  • Bears part ways with veteran TE Dante Rosario
    Bears released TE Dante Rosario.

Advice: The nine-year veteran spent the past two years in the Windy City, catching 16 passes last season. He'll get calls whenever someone needs a blocker. 41 minutes ago

  • Brandon Bostick works out for Jets
Free agent TE Brandon Bostick worked out for the Jets.

Advice: Bostick didn't make it past first-round cuts with Minnesota, catching just one pass in three preseason games. The Jets need tight end depth with Jace Amaro (shoulder surgery) out for the year. Bostick could give OC Chan Gailey an H-back behind Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis. Today, 2:22 pm

  • Jaguars waive TE Koyack
    Jaguars waived TE Ben Koyack.

Advice: A seventh-round pick out of Notre Dame, Koyack made no noise during his roughly-four months on the roster. He might be a practice squad candidate. Today, 2:18 pm

  • Jacob Tamme exits with back injury
Jacob Tamme exited the Falcons' fourth preseason game with a back injury.

Advice: Tamme took a big hit to his lower back on a first-quarter catch. He stayed down of the field for a little bit, but ended up walking off the field. He is officially questionable to return, but he is almost certainly out for the game. Tamme has not done much in training camp, and getting playing time is not a great sign for his position on the depth chart. Yesterday, 4:29 pm

  • Zach Ertz (groin) unsure of Week 1 status
Zach Ertz (groin surgery) remains unsure of his Week 1 status.

Advice: Ertz said he's feeling better every day, but that his status for the opener could come down to a game-time decision. It's a massive disappointment for a player who has breakout potential this season. Ertz was already going to have trouble weaning Chip Kelly off of Brent Celek, but now Celek could establish a stranglehold on starting duties. Ertz is worth keeping around as an upside bench option, but his TE1 candidacy is on thin ice. Yesterday, 2:52 pm

  • 'Good chance' Celek leads tight ends in snaps
The Philadelphia Daily News said there is a "good chance" Brent Celek leads the Eagles' tight ends in snaps this year.

Advice: Just as he has every year since 2009. Chip Kelly reportedly loves Celek, and he offers the Eagles more in the running game than Zach Ertz. Recovering from groin surgery, Ertz may not even suit up early in the season, and when he finally gets back on the field it will again be in a backup role to Celek. Ertz is nothing more than a TE2 flier at this point. Yesterday, 8:21 am

  • 'Probably one spot' for Fauria and Tim Wright
The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett said TEs Joseph Fauria and Tim Wright are competing for "probably only one spot."

Advice: Wright would seem to have the edge as the Lions traded for him just three days ago, but all Wright cost was a kicker who was unlikely to make the final roster anyway. Wright has floundered in both New England and Tampa Bay following a breakout rookie campaign, and Fauria offers the Lions a red-zone threat they are missing at the back end of their receiver corps. This competition could go down the wire, and both tight ends may end up on the final roster. Yesterday, 5:49 am

  • Maxx Williams has no shot to start Week 1
ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley said rookie TE Maxx Williams has no chance to start Week 1.

Advice: He should get some snaps, but he is well behind Crockett Gillmore on the depth chart. Rookie tight ends always struggle to make a fantasy impact, especially rookie tight ends who are on the bench. Williams could grow into a role as the season wears on, but for now he is not useful in fantasy. Yesterday, 5:23 am

  • Nick O'Leary doesn't look like he belongs
WKBW Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes sixth-round TE Nick O'Leary "would likely have been released by now" if he wasn't a draft pick.

Advice: Per Buscaglia, O'Leary "could be confused with any of the undrafted free agents on the roster" at Bills camp. He's currently behind Charles Clay, MarQuies Gray, Matthew Mulligan, and Chris Gragg on the depth chart. Small, short armed, and slow, O'Leary might not even make it onto Buffalo's practice squad. • Gresham ruled out for preseason finale
Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) won’t play in Thursday’s preseason finale.

Advice: Gresham will miss the entire preseason recovering from back surgery and a hamstring issue. With Troy Niklas also sidelined, Darren Fells is locked in as Arizona’s Week 1 starter. Wednesday, 4:25 pm

  • Dolphins coach high on TE Dion Sims
Coach Joe Philbin views Dion Sims as a starting-caliber tight end.

Advice: "He can do a lot of different jobs; is coming along nicely," Philbin said. Jordan Cameron remains the No. 1 tight end, but could lose work to Sims on run downs. Coming off his disappointing 2014, Cameron has done nothing this preseason, catching two passes for six yards. Wednesday, 1:32 pm

  • NFLPA files grievance on Thompson's behalf
The NFLPA has filed a grievance on behalf of free agent TE Taylor Thompson.

Advice: Thompson was cut by the Titans back in June, but he claimed he was hurt and the Titans failed to release him with an injury settlement, as they believed he was healthy. Thompson now needs knee surgery, and the NFLPA is backing him. Thompson suspected back in June that he needed microfracture knee surgery. Wednesday, 12:28 pm

  • Bears acquire rookie TE Lee from Texans
Bears acquired TE Khari Lee from the Texans in exchange for a 2017 sixth-round pick.

Advice: Lee was an All-American at D-2 Bowie State and signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent. He didn't impress at his Pro Day, however, displaying subpar athleticism with a 5.05 forty and 9-foot-7 broad jump. Lee caught 5-of-6 preseason targets for 71 scoreless yards. The Bears like him as an inline blocker. Wednesday, 8:44 am

  • Chiefs TE Kelce has 'slightly' sprained ankle
Travis Kelce dropped out of Monday's practice with a "slight" ankle sprain.

Advice: Kelce missed Tuesday's session. We don't usually post such minor injury situations on Rotoworld, but have seen people freaking out about Kelce on Twitter. Coach Andy Reid stated after Tuesday's practice that Kelce has a "slightly" sprained ankle, and it is not of the high variety. Reid added that Kelce would be able to play if the Chiefs had a regular season game this week. Tuesday, 2:12 pm

  • Maxx Williams will be ready for Week 1
Ravens TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) will be ready for Week 1.

Advice: Williams missed last weekend's regular season dress rehearsal. "He's practicing, so he should be there for Denver," coach John Harbaugh said. "We just want to protect him from the bumps." Williams has had an unimpressive summer, but his potential role puts him on the TE2 radar. Tuesday, 1:37 pm

  • Cowboys waive seven players
Cowboys waived TE Brandon Barden, WR David Porter, WR Antwan Goodley, LB Jonathan Brown, DE Kenneth Boatright, OT R.J Dill and RB Michael Hill.

Advice: Boatright, Dill and Hill were waived/injured, and will revert to injured reserve once they clear waivers. Barden's lone three regular season appearances came in 2012. Tuesday, 12:28 pm

  • Vikings cut Brandon Bostick
    Vikings released TE Brandon Bostick.

Advice: The Vikings are going with Kyle Rudolph, MyCole Pruitt, and Chase Dixon instead. Bostick was claimed off waivers from the division-rival Packers all the way back in February. He failed to make it even to final cuts in Minnesota. Sunday, 3:47 pm

  • Maxx Williams will not play Saturday
Ravens rookie TE Maxx Williams will not play in the team's third preseason game.

Advice: Williams has been practicing all week in a non-contact jersey with an undisclosed injury. Sitting out hurts Williams' chances of opening as a consistent contributor, but he could grow into a big role as the season progresses. Saturday, 4:01 pm

  • Travis Kelce making big plays in preseason
Travis Kelce secured three balls for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' third preseason game.

Advice: "Zeus" found the end zone from eight yards out on a tough throw by Alex Smith, who was on his game in a major way tonight against a talent-deficient Titans defense. An absolute bully after the catch, Kelce now has 63 yards on just four catches over Kansas City's last two preseason games. Kelce has a mediocre floor, but offers upside to finish as this year's No. 3 fantasy tight end. Friday, 7:07 pm

  • Eagles TE Ertz's Week 1 status up in the air
Eagles OC Pat Shurmur declined to say if TE Zach Ertz (groin surgery) will be ready for Week 1.

Advice: "I don't know," Shurmur said when asked if the opener was still a realistic target. "I'm assuming so. Behind the scenes he's taking care of his obligations. It'll be a matter of him getting back out there practicing." Ertz hasn’t practiced since August 14. He has 19 days to get cleared, putting his status in doubt. Brent Celek projects to open the season as the Eagles starting tight end. Wednesday, 3:48 pm

  • Nick O'Leary isn't guaranteed roster spot
Bills coach Rex Ryan admits sixth-round TE Nick O'Leary isn't guaranteed a roster spot.

Advice: O'Leary was a star catching passes from Jameis Winston in college, but is no higher than No. 4 on the depth chart. O'Leary has severe athletic limitations, and isn't much of a run blocker. He could be a better fit for the practice squad than 53-man roster. Tuesday, 3:00 pm
