  • Mort: Bengals getting Peerman ready
According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Bengals are "getting [Cedric] Peerman ready as a complimentary back to Jeremy Hill."

Advice: Gio Bernard (hip) is in doubt for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He couldn't finish last week's game and did not practice on Wednesday. The change-of-pace type Peerman has been on the fringe of Cincy's roster for the last five seasons, rushing just 54 times. The real winner if Gio sits, of course, would be rookie power back Jeremy Hill. He'd take on feature duties and would be a candidate for 20 touches. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Sims to push for 10+ touches Sunday?
Bucs beat writer Greg Auman sees 10-plus touches for Charles Sims (ankle) Sunday.

Advice: It sounds like a lot for a rookie that has been on IR/return all season, but it speaks to the kind of role the Bucs want him to have. Doug Martin (ankle) is in a walking boot and highly questionable, possibly leaving Sims and Bobby Rainey as the top-two backs against the Browns' No. 30 run defense Sunday. "There's no doubt, when (Sims) is ready to go, he will give us a spark," coach Lovie Smith said. "I feel pretty confident in saying that." Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Vick says he'll play with control
New Jets starter Michael Vick says he has "to play with some type of control."

Advice: After relieving Geno Smith against the Bills last week, Vick committed three turnovers in three quarters. "Last week, I got too greedy," he said Wednesday. "I was trying to play like a 24-year-old Mike Vick." We don't expect Vick to shed his turnover- or injury-prone label, but he does have some fantasy upside thanks to his still dominant legs. Ideally, streamers will use him in a Week 10 home game against the Steelers rather than at Arrowhead against the Chiefs Sunday. Note that while starting for the Eagles in the first four games of last season, Vick averaged 270.0 pass yards, 57.0 rush yards and 1.7 total touchdowns per game. He knows this Marty Mornhinweg offense well after their time together in Philly. Rotoworld.com

Coach Mike Pettine said Johnny Manziel is "frustrated" that he's not starting, but the Browns "don't plan to force the issue."

Advice: Brian Hoyer has been an effective game manager, but the Browns are starting to consider the opportunity costs of sitting Manziel. "I think we all [want to know how Manziel would perform]. That's a question we need to have answered, but it's not something that you can force," Pettine said. "If it ever gets to the point whether we’re potentially up big, down big, or if there's a situation that calls for him to go in, we'll get an opportunity to see him. Advice: Mathews once again didn't practice Wednesday. He's been out since spraining his MCL on September 14. Advice: Clay Harbor has posted a couple solid stat lines as Blake Bortles' security blanket in Lewis' absence. Harbor isn't much of a blocker, while Lewis is a stud in-line tight end. The Bucs have just one win on the season and every incentive to start playing their youngsters. Sims was the 69th overall pick in May's draft. According to the New York Daily News, "all signs" point to the Jets starting Michael Vick in Week 9 at Kansas City.

Advice: Per beat reporter Manish Mehta, Vick will start "barring an 11th-hour power play" by GM John Idzik and/or owner Woody Johnson. It'll be a great opportunity for fantasy owners to stream the Chiefs' defense. The game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, and Vick has become more turnover prone than ever late in his career. He came off the bench in Sunday's loss to Buffalo and took four sacks, threw an interception, and lost two fumbles. Now this will devolve back into the value-crushing committee it's been for the last few years, with both backs rotating and losing goal-line chances to Cam Newton. • Vick to start unless Rex pressured by GM?
The New York Daily News says the feeling inside the Jets is that Michael Vick will start Week 9 unless Rex Ryan is pressured into starting Geno Smith.

Advice: The pressure would come from GM John Idzik, who made Smith the No. 39 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He's probably not willing to throw in the towel yet, especially in favor of a 34-year-old quarterback when your team is 1-7. But Rex risks losing the locker room -- and his job -- if he continues to trot out error-repeating Geno. We suspect Vick and his still-dazzling legs will be under center against the Chiefs in Week 9. The 25-year-old back was inherited by this Lovie Smith regime, and has been among the league's worst running backs over the last two seasons. Advice: The Jets benched Geno Smith after he threw three straight interceptions in the first quarter. Vick led to the offense to 17 points on five drives before getting shut down in the second half. The Bills defense dominated at every level against the Jets. Advice: Forsett did his part by ripping off chain-moving runs in Baltimore's feature back role, but was vultured twice on red-zone carries by emerging rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro. Forsett is an every-week RB2/flex in fantasy leagues, but falls well short of RB1 status because he is not a good bet for weekly touchdowns. He was getting vultured by Bernard Pierce even before Taliaferro came on. Forsett does get a tasty Week 9 matchup against a Pittsburgh defense that struggles with zone-running games like Baltimore's. Hoyer has been mostly solid managing Kyle Shanahan's offense prior to last week, but his leash on the starting job is now in question. • Charles Sims (ankle) cleared for practice
Bucs RB Charles Sims (ankle) is practicing Wednesday.

Advice: Barring any setbacks, Sims could return in Week 9. He's a candidate for the Bucs' third-down role immediately and could eat into the workload of Doug Martin before too long. Martin, inherited by the Lovie Smith regime, hasn't played good football since 2012. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Mathews (MCL) still not practicing
Ryan Mathews (MCL) remained out of Chargers practice Tuesday.

Advice: Mathews can be safely ruled out for Week 8, and isn't looking promising for Week 9, either. The Bolts will continue to roll with Branden Oliver as their bell-cow back in the interim. Rotoworld.com

  • Lewis expected to practice Oct. 28
Marcedes Lewis (ankle) is expected to resume practicing Oct. 28.

Advice: Lewis is on short-term IR and eligible to return Week 12. It appears he's on that path. Athletic Clay Harbor will hold solid TE2 value until then. Rotoworld.com

  • It's not Johnny Football time quite yet
Coach Mike Pettine said Brian Hoyer is "still firmly our starter."

Advice: Hoyer laid an egg in a loss to the previously winless Jaguars in Week 7, looking uncomfortable in the pocket and displaying concerning inaccuracy. But he earned enough leash early in the year to get another start, this time against the 0-6 Raiders. If Hoyer loses that game, the calls for Johnny Manziel will become deafening. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Mathews held out of practice
Had the Chargers held a practice on Monday, Ryan Mathews (MCL) would not have participated.

Advice: Mathews isn't going to play on Thursday night, and his status is unclear for Week 9 as well. Branden Oliver will remain the feature back against Denver. Rotoworld.com

  • DeAngelo Williams 'might' practice Wednesday
DeAngelo Williams (ankle) "might" practice on Wednesday.

Advice: Coach Ron Rivera made the disclosure at Monday's presser. Owners shouldn't hold their breath. D-Will won't be returning to any fantasy value, but the Panthers badly need him behind fellow injury-prone veteran Jonathan Stewart. Chris Ogbonnaya, Fozzy Whittaker and Darrin Reaves are not NFL-caliber rushers. Rotoworld.com
