  • Saints rule out Khiry Robinson, Pierre Thomas
Khiry Robinson (forearm) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Packers.

Advice: Robinson referred to his injury as "a little boo-boo" earlier in the week, but the Saints' medical staff clearly disagrees. As Pierre Thomas has also been ruled out, New Orleans' backfield will be dominated by Mark Ingram and Travaris Cadet versus Green Bay's No. 31 run defense. The stars have aligned for a bounce-back game for Ingram after last week's clunker against Detroit. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Sims to play big stretch-run role?
ESPN's Dan Graziano suggested on NFL Insiders Friday that rookie Charles Sims could play a big role down the stretch.

Advice: Eligible to return from I.R./recall in Week 9, Sims has resumed practicing after fracturing his ankle in August. "He may get a shot to get some serious carries in the second half (of the season)," were Graziano's words. Sims is worth stashing in 12- and 14-team leagues. Doug Martin has been ineffective for a sustained stretch, while Bobby Rainey has been prone to fumbles. Rotoworld.com

  • Ronnie Hillman to remain Broncos starting RB?
The Denver Post believes the Broncos will be "hard pressed" to turn back to Montee Ball (groin) as their lead running back when healthy.

Advice: We don't think it's likely at all. Ronnie Hillman has given Denver's offense an entirely new dimension with big-play ability on outside runs, whereas Ball struggled mightily when he was asked to move laterally. Ball was effective in a change-of-pace role behind Knowshon Moreno down the stretch last season. That may be his role upon return. Although he is being pulled on goal-line runs, Hillman has a chance to provide borderline RB1 value the rest of the way. Rotoworld.com

Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer said all of his running backs will "have roles for us," and he'll continue to treat it as a week-to-week situation.

Advice: "I think that’s kind of good for us," Schottenheimer said. "For a defense not to know who they’ve got to prepare for. To know that at any moment it might be a different guy out there." Schottenheimer isn't fooling anyone. Anybody with working eyeballs can see Tre Mason is the Rams' most talented runner. If the Rams want to put the ball in Zac Stacy or Benny Cunningham's hands, they're playing to the defense's advantage. • Branden Oliver totals 63 yards versus Broncos
Branden Oliver rushed 13 times for 36 yards in San Diego's Week 8 loss to the Broncos, adding seven catches for an additional 27 yards.

Advice: Oliver was lucky to escape with the yards that he did, as he simply got gobbled up by the Broncos' athletic front seven. Oliver didn't have a prayer on over half his carries, and was sitting on -3 yards through his first 12 touches. The Broncos were simply getting too much penetration. Oliver's yardage total would have been even less impressive if not for a meaningless 23-yard scamper on the game's final play. • Hillman has bad TD luck, but totals 138 yards
Ronnie Hillman rushed 20 times for 109 yards in the Broncos' Week 8 win over the Chargers, catching 3-of-4 targets for an additional 29 yards.

Advice: The 138 yards from scrimmage were Hillman's most in his three games as starter, but it's his amazingly-bad touchdown luck that will have owners talking on Friday. Hillman had five potential scores wiped away by happenstance and shenanigans. In no particular order, Hillman: Lost a touchdown by stepping out of bounds, had a score wiped out by holding, lost a shot at a goal-line carry thanks to a botched snap and watched Juwan Thompson vulture not one, but two TDs. The good news, if you want to look at it that way, is that Hillman was in position for so many touchdowns, and continues to run circles around the work Montee Ball did before going down with a groin injury. Ball will have a role when he returns, but it's getting harder to believe it won't be as Hillman's caddie. Rotoworld.com

Benny Cunningham was added to the Rams' injury report on Thursday, getting in a limited session with a knee issue.

Advice: It suggests Cunningham tweaked something in Thursday's practice, though it's unclear if that's the case. The Rams are one of the most lightly-covered teams in the league, so we might not gain clarity until Friday's injury report. A "DNP" on Friday would spell doom for Cunningham's Week 8 chances, while another "limited" to go along with a "questionable" tag would be inconclusive. Raiders interim coach Tony Sparano believes the team needs to get Maurice Jones-Drew more carries.

Advice: We'd argue just the opposite, as a washed-up MJD has averaged a pathetic 2.66 yards on his 18 carries this season. Granted, that's an extremely small sample size, but there's simply no juice left in Jones-Drew's legs. Darren McFadden is the Raiders' best back, while Latavius Murray and FB Marcel Reece are both more deserving of bigger workloads than MJD. However, his role is more uncertain than ever after Denard Robinson put a 22-127-1 line on the Browns last week. "I think we'll continue to mix and match a little bit," said OC Jedd Fisch. "I don't know exactly how that will all play out yet." We'd expect Robinson to start, but he's going to find the sledding very tough against an excellent Dolphins front. CSN Philly reports Darren Sproles (knee) "appears likely" to play Week 8 against the Cardinals.

Advice: After initially fearing a torn ACL, Sproles says he "felt pretty good" at Tuesday's practice. An MRI last week revealed no structural damage and just a mildly sprained MCL. Arizona is yielding the second-fewest PPR points to opposing running backs. At less than 100 percent and seeing just 5.5 touches per game over the past four, there will be better options than Sproles for your FLEX spot. Rotoworld.com

According to NFL Network, Pierre Thomas (shoulder) will miss 2-3 weeks.

Advice: Thomas, currently third on the Saints in both catches and rush attempts, sustained the injury during Sunday's narrow loss at Detroit. The earliest he'll return is likely Week 10, as the Saints play on Thursday night in Week 9. It opens up a nice window for Khiry Robinson to get a bump in snaps and Travaris Cadet to get on the PPR radar. • Gruden: Alfred Morris missing some cuts
Speaking Monday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Alfred Morris "missed some cuts" in Sunday's win over the Titans, and isn't working "in concert" with the offensive line.

Advice: Morris is averaging just 3.82 yards per carry, and has yet to have a 100-yard day on the ground this season. He's averaging 63 weekly yards. Although the absence of Robert Griffin III (ankle) has been an obvious hindrance for the Redskins' ground attack, it doesn't fully explain Morris losing nearly an entire yard off his YPC. Morris is just a mid-range to low-end RB2, and could eventually start losing more touches to Roy Helu. Rotoworld.com

Tre Mason led Rams running backs by playing on 27-of-51 snaps in Sunday's win over the Seahawks.

Advice: Benny Cunningham played 19 snaps and Zac Stacy got one. It's clear that Mason has surged to the front of the pile here as the most talented natural runner and is a must-add, but there are major concerns -- most notably in the form of game flow. Mason is a zero in the pass game, which we know is a red flag when a team gets behind. See Andre Williams, Alfred Morris and even Marshawn Lynch for evidence of that. Coach told me there's no reason to back out there," he said. Before leaving, Richardson looked as impressive as he has in two years, totaling 118 yards on 18 touches. Advice: It was another impressive effort from the Sproles-ian rookie, who sustained drives and extended runs with impressive leg drive and unreal balance. Oliver would have gotten more work had the Chiefs not squeezed the life out of the ball, out-possessing San Diego 39 minutes to 21. Advice: It was an extremely disappointing day against a soft run defense, though it's possible Morris' first-quarter ankle tweak played a part. Morris briefly departed before returning to finish out the game. Things could have been even worse, but Morris had a fumble overturned on review. James Starks rushed seven times for 36 yards and a touchdown in Green Bay's Week 7 rout of the Panthers, but left early with a tweaked ankle.

He remained on the sideline in his helmet, which is almost always an indication a player could check back in. Starks continued to rotate with Eddie Lacy before going down, getting three series to himself. Starks cut back on his 13-yard score in the first quarter, displaying excellent vision. Advice: Looking like a legitimate running back, the converted Michigan quarterback mixed chain-moving gains with explosive runs on the perimeter. He handled the 22 touches compared to Storm Johnson's six, and Jordan Todman's one. "Shoelace" should remain Jacksonville's lead back until further notice, even when Toby Gerhart (foot) returns. Advice: After shining last Monday night on nine snaps, Mason was handed the reins against Seattle, out-touching Benny Cunningham 18-7, while Zac Stacy rode the bench, playing one snap and not registering a touch. It sure looks like a changing of the guard. After picking up 24 yards on his first NFL carry last week, Mason ripped off a 28-yarder Sunday. They started the game with eight straight 3-and-outs, posted 27 total yards in the first half and Kevin Huber finished with 11 punts. There was just no shot for Bernard, who took two big hits on short passes but didn't suffer any serious injuries, to get anything going. Getting A.J. It's unclear if he has a serious pull or the trainers are just playing it safe with the game in hand. Before the injury, Richardson actually looked really spry, repeatedly using the R1 button to juke away from defenders and showing good skills in the pass game. Advice: Despite officially being listed as "doubtful" for the second straight week, he will not play against the Redskins. Bishop Sankey will continue to handle lead back work with Dexter McCluster and Leon Washington mixing in. Rotoworld.com

  • Toby Gerhart (foot) not practicing again Fri.
Toby Gerhart (foot) remained sidelined at Friday's practice and will not play in Week 7.

Advice: He missed every practice this week and appears extremely doubtful to suit up against the Browns. Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson will handle the Week 7 load, but neither is more than a weak RB3 option even in the tasty matchup with the Browns missing DLs Phil Taylor, Desmond Bryant, and Armonty Bryant. • Chris Johnson totals 80 yards in Foxboro
Chris Johnson rushed 13 times for 61 yards in New York's Week 7 loss to the Patriots, adding two catches for an additional 19 yards.

Advice: Both the touches and yards were Johnson's most since Week 1. It was a game-plan specific outcome, as the Jets were committed to running the ball down New England's throat. CJ?K still got-touched 25-15 by Chris Ivory, and out-gained 125-80. Johnson will remain a middling FLEX play for Week 8, as the Jets will be doing battle with the Bills' elite run defense. • Shane Vereen catches two touchdowns vs. Jets
Operating as the Patriots' clear lead back, Shane Vereen rushed 12 times for 47 yards in New England's Week 7 win over the Jets, adding five catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns.

Advice: Vereen's 17 touches were 14 more than Jonas Gray and Brandon Bolden combined. He notched a four-yard rush on New England's first play from scrimmage, and got free for a 49-yard touchdown reception just three plays later. Vereen streaked down the sideline, schooling Antonio Allen to get himself wide open. Vereen's second score was a three-yard grab where he ran circles around Jets LB Demario Davis in the end zone. Most encouragingly, it was Vereen, and not New England's "big back" duo, who was called on to help kill the clock in the fourth quarter. As we've learned the hard way from coach Bill Belichick, there's no way to count on that kind of usage going forward, but Vereen will be a top 15-16 option for Week 8 when the Pats host the Bears. • Report: Greene (hamstring) out for Week 7
ESPN's Adam Caplan reports Shonn Greene (hamstring) will miss Week 7.

Advice: This became self-evident after Greene missed his second-consecutive practice on Thursday. Bishop Sankey will get the start against the Redskins, and serve as a solid FLEX option. Rotoworld.com

  • Pierre Thomas (illness) misses practice
Pierre Thomas (illness) missed Thursday's practice.

Advice: It's not a concern for Thomas' Week 7 status. He'll almost certainly be listed as "probable" on Friday's injury report. He'll be good to go as a FLEX option against the Lions. Rotoworld.com

Reggie Bush (ankle) practiced for the second straight day Thursday.

Advice: Bush remained "limited," but is fully on track to return for Sunday's game against the Saints. Bush's Friday status will be key, but owners can pencil him in as their FLEX option. Rotoworld.com

Broncos RB Juwan Thompson (knee) returned to practice on Thursday.

Advice: It's the same pattern the Broncos followed last week. Thompson will be good to go as Ronnie Hillman's backup against the 49ers. Rotoworld.com

  • Payton won't say how carries will shake out
When asked how running carries will be distributed Sunday, coach Sean Payton said, "we will kind of see how we handle that."

Advice: Mark Ingram's return from a broken hand is obviously awful news for Khiry Robinson. Ingram was running at an elite level before his injury and it's not like he's coming off a knee or ankle issue. We expect him to hit the ground running as the primary big back, leaving Robinson for something like 6-8 touches against the Lions. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Mathews (MCL) still not cleared to run
Ryan Mathews (MCL) still hasn't been cleared to resume running.

Advice: Exactly one month removed from his MCL sprain, Mathews won't play in Week 7 and doesn't sound like a lock for Week 8, either. The Chargers' bye isn't until Week 10. "When they think it's time for me to start running, then it's time to start running," Mathews said, referring to team doctors. "It's all in their hands." San Diego's Week 8 game against Denver is on a Thursday night, meaning the turnaround will be quick following Sunday's Week 7 game, reducing the chances of a Mathews return. The Chargers play the Dolphins in Week 9. Currently 5-1, if San Diego is still racking up wins at that point, it's conceivable Mathews could be held out through the Week 10 open date. Branden Oliver appears highly likely to be the Bolts' feature back for at least two more games, and quite possibly three. Rotoworld.com

  • Juwan Thompson (knee) doesn't practice
Juwan Thompson (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Advice: Thompson was the No. 2 back behind Ronnie Hillman on Sunday, rushing for 38 yards on eight carries. He was held out last Wednesday with his knee issue. The Broncos are likely just giving him a maintenance day. Rotoworld.com

  • Toby Gerhart (foot) not practicing Wednesday
Toby Gerhart (foot) is not practicing Wednesday.

Advice: Gerhart suggests he still may play Week 7 against the Browns. Don't look for the Jaguars to push Gerhart out there at less than 100 percent when he's merely a marginal talent when fully healthy. It could be the Storm Johnson show again versus Cleveland. Neither back would be more than an RB3. Rotoworld.com

  • Cunningham scores one-yard TD in MNF loss
Benny Cunningham rushed for 21 yards and one touchdown on seven carries in the Rams' Week 6 loss to the 49ers.

Advice: Cunningham was the second back in the game behind Zac Stacy, as usual, and he got the lone goal-line carry for the Rams and punched it in from one yard away to kick off the game's scoring. Carries were split 8-7-5 to Stacy, Cunningham, and rookie Tre Mason, respectively. This could turn into a full-blown committee. It was clear watching Monday's game that Mason has the most talent.
