    • Drew Stanton surprisingly back at practice
Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (sprained ACL, MCL) returned to practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.

Advice: It's an eye-brow raiser, but there's still little reason to believe Stanton will be ready to return just 10 days after spraining his knee. The Cardinals are likely just trying to confuse the situation for the Seahawks. It is a sign, however, that Week 17 could be a realistic possibility. Stanton's status will be updated on Friday, but we fully expect Ryan Lindley to be under center for Week 16. Rotoworld.com

    • Jay Cutler realistic about Bears future
Speaking Thursday, Jay Cutler said he hopes to remain with the Bears beyond 2014, but admitted that it's "definitely" crossed his mind that he may have played his final game in Chicago.

Advice: Admitting he was disappointed by the first benching of his football-playing career, Cutler was realistic about his future in the Windy City. Cutler's seven-year, $126.7 million deal will get labeled as impossible to trade, but that's not necessarily true in a league so starved for quarterback talent. It will only take one team to believe it has what it takes to jump-start Cutler's career. Releasing Cutler isn't a realistic option for the Bears, as they'd absorb $19 million in dead money. Cutler is due a fully guaranteed $15.5 million in 2015. Rotoworld.com

    • Trestman: Clausen is one-week experiment
Speaking Thursday, Bears coach Marc Trestman left the door open for benched QB Jay Cutler to start in Week 17.

Advice: "This is for this week," Trestman said. "We're not going any farther than our preparation for Detroit." Trestman is clearly trying to keep Cutler's spirits up, but barring a total face-plant from Jimmy Clausen, we'd expect Cutler to remain on the pine for Week 17. Trestman went on to say he believed Cutler could be "revived" from the benching, hinting he's expected to remain the team's quarterback in 2015. That's probably an honest belief, but it's unlikely to be Trestman's decision to make. Clausen doesn't give the Bears a better chance to win than Cutler, but leading the league in turnovers and regressing on a weekly basis, Cutler has little room to complain about being benched. • Cam Newton 'on target' to start versus Browns
Cam Newton (back) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, and is "on target" to start Sunday's game against the Browns.

Advice: Barring a setback, coach Ron Rivera expects Newton to "probably" start over Derek Anderson. It's a huge boost for the Panthers as they try to stay alive in the NFC South. Newton had his best game of the season in Week 14 before his car accident, but will be a borderline QB1 if he suits up for the fantasy finals. His health is obviously a question mark, and the Browns sport a stouter defense than New Orleans. Rotoworld.com

    • Report: Keenum tentatively expected to start
CBS' Jason La Canfora says "every expectation" is that Case Keenum will start Sunday's game against the Ravens.

Advice: Bill O'Brien isn't tipping his hand between Keenum and Thad Lewis. But Keenum makes more sense as he was with the team throughout the offseason program and training camp before losing his backup job to Tom Savage and Ryan Mallett. However, Keenum was brutal in four preseason games going 28-of-52 (53.8%) for 254 yards (4.88 YPA) with zero touchdowns and two interceptions, good for a 51.3 passer rating. He's not even a two-quarterback league option against a Ravens defense that can cover their secondary woes with a swarming front seven. Rotoworld.com

Advice: The Bears benched Jay Cutler, leaving Clausen to make his first start since 2010. Per NFL Network's Mike Silver, Bears players believe Clausen will "light it up" in Marc Trestman's quarterback-friendly scheme "simply because he'll run the offense as prescribed." • Bears bench Cutler, Clausen to start Week 16
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bears will start Jimmy Clausen over Jay Cutler in Week 16 against the Lions.

Advice: The Bears are benching Cutler just 14 starts into his seven-year, $127 million extension. Per NFL Network's Mike Silver, coach Marc Trestman felt he could no longer start Cutler "simply to justify a contract" when his on-field play was so poor. Cutler regressed in his second season in Trestman's offense, leading the NFL in turnovers (24). Owed a fully guaranteed $15.5 million next year, the Bears' only option is to trade Cutler this offseason if they want to move on from him. Chicago would absorb $19 million in dead money by releasing Cutler before 2016. Rotoworld.com

McCoy completed 71.1 percent of his 128 pass attempts for coach Jay Gruden, posting an 8.26 YPA and 4:3 TD:INT ratio in the process. Jay Cutler completed 17-of-31 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in the Bears' 31-15, Week 15 loss to the Saints on Monday night.

Advice: The matchup couldn't have been much better for Cutler, but he predictably went all DGAF on us and took seven sacks, missed open receivers, and turned the ball over another three times. Both of his touchdowns came late in the fourth quarter. He hooked up with Marquess Wilson for a one-yard score to bring the score to 24-8, and then found Alshon Jeffery for the garbagiest of garbage-time touchdowns from seven yards out with 30 ticks left on the clock. However, coach Bruce Arians continues to insist he'll install a "package" of plays for Thomas against the Seahawks. It makes essentially no difference who gets the call against Seattle. • Drew Stanton (knee) undergoing Friday MRI
Drew Stanton (knee) will undergo an MRI on Friday.

Advice: Whereas it was immediately apparent that Carson Palmer's knee injury was serious, the Cardinals apparently aren't sure what they've got in Stanton's. They also aren't sure if they'll be going with third-year pro Ryan Lindley or fourth-round rookie Logan Thomas if Stanton is out for Week 16. Coach Bruce Arians said Lindley's "experience" was the deciding factor in going with him on Thursday evening. Whoever starts will be getting thrown to the wolves vs. Seattle. Rotoworld.com

    • Bears OC Kromer admits he criticized Cutler
Bears OC Aaron Kromer admitted to the team on Monday that he was an anonymous source in a recent NFL Network report criticizing Jay Cutler.

Advice: That would be Ian Rapoport's "serious buyer's remorse" report, though a "tearful" Kromer "adamantly denied" making the buyer's remorse comments. Whatever Kromer did or didn't exactly say, it's a stunning admission, and indicative of Raiders/Redskins-level dysfunction in Chicago. It's appearing less and less likely that coach Marc Trestman is going to keep his job. Not only has his defense collapsed, but his once-prolific offense has bordered on unwatchable many times over the past 5-6 weeks. Kromer's unprofessional act is going to earn him sideways glances the next time he's looking for a job. Rotoworld.com

    • Ryan Lindley fills in for Drew Stanton
Filling in for an injured Drew Stanton (knee), Ryan Lindley completed 4-of-10 passes for 30 yards in the Cardinals' 12-6, Week 15 win over the Rams.

Advice: Stanton was injured early in the third quarter. Lindley has been on the roster for just 30 days, but got the call over fourth-round rookie Logan Thomas. It's possible coach Bruce Arians still views Thomas as his No. 2, but didn't want to throw him into the fire on the road against an elite defense. Lindley wasn't anything resembling functional, struggling to command the offense while making poor throws. Although he made four starts for the doomed 2012 Cardinals, he couldn't be considered a competent guiding hand were Stanton done for the season. Whatever happens, the Cardinals are in ridiculously bad shape at quarterback. It's a shame for an 11-3 team. Rotoworld.com

    • Drew Stanton leaves game with knee injury
Drew Stanton was forced from Arizona's Week 15 game against the Rams with a right-knee injury, and will not return.

Advice: Stanton could put no weight on his leg before being carted to the locker room. It's possible his season is in doubt. Stanton was replaced by recent practice-squad signee Ryan Lindley, and not fourth-round rookie Logan Thomas. Stanton was struggling mightily before departing, completing just 12-of-20 passes for 109 yards. Stanton was routinely throwing behind his pass catchers, often hanging them out to dry against the Rams' ferocious defense. Rotoworld.com

    • Panthers unsure when Cam Newton will practice
The Panthers are unsure when Cam Newton (back) will resume practicing.

Advice: Newton has yet to be formally ruled out for Week 15, but that should happen on Friday. The real question is his Week 16 status. The Panthers' decision could be affected by the way things play out in the NFC South this weekend. Amazingly, the 4-8-1 Panthers are still alive for the division crown. • Colt McCoy expected to start versus Giants
Speaking after Thursday's practice, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Colt McCoy (neck) "looked fine," and hinted he'll be under center for Week 15.

Advice: "We're still waiting on full clearance from Colt," Gruden said. "Colt had a good day today, and so long as he goes through the proper necessary precautions and make sure he gets clear, Colt will be the starter." Going down with the McCoy ship is an interesting strategy for a coach with two better quarterbacks on the roster, but Gruden is obviously convinced he gives the 'Skins their best chance to win. McCoy will be a bottom-barrel QB2 against the Giants if he indeed suits up. He's off the radar in daily leagues. Rotoworld.com

    • Colt McCoy taking first-team reps Thursday
Colt McCoy (neck) has taken the first reps of position drills each of the past two days.

Advice: McCoy was officially limited in Wednesday's practice, and likely will be again Thursday, but observers have noted McCoy seems to be moving around fine after straining his neck in Week 14. Signs point to McCoy getting the start against the Giants, but coach Jay Gruden has yet to formally announce a decision. Rotoworld.com

Colt McCoy (neck) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

    • Cam Newton (back) released from the hospital
Cam Newton was released from the Carolinas Medical Center on Wednesday morning after spending the night in the hospital following his Tuesday car accident.

Advice: The Panthers are calling Newton day-to-day. He's dealing with general soreness and two fractured transverse processes in his back. Newton is fully expected to sit out Week 15 against the Bucs, leaving Derek Anderson in the saddle as the starter. Anderson completed 24-of-34 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 1 spot start against Tampa Bay. He'll be on the DFS radar at minimum price. Newton has a shot to play Week 16 against Cleveland. Rotoworld.com

The Charlotte Observer reports Cam Newton (back) is likely to miss Week 15.

Advice: "Right now it's all about Cam's well being," were the words of a Panthers spokesman. Newton is dealing with two transverse process fractures in his lower back, an injury that cost Tony Romo a game earlier this season. It's not a long-term issue, but could threaten the rest of Newton's 2014. Rotoworld.com

    • Colt McCoy's neck injury isn't long-term
The neck injury Colt McCoy sustained Sunday is reportedly not long-term.

Advice: According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Redskins will wait to see how McCoy's neck progresses before making a call on his status. There's no structural damage. If McCoy gets cleared, we'd expect Jay Gruden to stick with him. If not, Gruden will have to do what he clearly dreads: Turn back to Robert Griffin III. Rotoworld.com

    • Nick Foles will be examined after Dallas game
Nick Foles (collarbone) is due for a follow-up exam next week.

Advice: It's been five weeks since Foles broke his collarbone. He's hoping to get cleared to practice following this week's showdown with the Cowboys, but that's far from a guarantee. It's also unclear if Foles would even get his job back from Mark Sanchez if cleared before the end of the season. Rotoworld.com
