polk's roster spot is in danger after he opened training camp as the heavy favorite for No. 2 ball-carrying duties behind McCoy.

  • Carroll: RB Michael 'most improved player'
Speaking Thursday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll called Christine Michael the "most-improved player on the team."

Advice: They're well-timed comments for fantasy owners, as Michael has been running as the Seahawks' No. 3 running back this summer. Carroll's remarks are a reminder that the Seahawks remain bullish on their 2013 second-rounder. Michael's game is not as well-rounded as Turbin's at the moment, but he boasts rare raw-rushing ability. Michael could still make a 2014 impact. Dynasty-league owners have to remain patient.

    Colts waived RB Phillip Tanner.

Chris Polk revealed he suffered a Grade 2 partial tear of his hamstring on the second day of Eagles camp.

Advice: He obviously hasn't practiced since, and won't play in Philly's regular season dress rehearsal. Polk admitted to feeling a "pop" in the hamstring, and plans to practice next week even if he's not fully recovered. The Eagles' trade for Kenjon Barner shows they're well aware their backfield is short on depth. Darren Sproles isn't really a ball-carrying option anymore. Michael Tucker and UDFA Henry Josey are next on the running back depth chart.

  • Jeremy Hill (shoulder) back on practice field
Rookie RB Jeremy Hill is practicing at Bengals camp after suffering a shoulder injury in Saturday night's preseason game.

Advice: Hill tweeted after the game that his shoulder is "fine," and he's practicing without limitations. Bengals beat writer Paul Dehner has projected Hill for 10-15 carries per game this season, but to this point Giovani Bernard has handled every single first-team exhibition game rep. We'll keep a close eye on Hill's usage in the Bengals' regular season dress rehearsal. The rookie power back has 52 yards on nine carries (5.78 YPC) and two receptions for 13 yards through two preseason games. Bernard has 10-32, with two catches for 15 yards.

  • Polk plans to practice at less than 100 per.
Eagles RB Chris Polk (hamstring) plans to resume practicing next week even if he's not 100 percent.

Advice: Polk believes his roster spot is in danger. "There's nothing guaranteed," Polk said Tuesday. "I wasn't drafted. I'm not LeSean McCoy, Nick Foles, I'm not guaranteed anything." It's an admirable, but risky, attitude. Polk would ultimately have more to lose than gain by practicing at less than 100 percent. The Eagles are unlikely to let him. Polk's injury has opened the door for second-year UDFA Matthew Tucker.

Advice: In an important note for Matt Forte handcuffers, Draughn has beaten out unimpressive rookie Ka'Deem Carey. However, it's unlikely Draughn would be a true feature back if Forte went down. He's averaged 3.73 YPC in his career and been waived by both the Chiefs and Ravens in the last two seasons.

Daniel Thomas missed the Dolphins' second preseason game with a hamstring injury.

Advice: He also missed Miami's exhibition opener. Thomas has been sidelined for at least two weeks, which should continue to decrease his odds of making the Dolphins' 53-man roster. If Knowshon Moreno gets healthy, it's conceivable the Fins could go with just three backs: Lamar Miller, Moreno, and UDFA Damien Williams. Mike Gillislee is also on the shelf with a balky hamstring.

Advice: Speaking Sunday morning, coach Marvin Lewis expressed no concern about Hill, noting that the only potentially-significant injury the Bengals suffered was by backup RB Rex Burkhead. Hill was dinged up after managing 26 yards on five touches against the Jets' backups. We'll keep an eye on Hill's practice participation this week. For now, it looks like he's avoided serious injury.
